Chapter 240: The unfair rule - I

I had never imagined my life to take it even enough to stand on the sidelines. I always stood on the balcony where everyone could see me, show me, and besides my father where a princess was supposed to stand.

Now I was overlooking the crowd when no one could see me or hear me. The people on the windows did not exist. No matter how close they were to the family they never existed close enough to stand on the balcony and Tristan had pushed me enough.

Lara stepped forward and I stared at her position longingly. She was at the age of the balcony, becoming the most visible person from the royal family.

"Citizens of Astria," Lara’s voice thundered, and I was sure that everyone heard her, "The family, house of Stonebow, has been defeated. The war that happened weeks ago was won by us, the vampires, or as you call us, creatures of the night. We, now. Rule the lands and bodies of Astria."

Lands and bodies? What was wrong with Lara? If she continued to speak this way the people would feel more threatened.

"We, the house of sanguinum, declare our win over the family of stonebow. The vampires win, the vampires rule."

Each spoken by her thundered and I gaped at her. The volume increased and by the faces of the people that I could see, they were hearing every word.

"However, recently," she looked at the sky, appearing to wonder, "a human has challenged us. This particular human has tried to take advantage of the knowledge they possess for their benefit and frankly speaking, His Highness does not approve of this."

She let it sink in. I knew why she was doing it. If anyone else was involved in this crime she was letting the fear sink into them.

I did not know if it was just Lara or the entire family behind this but this was rather clever.

"We belong to the night but I find justice back to which is why both of the parties will be punished," she looked back, "bring in the criminals."

Criminals? They had branded Aron as a criminal?

On hearing the sudden footsteps, multiple of them I turned to my left only to see soldiers carrying both the human and the vampire culprits.

They were taken over the balcony and both of them stood beside Lara. The human however was being supported by two soldiers whom I could tell were vampires.

"The Vampire will be given can lashes in the bright Sun everyday for the next 15 days. The human however since has conspired against us with the knowledge given to him will be," she looked at him, "receiving death." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Gasps left the crowd and mamas ran ground as the crowd went frantic at the information received.

"Silence!" She bellowed and the crowd went still. "I am not finished." Lara glared down at everyone before blinking back and calming herself.

This was a completely new side I was watching of the little girl that I thought was just like Catherine. She was clearly older, she was clearly wiser and she was clearly much more dangerous.

And just like that I was met with another version of someone that I was not aware existed.

"The human will not be given any kind of healing or medication in regards to what he has chosen to do." She looked at him in disgust. The man was barely alive or aware of where he was.

"The human knew what he was doing when he attempted to tempt a vampire into being punished. He shall receive what he knew could happen."

The crowd remained silent. They were still looking at her anticipating what more she could tell them. I was even breathing heavily waiting for her to speak.

What more could she say now?

Instead of providing them with the comfort and harmony that Tristan ones spoke of they had completely overturned everything that I had planned for. They had invoked fear in the people for them.

Did they even try to achieve harmony or was it from the very beginning that they wanted to have people fear them.

The crowd remained silent. It was just a few moments ago where she had asked them to remain silent while telling them that she was not yet finished.

The sphere in their heart was already settled even before any of it began.

"Let this be a lesson to all and everyone who thinks that they can use our strength and weaknesses against us. We demand loyalty and we give loyalty in return. If you think of harming us we will harm you back fair and square!" She yelled, making me jump.

Merilyn placed her hand over my fist balled at my side.

"You shall remain and if you cannot accept us," she gave them all a good look, "if you do then harmony and peace shall remain in this Kingdom. We shall only thrive together."

Oh dear lord.

I closed my eyes as I released the soft sigh. I do not know why this did not come to my mind before but did my opinion really matter to any of them? Did Tristan even need to listen to me on my efforts to save his friend when at the end of the day is going to happen?

They were never going to let me address the public because they wanted Lara to make the declaration. The king was going to watch while his spokesperson was going to speak like it happened in any of the kingdoms but this time Lara threatened them.

The peace and harmony was a joke to them. They were going to demand what they knew they could not get. Somehow I feel that I might be responsible for planting the idea into Tristan’s head because I have told him that harmony and peace was something that might never happen given that they were vampires and they needed blood to live.

"Remember this," Lara said louder, "times have changed."
