Chapter 284: The bleeding man - I

There was just something about palaces. Palaces were meant to be Bustling around with activities. Not just activities by the royal family but even by the servants. Something was just always going on and the noise was had almost everywhere.

This time it would no footsteps, no murmurs, no lingering stairs that I found while walking to the first floor of the palace where almost everyone could be found at least once in a day. Even common people were here.

It almost felt like this was the haunted palace, left alone by people because of a ghost lingering in the whole ways.

The absence of the noise almost took the glory of the palace and left it as a place that was just decorated with a gloomy environment and luxurious items.

"Princess!"

I jumped and turned around almost stumbling down the stairs but caught on to the railing in time.

It was Dorothy, she was standing above a few stairs. By the looks of it, her heaving chest and blushing cheeks, she had obviously come here running.

"What?" My voice was hoarse making me clear my throat. "What is it?"

"I—" She said breathlessly as she neared me, " I was trying to find you. Where have you been? Everyone has been running around and I thought I lost you!"

"You found me," I pointed out before turning around and towards the dining hall, "follow me if you wish too."

Without much energy left in me, I moved around and walked straight until I came to the door that was still open to the dining hall. The people remained as they had been left by the servants and I.

Could someone believe that the most powerful people in this country or maybe even in the world, rolling on the floor and conscious or even dead to the world?

I did not look at any one of them, sitting or laying on the floor. My attention was towards the king who was still in the same position as I had left him.

Even when he was unconscious, he was not on the floor like everyone else. He was on his chair with a crown on his head.

Maybe he did deserve it, more than Terrence perhaps.

But at the end of the day he was not written on my feet. Otherwise we would have been together as well.

Stopping right next to him, I touched his cold cheek. Maybe one of the last times I would ever touch him. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

I would miss him, I would miss the only man I ever loved.

Gulping, I slowly lowered and kissed his left cheek before raising up slowly and stepping back to leave the room.

By the looks of it, almost everyone had left the palace. It was almost empty and only Dorothy remained.

"Her?" I asked for my other lady in waiting.

"She left," Dorothy cleared her throat, "eloped."

Ah, Of course. She was supposed to ask for my permission and even though I was not like my sister and would usually grant it, of course she saw the first opportunity to elope and she did.

I sighed, "and what about you? Do you have anyone in your mind that you would wish to live with?" If she did, it would be better for her to leave now.

"No," I felt disappointed but nodded.

"Do you have any way to go?"

"I wish to follow here if that is alright." Dorothy cleared her throat. "I was saved by Queen Cynthia when I was being sold, I have always known to be beside you and I would like to continue if you wish to have me."

I nodded again. I had lost Merelyn but I had also gained another companion Dorothy in her place.

"alright," I glanced behind her and pointed her to work beside me and not behind, "we are going to the east wing."

She had really worked beside me and passed me a smile before we quickened our steps and walked towards the small door at the end of the tower.

"Why are we going there?" Dorothy passed me a concern to look.

I did not answer her. I honestly have no idea why I did not answer her. But instead of that I kept on walking straight until I was face-to-face with the door.

This was age. The reality made me want to cry and already with my eyes. This was the last of what I would see of Tristan.

"I.." I swallowed thickly before closing my eyes and taking in a deep breath.

I had to do this. In fact, I had already done this so what was I so afraid of? Taking the last step that was mandatory now?

Taking my first step outside the palace, I did not stop until I reached the road and immediately started to look around to find that small wagon or carriage that they might be carrying the prints in.

" Princess?" Dorothy appeared by my side, frantically looking around like I did. "What are we looking for? Are we waiting for someone?"

"We are waiting for Sir Walter, the secretary to my mother. He lives in this kingdom and I found him in the library near the infirmary. He is going to help us take someone else into hiding as well until that man is well. So we are waiting for that injured man." I said every thing in one breath. I was just eager to finish her questions and this was one way to do that.

"Oh.." she whispered and fell silent.

The moment silence blanketed us, I remembered to one thing. Turning to Dorothy, I said, " call me Genevieve from now on. For two reasons, one because we are going into hiding and no one needs to hear the word princess and number two, because you are my friend and you deserve to call me by my name."

It was dark so I Ignored that her eyes might have watered. Only Merelyn had had that right until now and she was the second man to receive the right of such from the royal family member. This meant a lot.

I held back my tears by blinking repeatedly when I heard the wheels and a horse neigh.
