The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 54: The injured boy - I
Everyone looked at the hysterical woman who had raised her voice at the man to stop him from killing, what they called, a useless commodity.
I was the hysterical woman.
This must be common here, they were killing children which were too far gone to be sold.
The boy could not even glance at me as he gave out a small groan at the pain he felt. He was not able to even speak or open his eyes. My heart ached for him and I could not hold back from helping him as much as I could.
"My lady," The dagger disappeared once again in the belt of the man as he respectfully addressed me. "Forgive me, I should have not brought a weapon out in the presence of a woman. Understandably, you are not familiar with the sight of such violence but I lost myself in my anger."
He looked down at the boy and once again a familiar expression of anger took place on his face. "As you must know the people that we sell bring us profits and people only buy what is healthy or pretty. This is neither of the two which makes me want to strangle his throat and kill him because he is a liability to me!"
By the way and the tone the vendor had used it was obvious that he had assumed me to
be someone of a higher class and someone who was going to buy a slave from here which is why he was being so respectful to me.
But it meant nothing to me as he was going to kill the boy just because he was too injured to be sold.
"I’ll buy him." The words went out of my mouth before I could even think. "I will buy him." This was a whisper which made it seem that even I was not sure if I wanted to do it or not.
I was buying not a commodity but someone who was living and breathing and was a human. I was sinning when I was the one who was the messenger of God, whose were what God wanted to happen.
"Madam?" He titled his head slightly and placed his boot on the neck of the boy. "He is sick. Injured and in a pitiful state which he cannot recover from and if he does that would mean you have to spend a lot of money on it." He informed me dutifully, "Which would be far greater than the cost you would pay to buy him."
I did not care for the cost. "What is the cost?"
He scoffed and moved to me, stepping over the boy as he did so. "I cannot take anything for him because I am discarding him." He smiled at me, a customer. "Perhaps I could interest you in someone of more strength?"
There were more, I realized. But I also knew the fact that there was nothing I could do for them given that I have no power in this country even if I was a royal.
"No," I shook my head, denying his offer. "I want him. How much is he. . .worth?" The word was bitter in my mouth and I did not ever want to use it again for a human.
He nodded with an exhausted sigh. "If you are so firm in your decisions then I would like to inform you that we do not take what we sell back. No matter how much you may fight us."
"It is alright." I was never going to step into this market again. "Take the chains off him." I pointed at the boy and he leisurely moves to the boy as he took off his chains.
"Are you sure?" I looked at the man assigned to me by the prince and nodded. He did not look convinced. "Are you sure, your highness? You do not look like someone who would enjoy the buying of flesh."
"How long would it take for the prince to come back?" I asked instead of answering him. "I want to go into the town with the boy."
The man looked behind me for a quick moment and then addressed me. "I have enough time to make a trip into the town and come back. The town is not that far away and the prince would be done by then." He looked behind me. "Do you want me to load the boy into the carriage?"
I nodded, gulping. Load, he used the word as if the boy was nothing but a commodity.
My eyes followed every movement of the them as he threw the boy over his shoulder and moved to the carriage as a follow them.
"Do not place him in the back." I interrupted his movements, "place him inside as I am traveling alone, I would have no problem with it."
He hesitated but he knew better than to reject what I had said which is why he placed the boy inside the carriage, after which I told him the address I wanted to go to and when I took a seat inside as well, I finally got a good look at him.
He had bruises both old and new, wounds from whipping which had never even closed and a few looked heavily infected. The boy did not even open his eyes but I could see that he was trying his hardest to breathe and try to survive which only added to my courage and efforts as I tried to help him.
"I. ." I gulped as my chest felt heavier. What was done to this boy of merely sixteen was brutal and I could not even bear to look at him.
"Do you remember where you came from?" I whispered as I bent down a little.
He gave a slightly louder sigh and I heard it but that was no use to me. Perhaps he was way too injured than I was assuming.
The carriage finally stopped and I breathed in a sigh of relief as the boy would finally be better.
"Your highness," the man stood in front of me as he opened my door. "Are you sure? This is a . . . Useless expense." He looked at boy again.
I sighed loudly as I state at him and he nodded moving aside as I stepped down.
We were at the healers.
