The Royal Mark-Chapter 279: Close to Nothing
"I-I should try this right away," Milda stammered as she sniffed and wiped her tears.
"It’s ok, Milda, you can take your time. There’s no need to hurry. It can wait until Mother’s burial is done," Andrius expressed.
"Brother, please understand, that this isn’t just for my benefit. Our mother intended this as a gift for you too. Don’t you desire for Laureen’s swift recovery? Furthermore, the longer Laureen and Princess Neia remain in this state, the greater the risk to their lives," Milda responded firmly.
"Are you sure you want to do this now?" Andrius asked in hesitation.
Of course, he wanted Laureen to be healed but he is also worried about his sister. Yes, she knows magic, but it is something that she had given up a long time ago for her power is not that strong no matter how hard she trained before. She is just simply not gifted with it.
"I am sure," Milda answered and then asked Elsa, "But correct me if I am wrong. Laureen’s case is not as bad as Neia’s right? So would it be better if I try it on Laureen first? I am just not sure if this will work with me casting it."
"You are right. The spell that was cast on Laureen is not as strong as the one cast on Neia. You made the right decision as well to try it on Laureen first to see if it will work since it is much easier to heal her," Elsa confirmed.
"Alright, I need your help then in gathering the things that I need to perform this spell."
"Let me see," Valeria interjected, "Perhaps my mother kept some of it in her alchemy room."
Milda handed the book to Valeria without hesitation and waited patiently.
"I think I have most of it. I will ask Rylie and Arla to find the rest. You can both go to Laureen and practice the spell. I’ll be there as soon as I can," Valeria uttered.
Afterward, she fetched a pen and paper, transcribing the list twice before handing the book back to Milda and making her way to the alchemy room.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group went to the guest room where Laureen and her mother Laura were staying. Both mother and daughter were taken aback by the unexpected visit from the royal family.
"Is there something wrong Your Majesty?" Laura asked the King.
"Nothing is wrong, we came here because we have good news. My daughter Milda might be able to heal your daughter. It’s not guaranteed though. It’s the first time that she will be doing this," King Allister proudly announced.
Laura and Laureen’s eyes welled up. It was indeed a pleasant surprise, one that they thought they would never hear.
"Thank you, Your Majesty! Your Highness! We are very grateful for all your help!" Laura happily bowed at King Allister and Princess Milda repeatedly.
"Don’t get your hopes up yet, please. I don’t want you to be disappointed. As my father said, this is the first time I’ll be doing this. I am not like my sister, Hera. My magic is very weak, close to nothing. I am not sure if I can successfully do it," Milda reminded Laura.
"It’s better than nothing, Princess Milda. If it didn’t work we will still be happy that you tried to help us when it is not your responsibility," Laureen voiced out.
"It is quite my responsibility. I don’t want to see my brother sulking anymore, it is annoying, and–"
*EHEM* *EHEM*
Andrius cleared his throat as he elbowed Milda on her side making her stop spewing her brother’s secret.
"Anyway, Elsa could you teach me how to do it?" Milda asked which made Elsa glad.
Her point of view on Milda is slowly changing, her actions show that there’s nothing about her that she should be wary of. She can see that her aunt is trying her best to change for the better. What she must do now is support her and guide her instead of constantly doubting her every action.
"I’ll be happy to..."
The two women immediately started going through the spell that Irina wrote in the book. It was a detailed one and they were impressed at how she was able to get it from the evil witch queen without getting caught and binding it to her blood when her magic was not that strong.
The materials that they needed for the spell were not hard to find as well. Valeria, Rylie, and Arla arrived almost at the same time, bringing what Milda needed.
"According to my Mother’s notes, you should sit on top of the pine tree leaves before I place the other things around you," Milda instructed Laureen.
Elsa, Valeria, Rylie, and Arla helped Milda in placing various materials like precious stones, animal furs, flowers, and different kinds of tree barks around Laureen as Milda prepared the marble bowl that she’s going to use in mixing the other ingredients for the potion that Laureen needs to drink as she cast the spell.
And when everything was set, Milda nervously took Andrius’ dagger once more. The spell requires her blood to be added to the potion that Laureen will take.
Andrius swiftly grabbed Milda’s arm seeing how scared his sister was. "You can do this. We are all here in case anything happens, we got you. Understood?"
Milda gave out a thin smile before nodding.
"I will start..." Milda walked in front of Laureen and took a deep breath before she started casting.
"Aqua medendi..." she said and poured the water from the nearby spring into the marble bowl.
"Dea salutis, ofero tibi, sanguis meus et sanguis progenitorum meorum, exaudi me et da sanitatem."
Milda then cuts her palm using Andrius’ dagger since she needs enough blood for Laureen to drink.
"Aqua medendi. Dea salutis, ofero tibi, sanguis meus et sanguis progenitorum meorum, exaudi me et da sanitatem!" She repeated the spell several times until the circle that she drew around Laureen lit up almost blinding everyone.
It was the sign Laureen had been waiting for, as directed earlier. Without hesitation, she grabbed the marble bowl and drank its contents down to the last drop.
As soon as Laureen finished consuming the contents of the bowl, the bright light vanished. Before they could open their eyes again, they heard a loud thud on the floor.
Laura gasped loudly as soon as she saw her daughter.
"Laureen!!!" Andrius’ voice was the only sound heard in the room as he briskly jumped from his spot to go to Laureen while everyone stood frozen in front of her.
