THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 76: Rising power
Ryker’s POV
This power?
What kind of power is this?
Such enormous power.
Where could it have come from?
Kira keeps coming up with surprises every time we encounter new enemies. Sometimes it feels like she’s leveling up with every battle experience she goes through.
First, it was just the normal abilities of a supernatural being, then she started exhibiting magical powers, lifting things and conjuring things like the way she conjured up a full moon.
Mind blowing, right?
And then she upgraded during her fight with the entity back at her home in the pack. She became something of a light warrior, and that wasn’t all—she was able to invade our nightmares and pull us out, just like a dream walker would do.
It was fascinating and incredible that she could do so many things like that, and just when I thought we had seen it all, she upgrades again.
After our separation back at the cave, we finally got to meet up again.
We met Isabella, Marcel, and Clara, hale and hearty, though they seemed to be injured but nothing posed a threat to their lives.
At least that was something to be grateful for.
And then we found out that every one of us was trapped in a nightmare of ours, and we all got saved by Kira—again.
She never ceases to amaze us.
We needed to continue our journey, find the moonstone, and we couldn’t do that if we remained in the cave, neither could we do that if we decided to go through the cave to find a way out.
The cave was like a maze, and the most annoying part of it all is that we seemed to go round in circles a lot.
So we all agreed that Kira should blast the roof of the cave. At least since we came down from up there, we could go out from up there too.
But we hesitated because we weren’t sure what awaited us up there.
Those undead creatures we saw, the same ones that brought us here, could be up there waiting for us for all we knew, but we didn’t have any other choice. That was the best and only way out of the damn fucking cave.
So we all agreed that Kira was going to create an opening for us through the roof with her powers.
She shielded us with her magical shield, just to prevent rocks and debris from falling on us, but I was also worried about her. She stood directly under the place she was going to crack open. I wondered if she would be fast enough to shield herself and if she would have the strength to shield herself before the rocks got to her.
As she blasted the roof the first time, nothing happened. That was strange because she didn’t feel that there was magic protecting the roof. She tried again but still failed, but the third time she tried, it finally blasted open, and then the rocks came falling.
Isabella tried to warn her, but it was too late; the rocks fell on her. The shield that covered us was still up, so we thought she could still be alive until the shield began to disintegrate from the top.
Knowing what this could mean, I began to make a silent prayer to the goddess to help her for me. We rushed over to where the rocks had fallen on her. As we got there, my heart began to pound faster; I wasn’t feeling her.
I couldn’t hear her heartbeat too.
"No, no, this can’t be. Kira!" I lamented.
"Does that mean she’s dead?" Emilia asked, her voice shaky.
Isabella interrupted, "Don’t you dare say a thing like that. The Moon Keeper cannot just die like a chicken."
"What! You call this a chicken’s death? How could you still be this emotionless at this critical moment?" I shot at her.
"Maybe it’s because you all are being paranoid and being too much of a crybaby. The Moon Keeper is not dead. We just have to lift these rocks up and help her from under it."
"Isabella is right, Ryker. We need to lift these rocks up. The earlier, the better," Marcel agreed, trying to pacify the tension in the air.
As we were about to remove the rocks and stones, we were all surprised to see the stones floating on their own. You can imagine the shock on their faces.
"What’s going on?" Clara asked.
In no time, all the rocks were off, and there she stood, hale and hearty.
How’s this possible? I thought to myself.
I couldn’t hear her heartbeat, but all of a sudden, she’s standing in front of us alive without even a scratch. She had healed up very fast too.
Kira never ceases to amaze me every time.
We gathered around her, and then we made use of gravitational magic to go up.
A big, contented, and triumphant smile appeared on Isabella’s face. "I told you she’s not dead, didn’t I?"
I felt bad as I didn’t believe that she could be alive. You wouldn’t blame me; I really couldn’t hear a heartbeat, I couldn’t even feel her.
How that happened I am still not sure, and I didn’t even get the chance to talk to her about it. Besides, there was no time for chit-chatting.
Surprisingly too, Kira heard everything we said while she was still covered by the rocks. She expressed her dissatisfaction that we didn’t believe she could be alive.
"You heard everything?" Marcel asked, surprised.
"Of course I did."
"But how did you—"
"Survive the rocks?" She smiled. "It was easy."
She began to explain to us how she couldn’t move her legs due to the amount of energy she had put into creating the massive fireball, so the only thing she could do was to cover her body with a shield. She was too weak to maintain two shields at the same time, which was why she had to make our own shield come down since we were out of danger.
"I made use of my last energy in surrounding myself with a shield, so when the rocks came falling on me, I wasn’t affected by it," she said.
"I am glad you are alright, Kira." I hugged her tightly.
"Okay, I think I have to get my flowers too?" Isabella blurted out.
Everyone’s gaze was fixed on Isabella now.
"What flowers?" Clara asked.
"You know, for making our dear Moon Keeper come to her senses. Without that, she wouldn’t have gone all fire lord."
She was right. I felt a little bit incompetent as an alpha. Isabella was doing my job for me. Yes, she’s also an alpha wolf, but what she did to Kira—talking to her, making her know that she can do it by applying a little bit of pressure on her—now I ain’t talking about the slap part; I wouldn’t dare to do a thing like that.
But I meant every other thing she did, being strong for everyone, being optimistic and not letting my feelings for her get in the way of what we had come for.
No matter how hard I try to deny it, Kira’s duty as the moonkeeper, the saviour of the werewolf race, is more important than me; it’s more important than the both of us.
"You slapped me, Isabella," Kira said, her expression like one who is angry and who is not angry.
"Uhm, yes, I know, but that was just to trigger you," Isabella smiled.
"You were going to do it again if I hadn’t stopped you."
"That’s because you were still sulking."
I chuckled. "Thank you, Isabella. Your slap and harsh words really helped."
I gritted my teeth and clenched my fist. That should have been my job, not Isabella’s, but I failed in it. From that moment, I decided I was going to be more of a leader than a lover, or find a way to balance the two—make sure one isn’t affecting the other.
"You are welcome, Your Highness," Isabella said, bowing her head in a mocking way.
We all laughed. Who would have thought there was this side to the great female alpha wolf? Everyone was surprised at the way Isabella was; she was no longer the bitchy, always-angry wolf she used to be. She was more open-hearted; she was conversing more often and smiling more often.
Could this be because of the nightmare she had? Because deep down inside of me, I knew that something had changed ever since I came out of the nightmare. I felt more light-hearted; it was as if coming out of the nightmare took away a fear, a sadness.
Though no one was saying it, I could tell that every one of us standing there had changed for the better.
But who should the thanks be to? The nightmare creature or Kira?
What kind of a question is that? It definitely has to be Kira; her light brought us back.
"Ryker, I hope now you know that it’s not all the time a girl needs to be pampered and sweet-talked just so they could do what they are supposed to do," Isabella said, nudging me with her elbow.
As we all laughed and made jokes about each other, Kira stood in the middle of the open roof. I could tell she was wondering what awaits us, wondering if the shadow creature we had seen earlier, before falling into this dungeon with the moonstone, was still up there.
I knew because I, too, was wondering the same thing.
