Chapter 105: A restless mind- II

I felt excitement brush through me, through my entire body as I walked out of the palace. It was first of the moment I stepped out and away from the palace walls, I felt like a free bird no longer shackled even though I knew this was just for sometime.

The feeling was beautiful. I could not even begin to describe it.

Like last time and I had exited the servants entrance and exit it was because of what I wanted to do for my country. This time it was not any obligation as felt but something I wanted to do for myself.

"Hurry and enjoy. We have to get back before they notice." Merilyn whispered to me. " Do you want to eat something? We do not want you to have your stomach upset. It would not look nice."

" Oh, Hush," I waved her off. " My stomach will be fine." That is if the butterflies try to settle down in my stomach. They were running around in circles.

It was all of peaceful and beautiful. I sighed, my mind cactus and it was no longer caged by the palace walls where I knew I had to spend the rest of my life.

"Merilyn," I called with a smile on her face, "have you ever fallen in love?" I waited for an answer, looking at her. Even though Marilyn was employed by the king she still needed my permission to get married. Ladies in waiting even though were employed by the king often died as spinsters because they had devoted their entire life to the princess of the royal family or someone they worked for.

"What?" She blushed and looked away. "What kind of question is that?" She hissed, as if offended.

I giggled. "That means you did!" I held her elbow, " Tell me! Tell me!"

" What has gotten into you? Usually it is I who talks like this. For the first time you are talking nonsense." She frowned and instead of getting off and I merely laughed at her.

"I do not know," I shrugged my shoulders, wondering about it myself. Why had I certainly felt so good question mark in the palace I felt like someone was caging me inside and I felt seal for my life but now I felt free. "I just do not know what happened. But you tell me."

She bit her lip nervously and looked around. " I do not know what love is but if I remember my mother and father and how they looked at each other I think I sell something for All—"

"Is that Allan?" My eyes caught the sight of a familiar man bargaining for fruits with the vendor. "Allan!" I called out and he looked my way immediately.

"Princess!" Merilyn hissed in anger, "what are you—"

"Layla, how are you?" He bowed his head in a greeting as soon as he neared us. His eyes met Merylin’s and for a moment, I saw them softening. "Merilyn."

"Allan." She softly took his name but looked away.

What?

What was going on in between them?

"What? Do you to have something to talk about? If you want to talk I can leave—"

"Yes, please,"

"No, no,"

They both answered at the same time and I watched both of them. So Allan wanted me to leave and Marilyn did not.

I looked at both of them, "tell me," I said with a sigh, "what is happening?"

Allan stared at Marilyn expectantly where Marilyn, on the other hand, looked everywhere else as if ignoring his gaze. She disregarded him completely and when Allen had enough of it he turned to look at me.

"Marilyn and I spent the night together after I revealed my feelings for her. Not only did she inform me about her eyes we had thought of thinking of a future together as well and imagined my surprise only to find out that she had left the very next morning."

" Oh!" My hand came to my mouth in surprise. A man and a woman spending the night together was not uncommon before marriage. But I have never taken Marilyn as someone to do that. Married and had thought of a feature with someone else? Allan?

"Allan?" He looked and I spoke, "could you excuse us for a few moments. I would like to talk to Marilyn alone."

"Would you runaway?" He asked and I was a bit surprised at the frankness he had asked me.

"No." I answered him truthfully. His eyes darted from mine to Merylin. And then, when convinced, he nodded.

I grabbed her hand and pulled her away. When I was sure that he won’t be able to hear me, I stopped. "What did you do?"

She shook her head with tearful eyes, "I didn’t mean to. " She said immediately.

I knew why she was crying. For any such decisions she was required to take my permission first especially when the tower of marriage came.

" Merilyn," I gently patted her cheek, " do you want to marry him? Tell me what you feel."

She gulped and her lower lip trembled. She threw him a quick glance, who was watching us with elevated eyes as ready for us to run away.

She nodded, bowing her head ashamed about it all.

"Let’s get you married then."

"What?" Her head quickly came up.

"Yes," I smiled and pinched her cheek lovingly, "I do not know whether I want this marriage anymore or not. But I do know that I would have to do it out of duty. You want to marry for love and I want you to go through with it."

"B-but," she bit her lip, "I want to marry him. Should I?" She looked unsure at the last part but she did love him.

"Love happens." I shrugged and called the man over. "Let’s get you married."

Turns out, Allan was a friend of the magistrate and before the day started they could get married.

I was a witness of the small wedding and so were two other people along with him.

I smiled at the happiness Merilyn felt. She hid it all from me and I would ask why but for now, I had settled my heart a little bit in her happiness.
