Chapter 51: Potion Shopping

Freya stepped into the scandalous potion shop and took a moment to observe the room.

It was similar to most potion shops she had entered. There was a counter by the side of the room, which the apothecary normally stood behind, but there was no one there at the moment.

On the tall wooden shelves at the side were a variety of weird plants and animal parts. Bark, roots, leaves and flowers.

This assortment gave the room a pungent smell Freya was so fond of.

At the other side of the room, aligned on the shelves were an assortment of oddly colored liquids, the potions that apothecaries were so proud of.

Freya was about to step deeper into the shop when someone suddenly grabbed her shoulders and pushed her forward, almost causing her to scream.

Behind her was a woman with bright pink eyes, wavy pale blonde hair and a contagious smile. She was a human, not an Ork like most people in the city.

"W-who are you?" Freya asked, her tone slightly elevated.

"Me? I’m the person you’re looking for of course, didn’t you come here to buy a potion?"

Freya nodded as the woman urged her deeper into the room, only stopping when they got to the counter.

"I need three bottles of—"

"Shhhhhhhh." The apothecary placed a finger on Freya’s lips, silencing her. Then she smiled, her eyes narrowed as she watched her.

"I know what you’re here for."

Freya placed her hand on the table, her eyes sparkling. "You do??"

The apothecary nodded with a confident smile on her face.

’I heard apothecaries were good, but I didn’t think they would be this good...’

"First of all I’ll introduce myself, my name is Kiko and I am the head apothecary of this establishment," she said smugly.

"I am Freya, you said you know what I need?" Freya asked, eager to leave the shop quickly.

’This is all Daphne’s fault!’

Last night, Daphne was brought back to the queen’s place by Taryn, looking all beaten up. No matter how many she and Esme asked, neither Taryn nor Daphne agreed to tell them what happened.

It was obvious that they were trying to hide some sort of secret but was she really not trustworthy enough?

She could understand not telling Esme since they hadn’t known her for long, but even after asking her while Esme was absent, she still refused to speak.

And yet just this morning she basically begged her to get healing potions so that she could cover her injuries from Wise!

Freya forgot herself and pouted, staring at the apothecary angrily.

Kiko nervously scratched her head. "Did I say anything wrong?"

"Oh no, no, no. I was just remembering something."

Kiko smiled, "I understand how you feel."

"You do?" Freya was getting more and more curious about the expressive woman.

"Every woman does at some point. I mean, they are always grumpy all the time, they keep secrets and are always out late at night!"

Freya leaned onto the counter, her hands lying to her mouth. "H-How did you know?!"

’Can she somehow read minds?’

Kiko laughed and bent down below the counter. "I’m an expert, that is how!" She said as she stood up with a book in hand.

"Before we get to your prescription, I need you to glance through this book and tell me which one you prefer. Who knows, it might just be part of the problem."

The book she placed in front of Freya was large, about fifteen inches in length and ten inches in breadth. It was old and worn out, with visible marks left by dust padding its corners.

Unlike most books, there was no title, just a dark brown cover with no description whatsoever.

"How will this help me?"

’Was it some sort of catalogue for healing potions?’

Kiko smiled and motioned towards the book, "You’ll know as soon as you open it."

"Okay..." Freya said, unsure of the apothecary’s motives.

She opened the first page of the book and sucked in a sharp breath before stumbling back a few steps and landing on her butt.

"S-S-Seggs?!"

The book was filled with various lewd positions, things that were difficult to put into words.

Freya’s face felt on fire and her cheeks had turned as red as a strawberry. "W-What is the meaning of this?"

The apothecary smiled and closed the book. "Don’t be shy, we all do this at some point in our lives. Don’t tell me you haven’t done it with him?"

Daphne gasped. "Done what?! I haven’t done anything ever!"

Kiko paused, then her expression turned to one of shock. "Never?! My goodness, then we have our work cut out for us."

She bent down under her counter again and came back up with a bowl of a suspicious aromatic liquid and a brush.

Kiko placed the brush into the liquid and began sprinkling it around the room.

’Did I walk into the shop of a pervert?’

Freya was new to this city, she did not know any good apothecary so she had taken the advice of an old woman she saw on the street.

’W-What have I gotten myself into?’

Freya crossed her arms over her chest and began to slowly walk back.

"What are you even doing? What is going on? Freya asked, confused.

"It’s a normal practice, I’m invoking the goddess of lust!"

"Oh... I see."

Freya quickly turned and ran towards the door, she grabbed the doorknob with both hands and hurriedly pulled it but—-

Click!

’Why is the door locked?!’

"I locked the door to prevent anyone from walking in on us when we get busy! Come over here, let’s get started!"

Freya paled and slowly turned around. A shiver ran through her spine as she looked around the room, searching for something heavy enough to use as a weapon.

Kiko was getting impatient, she reached below the cabinet and pulled out a club which she placed on the table, followed by two large potions.

Freya began to hyperventilate.

Kiko frowned. "What are you doing over there? Don’t you want to snatch the heart of your lover?"

"Heh?"

"Heh?"

"Hehhhhhhh????"
