Chapter 57: A Deal is a Deal

’Shit!’ Wise cursed as Aofie’s body fell onto him. ’Did I just kill her?’

[Why the fuck did you hit her that hard?!]

The System screamed in his head, the panic evident in its voice.

’I didn’t think she would die! She was wearing a relic!’

[You didn’t think she would die?! What kind of excuse is that?]

[Brace yourself for failing your mission! Temporary stat restriction for a month!]

The crowd watched him with shock as he tried to prevent Aofie from looking as dead as she currently did.

Killing the princess of a kingdom was a grave sin no matter his status, already, the guards were pulling the gate open to assault him.

[Oh wait... she’s alive]

Wise quickly placed his finger on her neck and felt for a pulse. Relief immediately flooded him and he slumped to the floor, the princess in his arms.

He waved his hands toward the crowd and smiled. "Fret not, your princess is alive!"

The crowd stared at him for a moment longer before they erupted in cheers.

"My goodness, I thought he killed her right then and there!" One of the fans shouted at his neighbour.

"The princess really took such a blow as survived, I would be dead if I took that head on."

"Fool, you would be dead from just coming a few inches away from that attack!"

As the crowd was shouting and screaming their praises for both Wise and the princess, three people in attendance were sitting quietly.

Daphne glanced at Freya, her eyes sending a quiet command. The latter nodded and brought her fingers together, sweat dripping down her head as she concentrated on the task at hand.

"Whew!" The announcer screamed, wiping his face with a piece of cloth. "That match had me at the edge of my seat! What a fabulous way to bring the pier games to a fabulous close!"

The shield above the stadium shimmered and shattered and the announcer lowered his stange until he stood beside Wise and the princess.

He walked up to Wise and brought his microphone to Wise’s lips.

"Mr Xanthos, you not only cleared a pack of monsters, battled a sorcerer and beat the favourite to win this event. You have now beaten the two year champion as well..."

"What do you have to say to all your fans who have cheered you on for so long?"

Wise smiled and brought his lips to the mic then her turned to glance at the queen and said, "Well, I’ll be taking my princess with me now."

The crowd went silent.

"What the hell is he talking about?"

"Take who? The princess is mine to Marry!" Another man screamed.

"Shut up fool, the queen will have you head for such statements!"

As murmurs began to circulate through the arena, the announcer paused, a look of confusion on his face. "I’m sorry, I don’t think I quite understand—"

Wise’s eyes flickered, transforming from his human round pupils to Draconic slits. The announcer yelled and stumbled back, running toward the gate.

Wise was not foolish enough to think that just because he won their bet the queen would let him go with her daughter. No, she would never let him have her...

That was why he had planned for this moment since the very beginning, a situation when the princess was helpless and then the guards were too far away.

The queen hurried over to the edge of her platform and peered down, her eyes widening as she saw what was happening.

Whoosh!

Discarding his humanity, Wise expanded, his body blossoming to his true dragon might. His hands broadened and stretched, becoming colossal—

Sharp claws took the place of his nails, his head enlarged and razor sharp teeth filled his maw.

Finally, a long tail spanning meters emerged from his back, followed by huge wings that cast a shadow over the arena floor

"Ahhh," Wise let out a satisfied sigh. "It feels so good to be back in my original form!"

His voice thundered over the arena, causing all who heard it to cower in fear.

"D-Dragon!!" The guards at the gate shouted as they raced forward, roping to carry Princess Aofie away from the beast.

But they did not make it far as a tail swipe sent them crashing into the wall.

’Now for my real problem...’

Just as Wise had anticipated, the queen stood at the edge of the wall in her observation room.

And then she jumped...

As her body soared through the air, the queen raised her mace, the deadly weapon glowing with calamitous energy.

But just as she inched closer to wise—

[Draconic Breath!]

Whoosh!

A surge of intense blue flames exploded outwards like a violent river, crashing into the queen and pushing her back.

The arena suddenly became overcome by a sweltering heat that enclosed the arena like a cocoon.

Queen Agatha did not relent, she was still pushing through the flames, her body mostly undamaged by the smothering inferno.

And so Wise increased its intensity....

The blue flames began to glow even brighter, concentrating to a single point to unleash untold devastation.

With one final push, the fire exploded like a bomb, blasting the queen far away from the arena.

As the crowd was panicking, hurrying to get away from the arena. Daphne screamed, "Now!"

Before the guards watching them could realize what was happening, their seats suddenly vibrated as though possessed and turned, carrying them in different directions.

Freya moved her hands forward and the path in front of them cleared. The chairs turned and sped out of the way, carrying a couple of people along with them, and then the floor smoothed like a ramp.

Their seats then slid through this ramp like a child would do a slide, racing towards Wise.

As for Wise, he picked the princess up with his finger and lifted her into the air.

One of the guards walked up to him, his sword raised. "Put down the princess you vile beast!"

Without paying the man any attention, Wise tossed the prices high up into the air and opened his mouth wide.

Chump!

Wise locked his jaws around the unconscious woman.

The guard screamed, just before fainting, unable to process what had just happened.

By his side, chairs had finally reached him, carrying the girls in them with Freya at the front sweating profusely.

"You did well Freya," Wise said as she stumbled towards him smiling.

He offered them his tail and they quickly used it to climb up to his back.

"Hold on tight!" Wise cautioned as he flapped his massive wings, lifting them off the ground and into the sky.

Boom!

The arena gates were blown open and the queen stepped through the rubble, her eyes scanning the area.

Most of her clothes were burnt off by his fire, leaving only a few shredded pieces hanging loosely on her body.

Seeing that there was nobody there, she looked up and scowled when her eyes met him, her mace held tightly in her palms.

But it was already too late, Wise had kidnapped her daughter and taken her along with him.

"A deal is a deal!" Wise laughed, his voice booming towards her as he soared deeper into the clouds.

[And then there were four!]

The system said, its voice full of mirth.
