Chapter 173: My Chosen Heir

A week after Chris woke up in Arcanis...

"Father... Mother..." Elandir greeted and bowed to King Tyrion and Queen Ydril who were currently seated in the throne room. "I have news... Prince Andrius is two days away from the capital. They are looking for the ship that sank and asked permission to make a stop here not only to retrieve their second princess but also to restock and talk to you personally and I have approved it.

But it is up to you if we will allow them to dock in our port or we can meet them halfway to bring the princess and give what they are requesting." Elandir added.

"It’s okay Elandir. The Crown Prince of Zemaria can enter our land. It is time to open our doors and help solve the problem that we will all soon face in Vectus if the kingdoms in the south will not be stopped," King Tyrion said.

Elandir nodded and cleared his throat, "I have another piece of news. Not related to Zemaria, and I want to tell you privately... It’s about me..."

"It sounds serious... Alright. Everyone out," the king ordered and all servants, guards, and members of the Elven Council went out of the throne room immediately.

"It’s about the Moonstone Mithril Staff. I know that you don’t trust me but just for this once please believe me. If there’s something that you can trust about me, it is my loyalty to Christopher and that extends to his wife. What I am about to tell you is something that you cannot say to anyone, even to your most trusted person. Only the three of us here in this room know about this. Do you trust me, father?" Elandir stated.

King Tyrion stayed quiet and stared at Elandir. It made Queen Ydril impatient and hit the king with her handheld fan on the head very hard making it echo across the room surprising Elandir.

"Ouch!" King Tyrion exclaimed as he rubbed his head.

"Are you just going to stare at our son? Do not give me the reason that you are thinking about it for there’s nothing to think about and you know it. Goodness gracious Tyrion, just until when are you going to let your pride rule that head and heart of yours.

Without the staff in our possession, we are all in danger! Dare to say no to our son and I will definitely leave you!" Queen Ydril yelled at the king while standing up and pointing her finger at him.

"I was not going to say no, why do you have to hit me so hard?" King Tyrion complained and pouted like a child at the queen, something that Elandir had never seen before.

"Then what’s taking you so long to say yes? Is saying a three-letter word so hard to say?" Queen Ydril nagged.

"Ok, ok. Yes, I do trust you, my son. Please tell us what it is, before your mother hits me again," King Tyrion urged.

Elandit chuckled but quickly fixed his expression back to a serious one. "I have a lead on it. It is just within the capital. And I am afraid that one or some of the members of your Elven Council conspired to take it away from us. According to Prince Andrius, he was informed by one of Princess Elsa’s mages that the witch queen was looking for something in their ship even after finding the amethyst necklace that they used to track the princess.

They don’t know what it is but they didn’t find anything. They said that Prince Christopher was denying having it but they suspect that he hid it and Princess Elsa took possession of it. The only important thing that the princess had with her was the staff, dagger, and wand we know that the witch queen would not be interested in the other two."

"I understand, and what kind of help do you need from me?" the king asked.

"I need you to come up with something that will make everyone be present in one place. It will be easier to catch the culprit that way," Elandir mentioned.

"Just how are you going to catch the mastermind in that way? They could just simply deny it and never tell you where the staff is."

"Leave that to me, father. You will see that I won’t waste your trust this time. Will you be able to do that tomorrow? Me and the lady could set the entrapment as early as tomorrow, we just need the members to be all present here."

The king nodded and Elandir bowed once more before leaving the throne with full determination.

King Tyrion quickly called the council’s adjutant to make his announcement.

"Your Majesty, you called for me?" the adjutant asked as soon as he entered the throne room.

"Tell the Elven Council that I will announce my retirement tomorrow and pass the throne to my chosen heir. And before I do that, I will restructure the current positions within the council and anyone who is not present will be automatically removed from their post," the king casually announced.

"Eh? Your Majesty?" the adjutant was not even sure if he had heard it right or if he was hallucinating.

"You heard me loud and clear. Do you want to be removed from your position as well?" King Tyrion threatened. He patted himself on the back mentally for his good acting.

Queen Ydril on the other hand sighed and shook her head.

The adjutant bowed and quickly left the room to inform all the members of the Elven Council about the king’s unexpected announcement. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"And why did you do that, my dear husband?" Queen Ydril sarcastically said.

"Didn’t our son just say to gather all the members of the council? This is the only way that I can think of to make everyone attend. I am not dumb to not know that some of them wish for my downfall and the same goes for our son.

I did what I did to Elandir not because I was pissed off at him. But because I believe that he will be far greater than I am. Greed and envy from others could destroy him before he even starts. So everything I did was to protect him until the moment that he no longer needed my protection. And today my dear wife... I believe that our son no longer needs me."

King Tyrion intertwined his hand with the queen’s and gave it a little squeeze while smiling at her proudly.
