Chapter 173: A friend - III

"You don’t need to do this." I heard her say but the sight of her chained up brought me to tears and it broke me. It shattered me.

Just when her arms were left a step back and so that the soldier that had given me the key. "Why did you attack me Marilyn?" I asked her once again just for my sanity. "Was there a particular reason that you did so?"

She shook her head. "I-I just wanted to stay with Allan. I do realise that this is my mistake. I did not have control over myself like I thought I would." Her eyes went to my neck before she lowered her eyes. " I’m so sorry. I heard that you were fighting your life constantly."

I did hear that. "Tristan said that he is going to punish you. What punishment is it going to be?" I needed to know that.

She didn’t raise her eyes. "He will have him whipped. Allan and I vouched but I broke it, I am to be punished."

I could imagine her being with publicly. As a member of the royal family I had often witnessed public punishments and beheading and whipping one of the most common ones.

But when I imagined Marilyn going through the same pain as it was inflicted upon the person. . .

"Open her," I struggled to say, "unchain her."

The guard went ahead to unchain her. "Leave," I told him once he was finished. They both looked wry but one look from the wrestler and threatening step they were both out of the prison cell.

"You should not have done that. I attacked you princess. I deserve to be punished." Merilyn whispered as she cried.

I wiped away the slipping tears. "How many times have I told you you look ugly while crying?" I folded my arms as I sat down on the floor. There was no small cot here. "Stop it."

She slumped with me. "Why did you do it?"

Why did I indeed. But I knew exactly what I did in my heart and when I saw her all chained up it only strengthened my resolve.

"Because," I gather of the courage to reveal the truth and hold your hand in mine, "I lost you once and because I know . ." I gulped, "that even if you did not have the chance to come back to life you would have sacrificed yourself for me. . " I sniffed, it was hard, "and deep inside my heart I am glad that you had the chance." She was family. She had been there for me.

"Princess. . ." She whispered in amazement.

I nodded my head repeatedly. "I am just so glad that you are back and I would have never said it because I thought you betrayed me and I thought you were dead and I accepted it." I sniffed, closed my eyes to control my tears and then opened my eyes with a smile on my face, "I am happy to have you back and and I apologize for slapping you."

"I deserved it." She said and I nodded. She did and that made her laugh. "Thank you. And you are right. Even if I did not have the chance to come back I would have really sacrificed my life for you."

I knew that. I knew that was true. My facial muscles relaxed as I thought about the questions I really had. Tristan would never answer then and if he did the answers were filtered. Marylin would reveal more answers to my questions and Tristan ever would.

I gulped as I calmed down. She was already looking at me. "When did you know about them?"

"The second night." She answered truthfully. "However I got to know about the beloveds on the third. However, I did feel something for Allen but then I blamed it on the bond."

I did too. I was almost too shy to ask the question on the tip of my tongue. "H-How does it feel?"

A smile graced her face instantly and by the amount of time that I had known married in for it was not forced. "Blissful. Everything seems to be worth it."

It? "It here stands for the transformation?"

She nodded. Her smile for debate but she kept it going. "I was a follower of God princess and I have never denounced him. I think it is necessary for us to survive while pushing down the rest beneath us. It’s just like how we do. The animals we hunt and kill to eat ourselves but here we let them go alive." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

I scowled. "But how is it that you expect a person to live after you take the blood from them? Would they not bleed to death?"

"No," she whispered, "that is why people are trained to be at the sight of blood and not lust for it. The hunger subsides and we take care of ourselves with small amounts on repeated intervals. Once the control settles in it gets easier because we do not need a lot to survive."

"Unlike you." I deadpanned and she nooddd sheepishly.

"I’m very, very sorry." She whispered and laid out her head in my lap. "I don’t know how to put re my apologies. I deserve the punishment princes. You should have let me be chained up."

The image of Marilyn hanging from a pole flashed in front of my eyes. "How was it that when they court you and hanged you?" I did know the horrifying question about what I had asked and I waited for her reply and I would have taken the silence as an answer as well.

"Horrid, utterly horrifying." She started sobbing immediately. "They were not kind, not at all princess." She sniffed, "it was so . ." Her hand went to her neck, "I choked for air. I felt the pain and I felt my neck. . . crack."

I closed my eyes feeling every word that she had said. "Never again." I told told her as I had multiple footsteps, they were here, he was here, "Never."
