The Princess Kidnapping System Made Me OP-Chapter 35: Gang Up
Chapter 35: Gang Up
The bell that had been specially brought for the finals rang, a loud thunderous sound that indicated the start of the match—and yet nobody moved.
Each warrior remained in their position, observing the other with a keen eye.
Wise had seen both of them fight at least once and so he knew the gist of their abilities just as they knew his.
His gaze first landed on the sage, the sorcerer...
In this world, an affinity was an element you naturally aligned with, this affinity was indicative of the kind of ability you would develop.
An ability was a person’s unique gift that gave them the power to manipulate their spiritual essence to produce supernatural results. Daphne’s shadow manipulation was an excellent example of this.
And finally, Skills were specialised applications of a person’s abilities that could be learned after achieving different levels of mastery over their ability as well as affinities.
That was the normal way of things, but sorcerers were different...
Sorcerers only had affinities but lacked an ability and a skill, instead, they relied on bending the elements to their will through spells that often required a medium.
An example of such a medium was the staff Akaza held in his hands.
As for Mr Anonymous, there was little to know about him save for the fact that he often pummelled his enemies with pure strength alone.
Rarely did he ever rely on his ability or skill.
Rotating the daggers in his fingers, Wise took his stance, Anonymous unsheathed his odachi while the old man pushed his staff forward.
Realistically, Wise’s first target would be the sage. He made use of ranged attacks so if Wise could get close enough, he would easily dispatch him and have some time alone with the tin can.
Just as Wise was about to charge, something strange happened—
The sage began walking toward Mr anonymous and when he got to him he stood behind his back.
"Not to be that guy but an alliance against you is only fair don’t you think, Xanthos?" The sage asked, a sly smile on his face.
’So that is how it’s going to be...’
Wise brought his hand to his face and shook his head slightly. "So you’re going to take the coward’s way out?"
The sage shrugged. "Better be a coward and win, when we’ve dealt with you, me and Mr Anonymous here can duke it out ourselves."
Mr Anonymous remained silent.
The sage slowly lifted his staff into the air. "Alright then, shall we begin?"
"Grand Thunder Cast, Tonitiru Pladere."
The normally clear blue sky suddenly darkened, grey clouds swirling above as though to announce a storm.
The wind picked up around them and Akaza’s staff began to vibrate in his hands, there was a spark and then the currents suddenly appeared, rippling through the staff and licking the wood in his palm.
With a dark smile on his face, he lifted the staff forward and unleashed the lightning.
Boom!
The air rippled, the lighting leaving dark marks on the floor as it shot forward at blinding speed.
Wise sidestepped the strike, dodging to the left. As the lightning whistled past him, Wise felt all the hair on his body stand still.
Instead of exploding against the wall behind, the lighting curved around, changing its path halfway and charging right at his back.
"Neat trick," Wise said, moments away from
being electrocuted. He leaped to the side, tucking in his stomach—but the lighting still managed to grace his shirt, burning the part it touched into ash.
Completely evading the lighting would be difficult. Not only was it hard to predict its path, just merely touching it would lead to catastrophic consequences.
He dashed away from the lightning stream but with a simple wave of his staff, Akaza commanded the lightning to give chase.
Wise turned around briefly to glance at the lighting before coming to a halt. He twisted his body and the lighting howled to the side, curving around to strike him like a snake.
Bzzzz!
Sparks crackled in the air as Wise struck the lighting with his dagger, the lighting bounced back slightly, just before charging again.
He ducked underneath the lightning stream, took three hurried steps back after which he stamped his feet into the ground with a deafening boom.
The ground caved, rocks spewed out of the hole and Wise grabbed onto one of them, a rock as large as his torso.
Lighting was not like other elements, if he managed to disrupt the flow long enough it would lose form and erupt...
Holding tightly onto the rock, Wise sucked in a breath and launched it with a thunderous force.
Boom!
Mistaking the rock for its target, the lighting imploded on impact with the rock, vaporising it as scattering debris in all directions.
Wise let out a tired breath.
That was just the first spell out of his collection and yet it was so troublesome. Already, the old sage was already waving staff in the air.
His lips moved in an indescribable manner as he muttered words foreign to Wise, his eyes staring right into the sky the entire time.
"Sea of ash, Tempura!"
A wave of wind exploded in a circularly, violently tossing anything that was around him away, but Wise stood his ground, his eyes squinted slightly as he stared ahead.
Behind him a darkness began to emerge, one so large that it could enclose the entire stage.
With a wave of his hand, the sea of ash collapsed on the floor and then it moved forward, tumbling above the ground like the aftereffects of an atomic bomb.
Wise did not falter, instead of finding a way to avoid the flood, he charged right towards it and just as his feet were seconds away from touching it, he leaped into the air, soaring right towards the sage.
’Wind and Lightning huh?’ I’ve got you all figured out.’ He raised his dagger by his side, ready to deliver a devastating slash when Mr anonymous stepped in front of him.
He heaved his odachi backward and swung it in a huge arc. The air parted as a wave of golden light surged from the blade, creating a line of devastation capable of splitting whatever stood in its path.
There was nowhere to dodge to, Wise was in the air so he had no footing.
But he had his shadows—
Shadow tendrils shot out from the shadow of the armoured man, wrapping around Wise’s waist and pulling him right to Mr Anonymous’ side almost instantaneously.
Taking advantage of his blinding speed, Wise drove his dagger forward, right toward the shoulder of the man.
But before his dagger could even get remotely close to him, there was a red glow and the space between them erupted.
Wise jumped backward immediately his eyes caught a red glow but when he did.
Drip Drip
He reached for his face only to draw back blood, for the second time in the tournament, Wise had been once again made to bleed.
