Chapter 56: The Princess Strikes Back (2)

Aofie felt every part of her body tingling with spiritual energy. The lighting danced through her body, digging into her flesh and igniting every part of it.

She felt as though if she exhaled she would breathe out lighting, her mind was sharp, her body excited and her muscles firm.

Wise cut through the air with his hand, in one devastating vertical chop, but Aofie met his strike with a high kick.

Boom!

The air ripped with sparks as a small shockwave spread through the Arena.

Despite her beaten up body and bruised face, Aofie found herself smiling when she stared at Xanthos. Who would have known that fighting him would be this fun?

Out of fear for her mother most warriors often restrained themselves when going against her, but not Xanthos...

Xanthos was a menace, he was an uncultured brute who would hit women with the same intensity as he would do a man.

And she loved it.

"Can you handle what you handle in store for you?!" Aofie screamed, her eyes lighting up in excitement.

Xanthos smiled, his fist and her leg still

pushing against each other. "I can handle you princess, all parts of you." He said with a sly smile on his face.

"Very well!" Just as they disengaged, Aofie jumped backward and raised her hands up as though she wanted to reach for the clouds.

[Lighting Blade!]

Summoning the power of her skill, the sky darkened for a moment, the wind picked up and lightning crackled in the atmosphere.

The crowd watched the skies in awe, expecting it to rain at any moment, but it was not water that fell...

No, it rained lightning.

Booom!

Aofie lifted her hand and immediately, a large bolt of lightning penetrated the barrier and charged down, crashing into Aofie’s hands.

Immediately the lightning made contact, Aofie felt a surge of energy fill her bones. It was as though all her spent spiritual energy had been restored once again, nourishing her spirit.

With a mischievous smile, Aofie took the first step, lightning spreading through her feet.

In her hand, a solid blade made purely out of lightning was rippling with energy, ready to bring with it a wave of destruction.

"I hope you take this one seriously, Xanthos. This blade can cleave even the mountains themselves."

Xanthos stared at the blade in a strange manner, it was almost as though he wanted it for himself, like he coveted her abilities.

He smiled wide as the shadows began to embrace him. "Tell me princess..." he began as they both walked towards each other. "What is it that you fear?"

Princess Aofie scowled as she waved her sword. "A warrior has no fear!"

Xanthos laughed. "That is where you’re getting it wrong my dear. You see, even the strongest warriors fear, that is what drives them to grow stronger. "

His fists once again began to glow with the shadows that oddly resembled flames and the shadows began to stir around him.

"Don’t worry, after today... you’ll have something to fear."

The shadows shot forward, twisting themselves into black spikes as they charged towards Aofie. She slashed at the shadows, ripping them to shreds before she dashed towards him.

Lighting clashed with the shadows—

Aofie’s sword was tearing through the shadows with ease, rending the tendrils to pieces—but that was not the problem, the tendrils were unending.

For each tendril she destroyed, five more would appear, causing her to continually strive in vain.

She needed to attack it at the source, she needed to take out Xanthos.

But that too was a problem, Xanthos had become like a shadow, switching through the darkness with ease.

With a frustrated scream, Aofie lashed forward, sending a wave of lightning that obliterated the shadows, revealing Xanthos within them.

She closed the distance between them and brought her blade down with a thunderous slash.

Xanthos smoothly evaded the strike, and the sword crashed to the floor.

Boom!

The ground caved open, causing everyone to stare wide-eyed. From that simple attack, a small crater was now created on the floor.

"You were going to hit me with that?" Xanthos asked from behind her.

Aofie lashed out, managing to catch him in the chest. "It’s nothing you can’t handle dear."

The lightning raced around his body, paralysing him in place.

Aofie did not relent, she increased the intensity of the strike, pouring even more spiritual energy and as a result more lightning into his body.

Xanthos’ black hair flared outward as the currents danced through them, he gritted his teeth in pain, his whole body encased in a bright golden glow.

And then he smiled.

’What the hell?’

Even though he was meant to be in intense pain, Xanthos was smiling.

Aofie could feel her energy quickly running dry so she pulled her sword back and jumped a few feet backward.

’He should not be able to move for a few seconds at least.’

’I’ll finish him with this next move!!’

Aofie swung her blade in the air, rotating it with her fingers—

And at the same time, she sent a jolt of lightning through her body, pushing herself to move faster than she had ever done before.

Her legs were encased in lightning, her eyes were burning brightly and her sword glowing with destructive currents.

Aofie pointed the tip of her blade forward and charged.

The wind blew past her ears forcibly from the speed at which she was moving, the ground felt like fire beneath her feet and her heart thundered in her chest from over exhaustion.

’I will beat you Xanthos!’ She screamed in her mind as her sword cut forward.

But to her surprise, Xanthos sidestepped the attack.

"How can you move?!" She screamed in frustration, but it was already far too late.

A large shadow tentacle wrapped itself around her waist like a rope and pulled her back, it sent her flying high up into the air, almost touching the barrier and yet it did not let her go.

And soon Aofie knew why, on the ground, Xanthos had taken a stance, his knees were bent and his hand was cradling his right fist.

In that fist were wild shadows, expanding to become something even more dreadful.

It was terrifying.

The tendrils began to pull her back, right toward Xanthos.

Aofie shouted in anger, trying to summon her lightning to break its hold, but she had run out of energy—the lightning sword had fizzled away as well

So all she could do was watch...

Boom!

A cataclysmic strike clashed into her with the weight of a thousand blows. The shadows washed over her, engulfing her figure in their dark embrace.

What was left of her armour cracked and busted to pieces, serving its purpose of protecting her even till the end.

Aofie felt as though her insides had been turned inside out, strength fled her muscles and her body felt lifeless, soon her vision was encroached by darkness.

’I... lost?’ Aofie wondered, as the void swallowed her up.
