Chapter 209: The Wolves - IV

I could see the uncertainty behind those firm eyes. Tristan tried his best to hide it but I knew he wanted me to accept it.

"I. . Don’t know. . " I admitted and watched as his head lowered.

I felt so bad but I had admitted to the truth. His lowered head did not make me feel any better. I felt so guilty.

"Have you never felt anything for me?" He spoke up after some time but did not raise up his head. "They must be something, something very small, that you must have felt for me some day."

I had. I still did.

"Say it," his hand covered mine as he kneeled in front of me. "Say it, Genevieve. Tell me that you had feelings for me."

I closed my eyes. This was hard. There was a constant pain that I felt by the mark given to me by him. How was it ever move on when I felt it everytime?

"Be honest." He kissed my hand.

"I did." I still do but I did not say it.

He was not surprised by my revelation, rather look like he was relieved that I had finally told him the truth. "Then what is it? What is it that you’re scared of? What is it that hinders you from being with me?"

I pointed to my neck. That should be enough. "To think about it, the only reason I am standing in front of you might be because of that little love I have inside for you. Otherwise I am very fearful of you, Tristan."

"I didn’t mean to. The thought of betrayal was too much." He murmured, "I wanted to kill you, Genevieve. You should be thankful that the bite was not that deep."

That made me scoff. "I don’t even know any loyalty and second of all how dare you say that I should be thankful. You bit me and there is nothing for me to be thankful about."

His grip on my hand tightened but it was not painful rather it felt like he was restricting me from going.

"You should," he said and I saw those bright red eyes grow deep in colour almost resembling blood, "because I am nice enough does not mean that I can turn to my true nature. I have been restricting myself since day one and it gets harder each time which you don’t realise."

I tried to get my hands out of a grip but failed miserably because his hold was unyielding. "Let go," I snapped whilst he smirked.

I grew more annoyed than ever. "Stop it!"

He shook his head. "Why should I?"

What was with him? This was nothing to be playful about.

"I came to ask you about the false and you are not leaving my hand." I give it a tug towards me only for him to restrain it. "Would you let go?"

"Why should I? Are you even aware of what you touched me? If my heart was still beating I would show you how quick it would beat."

I looked away with burning cheeks. He was too much!

"Tell me about the wolf," I asked coming back to the topic.

"Tell me your answer," he said back immediately.

"Would you take it seriously? There was a wild full inside the palace was. What is next time he kills someone?"

"He won’t," Tristan reassured, "and if you are worried about you can do not be. There is nothing that can hurt you."

Except him. He forgot about that.

"Just tell me." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

He smiled, "just say yes."

"Fine!" I blurted out in frustration. "I do! Now what?"

A sudden look of shock passed his face. He was not expecting me to give in which I just realised. What had I done?

I gasp left my mouth at the sudden pull I felt. Tristan’s face came much more nude and it was earlier. He had pulled me onto his lap.

I blinked at the sight. It was too close for me.

"Now," he whispered softly, "I will court you."

"C-court me?"

He nodded, "cou—"

A knock broken out attention towards each other and we looked at the door. Nokul entered, "King Darius is here."

King? Chaira was right then. He did have something to do with the wolf otherwise he would not come here. . . How did he travel so quickly from the north? This was a matter of today morning and he had reached by the evening. That was not possible.

Nokul, when I looked back at him, what’s the not meeting my eyes. He stared directly at Tristan.

"Alright," Tristan acknowledge, "remember that he should be given the best treatment from our side."

Nokul nodded, bowed and left.

Tristan looked at me, stilling sitting on his lap. "I am sorry but we could have to cut our time short. Darius is going to have dinner with us and I expect you to be there. And I will guide you on what to do."

I laughed slightly at his concerns. "You don’t need to worry about that Tristan. I have been trained to have royal and political dinners all my life. There is no thing that will wrong on from my side." I had been through countless dinners both practice and reasl along with many governesses who guided me on what to do and what to say.

Mirth danced in those eyes. "I know that, my love. But the problem is this is not just a political dinner but this is up to no of base and we have different cultural and Traditions." His fingers lightly traced me nose. "The traditions that I am sure you are not aware of."

His touch had me shiver, even if it was one of the lightest ones ever. I gulped as he caressed at the outline of my lips.

"You should go." He said but made no move to let go of me. "I have agreed to quote you and I cannot hurry anything up. I have a eternity, my love. I shall spend it with you."
