Chapter 176: Them (a)

~The royal palace of Melenmore ~

My lady in waiting woke me up before dawn. Sister Estelle wanted out of the palace before the sun was up in the sky and everything was visible in the light.

"Bath, Princess Catherine?" Judith asked and I nodded. If I did not bathe I would not be able to stay awake the entire day."

Everything was so quiet. Earlier when everything was not as it was today the maids were usually up and about and were cleaning the hallways.

I did not know why she wanted me out of the palace today itself and whenever I tried to ask her she would defect from the topic and her words would always be like I am young and I do not have that much knowledge or experience in the games that one plays.

I truly wish that one day she would understand that I notice much more than she does. One does not seem to hold themselves back when in the company of a child and that is how I notice most of the people that involves herself with are nothing but traitors. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Sister Estelle never believed my words no matter how many times I told her.

Judith and Irene had already packed my clothes and other necessities for me. They were going to stay with me in a remote village that my sister was sending us to. As I took a quick but I could not help but wonder if the sister that I loved and cherished was doing it to safeguard me from what was about to come or was she just sending me a way so that I want to become a thorn in her way.

My other sister that I had cherished and loved the most was no longer a family member. A father refused to tell us why and the only thing he told us was now she was Astria’s headache and none of us could keep contact with her.

I don’t understand this. Why would a stop us from conversing with Genevieve? Was it not enough that she was another Kingdom? How heartless could our father be?

The door opened and Estelle entered, shutting them close behind her. "Is she ready?" She asked Judith who nodded. Her eyes Turned to me and they softened. "Are you ready?"

"Would you still not tell me what it is?" I softly asked her. " At least you can tell me why you are sending me away, sister Estelle."

Her nostrils flared as she complentated on telling me or not. She waved her hand and Judith and Erene disappeared.

She kneeled in front of me and that was something my sister never did. It only scared me of what she was about to say. "They have been rumours about the overthrow of queen Annatasia’s family by some unknown people."

My heart sank and I could no longer find it in myself to breathe. "What?! Genevieve? What about her?" Everyone knew what happened to the royal family once they were captured.

Estelle’s eyes lowered as she shook her head. "We do not know."

I closed my eyes and the tears escaped. Oh the horrors that Genevieve might be going through. I prayed to the god that it was mine and she was not being tortured.

"What now?" I opened my eyes and looked at my sister, "are we not sending in our troops to help?" If thanks for bad than we could send ambassadors and ministers to bring genevieve back. There was not much time passed after her marriage to the prince so we could claim her back.

Estelle’s eyes did not raise to mine and she shook her head slowly. "We need to ascertain if she is there or not first. If she has escaped already then we do not want to cause them to act against us. I have written letters to be delivered but none have been replied."

I let out a shaky sigh. This was not good.

"Wh. . Won’t we attack?" I want to crumble up and cry out loudly. Why could we not help my sister? Why?

She shook her head. "Father would not entertain this and as long as he is King we cannot do anything about it." She gulped and patted my head. "Do not worry." She said making me cry more.

She stood up and was ready to work away when I said, "who is that that has attacked astria? Their defences and army were quite strong." It must be difficult to defeat that country. So how did those people manage it?

Was it the Kingdom of Lethoris? They could do it to conquer more land.

Estelle stiffened but did not turn around making me suspicious. What?

She shook her head. "We do not." She said and turned around, "I will write to you soon, once you reach there," before working out of the room.

Somehow those words manage to scare me more than anything else. Was it possible that somehow in this world remained people that we did not know what?

"Here," the letters were placed in front of me and I opened them. The same sender it was.

I bit my lip as I read the contents of the letter. Crumbling the paper in my hands, I stood up from my seat and placed it over the torch near me.

I watched as it burned. The last remnants of it fell off the floor and I sighed. The game had begun.

"Now," I Turned to the woman, "what I want to do is," I walked back to the small pot and slid the papers from underneath and handed it to her, "give these to the man whom I have addressed the above. He will know what to do."

She nodded, glancing at them. " Anything else?" Her eyes went to my clothes and it did not escape ask me how she looked down at them. No matter.

"No," I smiled, "just get it done."

The game was of patience too.
