Chapter 75: Chapter 75

Kira’s POV

"Come on, everyone, come closer. We don’t have time to waste; we’ve already wasted enough time down here."

"Yeah, you are right; we can’t afford to waste more time," Ryker added.

They all came closer to me and then I began to lift us with the help of gravitational magic.

"We need to be alert; we don’t know what might be lurking around, waiting for us to come out so they would strike", Ryker warned.

I agreed with him.

As we got closer to the surface, I began to feel multiple energy from above.

"Brace yourself guys! Something is definitely up there." I warned.

We finally got out of the cave to the surface. I was surprised to see no one around. I could swear in my life that I felt the energy coming from above, and not just any kind of energy, but strong ones like the ones I felt down in the cave.

"There’s nothing here" Emilia stated.

"Still we can’t lose our guard, Emilia; if there’s one thing I have come to understand by these creatures, it’s that they like to take us unaware; we can’t afford to let them catch us off guard", Isabella said.

She was right; so far, every creature we encountered had taken us unaware, and we had been caught off guard, not ready, which was why we fell into their trap countless times, but this time, we weren’t going to allow ourselves to be fooled by their tactics anymore.

"Everyone comes close, backs turned. Facing each other," Ryker commanded.

We all arranged ourselves in a circular motion, making sure our backs were facing each other. We moved around bit by bit just so we could take a good look at our surroundings.

"There’s nothing here" Marcel broke the silence.

"There’s something here, Marcel; I can feel it."

"Where is it?" Clara asked, her tone laced with a little bit of frustration.

"I can’t pinpoint its location; I think it’s masking its energy aura, so we don’t know where exactly it is," I said

"’It?’ You can’t be so sure it’s just one of them, they could be like a hundred out here in this forest," Isabella said.

Isabella was one of the most real people on the crew; she didn’t like to sugar-coat things, and she liked to be sure what she was up against; she left room for doubts and several possibilities happening.

Her presence in my crew made it possible for us to be able to see things from two angles. She was right. There could be a good number of this creature lurking around, but I could only sense one, though faint, but I could tell the enemy was strong.

"It’s good we expect more of the creatures," Ryker suggested.

There was a brief moment of silence as everyone’s eyes rolled, gaze searching, trying to find out if there was something.

Just when we were about to disband to rest for a while because we had been standing for more than an hour, we felt something. Our feet froze to the ground. Not literally, though, but the amount of energy and power coming out from this creature was alarming.

It was fierce.

It was scary.

We still hadn’t seen it, but we could feel its presence; it was tormenting.

Just then, I heard a whisper echoing through my ears, "Such power" The whisper was followed by an evil chuckle.

"Did you all hear that?" I asked.

But everyone looked confused.

"Hear what?" Ryker asked

"A whisper, a chuckle, please tell me you heard it ryker"

They all looked at each other, their gaze questioning. Then their gaze rested on me. Once again, just like always, I was the only one who could hear the creature speak, compliments of being the moonkeeper I guess.

The voice came again, this time a bit louder than the first and more sinister "Oh my dear little wolf, I am sorry, but your tiny little crew can not hear me; they don’t have such an amount of power. Though I could try to speak to them, it would only crush their minds into a million little pieces," he chuckled. "Would you love that?"

"Don’t you dare, you scumbag!" I warned

We spoke through the mind link he created.

I alone have that ability to be able to talk to other creatures through the mind.

The creature laughed horribly. The sound of his laughter made my stomach churn; it sent shivers down my spine. I cringed as a brief picture of the way he looked appeared briefly in my head.

I fell on one knee to the ground, my hands touching the ground and my head bowed as my heart raced.

His laughter came again, more sinister than the previous laughs. "Bow to me you little scumbag."

I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth.

"Kira, are you alright?" the others asked at the same time.

I stretched forth my arms to them, signalling to them to stop and not to come any closer.

I managed to regain my footing

"Oh, I see you’ve got some balls, little moonkeeper, but I am sorry to disappoint you. You are going to die right here, and you see that power of yours would be mine."

What does everyone want with my powers, why are they all so obsessed with it?

First, it was the dark entity, the same dark entity who was the major reason why we embarked on the journey, and now it’s this creature in the forest of Raventhorne, which we were yet to see in real form.

"The only person who will be getting their ass kicked today is you butthead!" I snapped.

"I like you, little messenger of the goddess; okay, here’s what I would do: I would give you an offer. Come work for me, and I promise to leave your powers to you, and of course, I am going to let your friends go."

"That is never going to happen asshole! I will not be a weapon for you; now listen to me clearly; this is what’s going to happen, you will let us go, and my friends and I will continue to look for what we’ve come here for."

He laughed hysterically. "Oh my dear, I am sorry to disappoint, but it seems like you gonna need to learn the hard way."

Suddenly, shadow armies began to rise from the ground; it was then I remembered that this was the forest of the undead and the forsaken. The one elder Anthony had warned us about.

"I guess our moonkeeper must have made the big guy angry", Isabella chuckled.

"How can you be smiling in a time like this?"

"Come on Clara, Where’s the fun in frowning all the time."

"There’s too many of them!" Marcel announced.

"We can’t fight them all, we are outnumbered." Emilia panicked.

"Outnumbered or not, it’s better to fight and die than to surrender to the shadow army,", Marvel said firmly.

I turned to look at all the shadow armies that were up already. The most surprising part of it all was that they weren’t done; more were still rising.

I clenched my fist.

I heard the creature’s laughter in my head. "I am sure you understand now that you can’t win this fight. And you know what the good thing about this? When you die here, you will rise as by shadow army and then you will belong to me for eternity."

"You wish" I snapped.

The shadow armies stood as if waiting for something. I was right; they had been waiting for the command from their master. They began to charge ahead the moment I heard him give them their command.

I stood there wondering what I was going to do.

As the shadow forces rushed toward us, time appeared to drag on. The others assumed defensive stances, yet their expressions revealed what we all understood—we were greatly outnumbered. These foes were not typical; they were the undead from Raventhorne, and they sought my strength.

"Got any thoughts, Kira?" Ryker’s voice remained calm despite it all.

I shut my eyes, sensing deeply within my being once again. Having expended so much energy to break through the cave, I was uncertain about how much I had remaining. However, there were no alternatives. We were unable to escape them, and we couldn’t battle them all.

"Remain near me," I instructed, grounding myself resolutely.

The voice inside my head chuckled once more. "You’re merely postponing the unavoidable, young wolf."

As the initial wave of shadow warriors arrived, I released the last of my strength—a dazzling orb of moonlight that spread outward, turning the front lines to ash. However, there was an overwhelming number, and my light was already fading.

"She is unable to manage them all!" I heard Clara yelling behind me.

My knees gave way as the next wave hit my shield. Sweat ran down my face as I fought to hold the shield. Amidst the faint light, I observed the being gradually emerging from the darkness—towering, ancient, with eyes that shone like fading stars.

"Your strength will shortly belong to me," it whispered, now not just in my thoughts but clear to everyone.

That’s when I sensed it—something awakening within me, something I had never tapped into previously. A unique form of magic, primal and fearsome. My sight fogged as silver symbols started to emerge on my skin, searing like flames.

Isabella inhaled sharply. "Kira, those eyes of yours!"

The final image I had before darkness consumed me was the creature’s expression—no longer assured, but filled with fear.
