Chapter 106: The nightmare wedding - I

I was wrong. The restlessness that I thought had subsided still remained in my heart intact. And it returned the moment I looked at the white wedding dress.

I gulped and closed my eyes hurriedly. Why was I feeling this now? I had been prepared for this all my life and now I felt like taking a step back and learning from it all.

"We must get ready now, Your highness," Merilyn came into the room with a smile on her face. She had been happier since we came back. "You must be prepared for the wedding before your father arrives."

My father was a guest now just as I had been in his Kingdom. A guest that had overstayed her welcome.

I sighed and went to the bath, where I was groomed like a lamb.

I said on the far side of the tub as I watched her prepare the bath along with two more maids. Today I was getting married which is why I was bathing with pure milk along with flower petals and luxurious oils. All that in the event was going to be washed off from my body.

"How did it feel when you fell for Allan?" I asked you without looking at her. My eyes remained at the petals of Rose. The same flower that Tristan liked and the same flower that prince Terence was giving to his beloved.

I did not want to think of the possibility that Tristan was here. He must be too weak to travel. When I had seen him last, he was barely conscious, almost asleep. I wondered if he remembered that i had visited him.

She hummed thoughtfully and a stupid smile came to her face. "I don’t know where to begin, but perhaps it was in his absence that I felt I needed him more. Maybe it was that he knew how to make me laugh and he was the perfect gentleman that never crossed the boundaries." She shook her head and sighed again.

" I think love just happens. One never has any kind of control over it and so did I. I think it was the moment I met him I was attracted to him but I knew I was undeniably feeling something towards him when I got to know him during the journey."

She felt it for him what I felt for Tristan. But I had gotten her married, was it right?

I sighed and looked at her again. " Do you think that marrying him so soon might be a mistake? Do you hold it against me? Did it because I asked you to?" I blurted out all of my questions at once.

"I do not think so," he replied immediately and turned to look at me. She placed the jug of milk on the floor and sat beside me covering my hand with us. "Ladies in waiting are never expected to get married. Princesses or queens usually do not allow them because they trust them truly. You gave me the opportunity to marry someone that I find to be an extraordinary man and I am grateful for that."

" You have to tell him the truth one day. I am The Princess and he would have to stay here for all his life to be married to you. Or you will have to leave me." I muttered sadly as I remembered that she would have to shift with him or he would have to come here. That was something I did not think while prioritising happiness over mine.

"We’ll talk it out." She waved it off, "Come on."

The bath was long. And for the first time I did not enjoy it. Bathing with milk was not a delicacy enjoyed by princes frequently and whenever they did they usually enjoyed it to the fullest but I did not feel like that. It felt like a chore that I was doing.

I tear slipped my eye and I hurriedly whipped it as they brought the dress near. They held out for me to wear and I without any feelings in my heart Borat. The crown of the princess of Astria rested in front of me on the table as I wondered how long I had wanted to wear it.

I scoffed, the cruel game that fate played.

"Princess," Merylin sat down on the floor and neared my ear, "almost every gas is here. The queen wants me to tell you that the the king and queen along with their first and second son of Lethoris is here. In fact even the kingdom of South has appeared, the north as usual has been unreachable and only your father came."

I frowned immediately, refusing to believe the possibility. " What do you mean only my father came? And was Prince Tomas not unwell?"

She gulped, " no one else has come. It was only your father and his wife that arrived from your side of the family. The first Prince has come and he does not look sick."

" Forget the sickness!" I snapped at her. " Tell me honestly, did you see anyone apart from them or not? Even Estelle, did she not come too?" There must be someone who came. I refused to believe the fact that no one came for me, for my wedding that was practically making the kingdom prosper. How could they?

She was silent with eyes filled with regret. "I’m sorry." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

" Sorry?" I scoffed and looked away to where the emerald crown sat. "None of them came?"

I had never felt true betrayal before this. How could none of them come? I felt like balling my eyes out at this. How could none of them come? I have expected more from Estelle than this. She should have tried harder even if father refused.

She should have been there. I was going to make sure that she would become queen and this is how they repay me?

I bit my lip to stop it from trembling. How could they? "Really? None, none of them came?"

She shook her head again and I felt like dying. This was the worst betrayal. The fact that prince terrence already had someone lose with a child did not seem so heartbreaking anymore.

"So, i am a guest everywhere," in my own home and where i am not marrying. I was just a guest.

I did not say anything anymore and plate like a doll, they dressed me up, placed ornaments on me and applied red rogue to my face. The crown was left nie and I loathed it.

"The king is here," Merilyn whispered into my ear, "come, we must meet him outside."

I almost stumbled when I stood up. The weight of the dress was underestimated by me. It was too heavy.

I walked to him without the veil and stood in front of him. He was here, but I felt like telling him to his face that I did not even need him here. For all I cared now, he could go away.

"You look beautiful." he smiled and for the first time it did not seem malicious or political.

I nodded in gratitude, "like mother?" he nodded, "do you think he would kill me too to marry someone else?" I heard Merlyn gasp. "Would you do something about it? For your daughter, a princess, would you do something if he kills me like you did to mother?"

His gentle expression changed into a furious one and he almost raised his hand to hit me. "Genevieve, dont." he growled, "You do not want to have a hand imprint on your face today."

I laughed at that. "What are you scared of? That the world will see you for who you are?"

He raised his hand at that, his control finally snapping, "Gene-"

"Your highness,’’ Merilyn came in front of me and placed her hands in defense, "PLease, the princess is overwhelmed. I shall make her see sense." she said with her head bowed in front him here as i did not bother to stop glaring at him.

He clenched his jaw and klet, stomping his foot like a toddler when denied something.

"What is wrong with you?" she turned around and i saw anger brewing in her eyes, "why would do that?"

Why would I do that? "Because no one is here for me!" I yelled at the top of my voice letting my father hear it too. "No one came for me and he wont have too but he did, he had to, to save face!" I pointed to the door beyond which he stood. I hated all of them. How could they do this to me when I had left everything I know for them?

"I could run away too, live like a commoner forever, b-but I am living here, marrying someone for them." I sniffed and managed to whisper out before a sob broke out.

"Enough of this," he came in again and this time the gentle expression was gone. "I will not have you be hysterical today. Get ready and if you don’t," he sneered and looked at Merilyn, "I will have her whipped."

The threat was clear and the quickened riser and fall in Merilyn’s chest told me that she was scared too.

"Bring the crown and the veil." I told her, I was getting married after all. The life long dream had just turned to be a nightmare.
