Chapter 286: A sister’s letter - I

~A few days later~

Estelle felt restless. It had been a long while since she had received anything from her sister Genevieve and that was only about her confirmation of being alive and the dreaded vampires.

The vampires that she could get almost no material on in her kingdom. Almost every book contained nothing in it and she had had scholars read every page and word on it thoroughly before coming back to report on it to her.

How was she supposed to fight an enemy who she had no knowledge about? That was as well as walking into the war zone and prepared, without any weaponry, without any strategy, a fools play.

Then how was she ever supposed to find the vampires if they ever attacked her country?

In fact, how was she supposed to bring her sister back when... She was in the midst of a country where vampires were ruling?

Apparently, as much as she knew and that was just hearsay between countries, rumours that she would never have paid attention to but was the only source of information, vampires had unlimited strength and no weapon was enough to kill them.

She huffed. Night by night, she was losing sleep on this topic that never went away. She would always end up thinking about it more and more than before.

Once again, Estelle walked out of the apartments assigned to her and made way to the apartment of the Queen. The only source of comfort.

These were kept empty as a tribute to her mother. There was no way in hell that a concubine would ever stay in the same place as their mother did.

The soldiers that stood guard on The other side of the door bowed before opening the door for her and then closing it behind her. Once inside, she looked at every piece of furniture that remained the same as the day her mother had left it.

Slowly walking into the living room where her mother often hosted the audience, she sank into one of the sofas before closing her eyes and breathing heavily.

The similar scent of her mother was no longer hair. The only scent that ever brought her comfort.

How they had made a lot of memories here... Countess of them. Many with his sisters and many alone. The one-on-one talks she would receive from her mother as the heir to the throne.

The throne that was about to be snatched away from her hands. It was barely there.

As if another heir to the throne being a boy was not enough, he had every corrupt minister in his pocket. Even though the boy was an idiot, no one would pay attention to Augustus when they would have their own politics to play out. And before long, the royal house of Heathrone would be wiped out.

"Oh god," Estelle sighed and sniffed slightly. " Help me, mother. Help me just this once.."

she felt like she was breaking apart. Bit by bit, strip by strip everything was coming off and the little fragile version that cried alone at night would be left for everyone to say. That soft shell would be broken by everyone and nothing would be left of her.

Nothing would be left of the kingdom, of the motherland she swore to protect...

Slowly opening her eyes , she raised her hand to her head and plucked off the crown. Estelle eyed it before huffing.

The crown of the first princess and heir to the throne was given to her at the age of thirteen when she had ended her womanhood. That was the time they had teamed her mature enough to handle the responsibilities of the firstborn.

The responsibilities that she was feeling at miserably.

She looked at her ring finger on her left hand, the ring of the first born was also there. Handed to her by her mother when she received it at the age of 14. She was buried with the ring of the queen, there was no way her sisters and her could ever let anyone else wear it.

"maybe I’m not supposed to be the princess..." she mumbled, staring at the crown, the beauty of it. "Maybe Genevive would have been better at it than me. Even the little Katherine that I sent away for protection might be better."

She smiled sadly at the thought of Catherine. Sending away the youngest was the hottest decision she made but it was important. At least in that way, in the absence of Genevive, therefore he would not be able to trade off another sister in the name of marriage to another kingdom. Not when the money that would be brought from eight would be used to his personal expenses and not towards the kingdom.

"Hah," she laughed sadly.

In the recent letter that she had received from Catharine’s lady in waiting, she had been told that apparently little Catherine had fallen in love!

"At least someone is experiencing love.." she on the other hand, had experienced one thing her entire life and that was politics.

The door opened with a bag making her joke up and down her head towards it was an angry expression on her face.

"Your highness!" Tara ran inside, "there you are!" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Tara, what is the meaning of this? You know I do not like to be disturbed when I am here."

"I do, i do but," Tara sat on her knees by her side before raising her skirt and pulling out something from the tights of her legs. "Here a letter came. The Horsemen said that he covered the distance as much as he could into nights only. I gave him gold coins for this!"

"and I shall reimburse you." Estelle said as a matter of habit before taking the letter from her. When she read the name from who it had been sent from, her eyes bulged out.

It was from Genevive.
