The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 153: A new world - II
~Palace of Astria~
"Is it true brother?" Anastasia rounded the strategy table and came to stand in front of Lethoris. "Creatures of the night real?"
The commander general nodded, "They appear to be. The kidnappings are evidence of it. The most shocking discovery is that people actually see the kidnapped children after months and they appear to be healthy and not abused in any way."
Anastasia raised her perfectly done eyebrows. "Hmm, it seems to be very . . uncommon."
"That’s one word for it." He agreed, "but rumour has it that it has already reached Melenmore."
" What?" She snapped, taken by surprise. "How have they already reached Melenmore? We do not even know what they are, how are you supposed to fight them!"
She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "How late are we?"
Her brother sighed, "Very." He said honestly.
"How much?" She barked out. She did not want anyone to deflect from the questioning. If something was coming her way Anastasia would appreciate that the most that she knew about it.
"Do you remember when the crowning of the first Prince of Lethoris was pushed forward without any reason?" He asked and she nodded. "He had gone after the creatures of the night and they had almost taken his life away. He has been healing for quite a few months."
She sucked in a harsh breath. "They entered the palace?" That was bad.
"No," he shook his head, his spies had not told him that, "the prince is gone after them. Even though the king had not allowed him to."
Anastasia tutted, "Well, he was a fool to do so. But then again they have three boys, so it is understandable if they did not care much. Surely they must have sent numerous Guards with him?"
"Around forty, your highness," he answered as his expressions turned grim, "they would not even be two creatures in total."
Dread started to settle in. Two creatures had completely wiped off forty guards with the prince. Since The Prince was the one who was to be crowned the king in the future they must have had highly trained guards sent with him yet the creatures had overpowered their skill.
This did not sit well with her.
"If they have already reached Melenmore then it does not make sense for us to attack the country. We have to strengthen our differences." She placed her trembling hands onto her stomach trying to calm herself down by taking in deep breaths.
She turned to her brother, "Do you think that they would be coming for us?"
She saw him sigh and look at the maps. He pointed to where their country was. "I cannot deny it."
She sighed, "can they not be killed?"
"No one has ever cared for them so I can not say anything for show. All we know is therefore more powerful."
She narrowed her eyes, "where did they come from?" They must have originated somehow and people Should have been aware of that.
"Your highness!" Linda barged into the room and breathed heavily as she immediately kneeled in front of her highness knowing that she had pretty much disrespected her highness.
"What is the meaning of this Linda?" Queen Anastasia calmly asked her maid. Every maid of hers knew what the consequences could be of even a small act of disobedience.
"The-there are people o-outside the palace," she stuttered, "dead people." She completed it.
Anastasia’s eyes widened briefly as she immediately moved out of the room and stopped only when she had reached the balcony of the palace from where she could overlook most of the capital.
She stopped and stumbled back immediately at the sight.
It was around the middle of the night and she was still awake to discuss strategies with her brother. Conquering another Kingdom was not an easy task that could be done by anyone which is why they had been going to bed late every day.
No one had ever imagined it to be. Annatasia remembered their faces very well. She was the one who had sent them after all.
"What is the meaning of this?" She hissed as She watched people gather around the naked bodies of the dead men. "How?" They were trained Guards from Lethoris.
They were lethal and they could do anything but now they were there and it only added more to her fear.
"How?" She whispered again, unable to believe it.
"Get them under control." She heard her brother command someone and then step closer to her. The people were circling around but the Guards were sending them away before more could gather around.
"Whom did you send them after?" She heard her brother whisper softly to her.
"Genevieve." She said,
His head whipped to her immediately. "What?" He barked. "Had you not told the king that you had given him two weeks?"
"I did." She admitted.
"And how could you be a fool to send assassins after the girl? Had the king not made it clear to you that he was having her reside in his palace? Do you have any idea what this retaliation from him means?" He hissed with blazing eyes. Enemies were dangerous but enemies that were unknown were to be feared.
She turned to him calmly and blinked her eyes as if nothing was out of the ordinary. "What is the meaning of this behaviour brother? Do you doubt our capability to defend ourselves?"
He shook his head, "do not try to change the topic and do not be arrogant, Annatasia. Arrogance is the downfall. The Kingdom that is yet to be explored is dangerous and should be feared."
She turned her head and looked back at the men who was now being taken down by guards. "Do not worry. We perfectly defend—"
Her eyes widened when she was interrupted with the long horn. Multiple of them.
Multiple at the same time and they sounded distant which only meant one thing.
"We are under attack." Her brother concluded who was standing next to her.
