Chapter 65: 64th Chapter: Speak of Cao Cao, and Cao Cao arrives!

The breaking news notification showed a picture from the scene. He Haolin’s shattered head had already been covered with a white cloth. Although there was no close-up of his face, how many high-ranking officials surnamed He were there in Jiangzhou? Combined with that build, it was undoubtedly He Haolin. Staring at the news on his phone, the student surnamed Teng who had stood up was completely stupefied after his cry of shock. Amidst his shouts, the other students of Class 7 stared with wide, unbelieving eyes.

He Haolin died in a car accident? This... this... how could that be possible?

Though He Haolin was known for his arrogance and domineering behavior, behind that facade was a well-known cowardly side. On more than one occasion, while sitting in the passenger seat, he had berated and struck his driver just for going a little too fast. Could someone with a personality like that possibly die in a car accident?

In a flash, someone mentioned a push notification from Tencent News, and most of the students pulled out their phones to check. Once they confirmed that it was indeed He Haolin, a chill ran down their spines.

Is life really that fragile? Was Young Master He, who had caused such a stir in the cafeteria just yesterday, really gone from the world just like that?

As this thought crossed their minds, more than half of the students began to tremble uncontrollably.

Yesterday... wasn’t Qin Fan one of the protagonists in that cafeteria incident? And today, He Haolin was dead? Most importantly, Qin Fan and Ji Yuchen, the central figures from yesterday’s incident, were a full three hours late today! The time of Young Master He’s death coincided exactly with their tardiness! Could Qin Fan have orchestrated this?

As this terrifying thought took root, everyone felt as if they’d been plunged into an ice cave, breaking out into a cold sweat. Subconsciously, many students turned to look at Qin Fan, but their gazes darted away the instant they made contact.

However, Qin Fan merely smiled coldly, indifferent to the commotion in the class. With his hands tucked in his pockets, he stood up nonchalantly and walked out of the classroom. Nearby, Ji Yuchen bit her pink lip, her pretty face deathly pale, and quickly followed him out.

"Qin Fan!" Ji Yuchen finally called out as they neared the end of the hallway.

"What is it?" Qin Fan, who had noticed her following but decided to let things play out, turned and asked with a faint smile.

"He Haolin is dead! It was really him, I recognize his clothes!" Ji Yuchen said in horror, her voice trembling and the color still not having returned to her face.

"What’s it to me if he’s dead?" Qin Fan replied, the corner of his mouth curving up slightly. He then added playfully, "What, you don’t think I killed him, do you?"

"No, of course not!" Ji Yuchen reflexively denied.

Although, when she first heard about He Haolin’s accident, the first name that popped into her head was Qin Fan’s. It was only natural. Just yesterday, He Haolin had clashed with Qin Fan, and today, he was suddenly dead? Moreover, Qin Fan had seemed unusually bold yesterday. When facing He Haolin, he hadn’t shown any of his usual timidity. Instead, he met him head-on, even grabbing He Haolin’s leg, pinning it on a table, and tapping it with a chopstick. Finally, the cafeteria owner, Ma Yunbin’s, attitude toward Qin Fan had been utterly surreal. All signs pointed to the fact that Qin Fan was not simple. Not simple at all. His supposed worthlessness and cowardice might have all been a deliberate act. Given all that, how could she not have thought of him?

But after thinking it through, she felt the idea couldn’t hold water. He Haolin had died in a crash while he was driving. Even if Qin Fan was extraordinary, he couldn’t have done that. Besides, the conflict was just a restaurant squabble, and in the end, He Haolin was the one who fled in disgrace, not Qin Fan. That made a motive even more unlikely.

If someone said He Haolin tried to kill Qin Fan, that would be believable. But Qin Fan killing He Haolin? In that moment, it seemed utterly impossible to her.

"If that’s not what you think, then what is it?" Qin Fan smiled slowly, licking his lips as he spoke in a frivolous tone.

"No, no, I just mean we might be in some trouble! He Haolin had a run-in with us at the cafeteria yesterday, and today he’s dead! The police will definitely come looking for us. And with his father’s status, I’m afraid we’re going to be implicated!" Ji Yuchen said, fraught with worry. Looking closely, one could see her delicate body trembling faintly. The prim and proper girl was truly terrified.

"What’s there to be afraid of? A clear conscience is a good defense. I’m not scared, so why are you? Heh heh," Qin Fan teased, throwing her own words back at her. His face was devoid of any worry or tension, as if nothing had happened.

He knew the investigation into He Haolin’s death would eventually lead to him, but so what? Did they think Ye Jizu was useless? If he couldn’t even handle something so minor, he would be unworthy of the title ’Old Master’.

"But, but—" Ji Yuchen began, her anxiety growing heavier.

Before she could finish, Qin Fan cut her off. "No buts. Go do whatever you need to do. I’m heading to the restroom. You want to follow me in there, too?"

"Pfft! As if I’d go with you!"

His cheeky words instantly replaced her nervous trepidation with a flush of embarrassment. Ji Yuchen, an innocent girl who had hardly even had her hand held by a boy, huffed and retorted with a blushing face.

"Alright, stop overthinking it. Whether Young Master He is dead or alive has nothing to do with you. So you argued with him yesterday? If that were a crime, the skies of Huaxia would be filled with wronged souls," Qin Fan said with a reassuring smile.

Ji Yuchen nodded, her willow-like brows knitted together. Regardless, she had known He Haolin for several years, and he had pursued her for two or three of them. Now, faced with the news of his sudden death, it was impossible not to feel a pang of sadness. No matter how much He Haolin had annoyed her before, her heart wasn’t made of stone. How could she remain completely indifferent?

She looked up and met Qin Fan’s eyes. Biting her lip, she said nothing more and turned to walk back to the classroom.

But before she could take a single step...

THUD. THUD. THUD.

A series of urgent, sharp footsteps echoed from the stairwell. Qin Fan, who had already spread his Divine Sense, narrowed his eyes.

Speak of the devil. Ji Yuchen had been right. What Qin Fan hadn’t expected was how quickly they had arrived.

In a flash, a swarm of police officers rushed up the stairs.

Ji Yuchen, who had not yet left, froze completely, her eyes filled with panic. Although, as Qin Fan had said, He Haolin’s death had nothing to do with her, how many teenage girls could remain calm in such a situation? Especially since she’d had a conflict with him in the cafeteria right before he died. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

In the moment Ji Yuchen hesitated, she was immediately spotted by the arriving police. They turned, saw Qin Fan was also there, and quickly surrounded the two of them.

"You’re Qin Fan and Ji Yuchen, right? Please come with us to assist in the investigation."
