Chapter 278: The Other Side of Irina

"You would really do that?" Milda said as she wiped her tears. She doesn’t know if she will be happy that her father, the King, allowed her mother to have a royal burial or be worried that the people might not like it.

Queen Irina was never popular with the citizens of Zemaria, so when she was charged with treason, she became the most hated person in the kingdom.

"F-Father, b-brothers, I think we should think about this. Mother is hated by our people and the last thing that I want is for them to desecrate and disrespect her at her funeral. I-I think it is best to make her funeral private. Let’s make it just us, our relatives, and close friends.

I don’t think I would be able to take another humiliation against our mother. I am already trying my best to keep everything together and it is already too much!" Milda uttered with a quivering voice.

Elsa walked to her aunt to comfort her and Milda instantly broke down once more the moment Elsa offered her shoulder for her to cry on.

"Father, I think, Milda is right. What do you think, Drake?" Andrius said.

"I agree with Milda. I don’t want to see our mother getting scorned by the people when she no longer can defend herself. I respect that everyone has their own opinion but they don’t know her like we do.

I would also want her to be buried as soon as possible. I don’t want people pitying her. Let’s just give our relatives and close friends a day to see her and a day for us to spend one last moment. Would that be possible," Drake almost pleaded.

"Yes, of course, my son. I can do that for you. After Irina’s burial, I want to pass the crown to Andrius. I know it is not the perfect time for that since your mother just passed away. Nonetheless, I am sure Irina would be very happy to see her son coronated as King of Zemaria since that is one of her dreams," King Allister declared.

"I agree, Father. Mother would be happy wherever she is if Andrius would become the King of Zemaria. Do you want this as well, Drake?" Milda mentioned.

"Of course, I do. It will also let Father rest from his duties and finally enjoy life," Drake stated.

The family started planning Irina’s funeral and King Allister couldn’t be happier at how his children agreed with one another. Their planning went smoothly and the King of Zemaria promised his children that their mother would have a majestic burial that she would want.

"That’s settled then," King Allister announced. "Andrius please send out the announcement to our relatives and close friends. Drake, you are in charge of the preparation of the great hall. And you, Milda, you will have the honor of preparing your mother for her funeral.

Please spend as much as you need for her. I will call the royal couturier and her head lady-in-waiting to cater to your needs. Please do not hesitate. I want to give her the best that a queen deserves this one last time."

"Thank you, Father. We appreciate it," Milda uttered before bowing to the King.

"Go on everyone, I’ll see you all tonight at dinner," the King said.

"Hold on," Andrius interjected. He then took out the small book that Irina gave him before she died.

"Milda, our mother wanted you to have this. It is blank, but she said it is bound to you and her by blood, so I guess it’s only you and Mother who can read the content of it," Andrius shared before handing the book over to Milda. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Milda curiously took the small book and opened it. "I-I don’t see anything too."

"Perhaps it’s one of those magic where the paper will only show the writings when burned?" Drake suggested.

So Milda quickly put the opened book over a candle to see if that was the case. "No, it doesn’t work."

"Perhaps you need to use your magic then," King Allister said.

"B-But, Mother’s magic and mine are weak, I don’t think that’s the key."

"There’s nothing wrong in trying, who knows maybe it will work. There must be something important there for her to conceal the content of it," the King convinced.

"Alright, let me try." Milda took a golden cup with water and concentrated hard to use her water magic on the book.

After a few tries, Milda sighed, "It’s not working too..."

"Try your blood, dear. Since your mother told Andrius that it’s bound to both of you by blood, perhaps, she literally means real blood and not your relation," Valeria proposed and Milda nodded.

Andrius took his dagger and poured wine on it before giving it to Milda. "Here sister, use this. This is sharper than the table knife, you will not feel much pain."

Milda took it and made a small cut on her index finger, just enough to make the blood drip to the front cover of the book.

Milda’s eyes slowly widened and a smile was formed on her face. The book emitted a pink faint light around it and when it disappeared, the princess hastily turned the cover and saw the words slowly appearing on the pages.

"It worked! Look!" Milda placed the book on the table for everyone to see.

They were shocked by what they saw on the first page. They could not believe that Irina would write something like that and willingly give it to Milda.

Andrius, Milda, and Drake’s tears started falling once more. Even King Allister and Valeria couldn’t help but shed tears at Irina’s words in the book.

This is the side of the former Queen of Zemaria that they haven’t seen before. The side of her that Drake had been longing for ever since he was young. The side of her that only Milda saw. Everyone in that room was filled with mixed emotions. Especially Andrius and Elsa for they finally found the solution that they are looking for.
