The Path Of A True King.-Chapter 29: Elijah leaving.
Chapter 69
The three of them sat in the ice cream shop at the corner, chatting as they ate their ice cream.
Kim was the one leading the conversation.
"New Year’s is just a few days away. What are you planning on doing?" she asked Elijah.
Mai shrugged. "You know very well I don’t like parties, and you don’t like them either, so why do you even care about New Year’s?"
Kim pouted. "It’s boring to spend New Year’s with just one friend, so I wanted to change things up."
Mai snorted. "So, I’m boring, huh? Then you’ll have no friends on New Year’s."
Kim chuckled before replying, "It’s not like I dislike parties, it’s just that I need someone to go with. And since you said you aren’t dating Elijah, I might just steal him from you." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Elijah smiled, taking a bite of his chocolate ice cream. "I’m not a fan of parties either. It’s boring being surrounded by people who drink and smoke. I just feel uncomfortable."
Kim pouted again. "Yeah, who wouldn’t? But it’s better if you have someone nearby to share the experience with, you know?"
Mai and Kim exchanged glances, speaking telepathically in their own way.
"What are you doing?" Mai questioned with her eyes.
Kim looked back with a knowing expression. "Obviously, I’m trying to make him like me."
Mai shook her head. "You’re just trying to force someone to like you. That won’t work."
Kim leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. "Okay, you also have some feelings for him, don’t you?
Be honest.
Elijah is a good person in general, sexy as hell, doesn’t care about anyone except a select few, and right now, he’s heartbroken.
Let me step in and heal his heart. Simple as that. You’re not making a move, so I will."
Mai gave her a questioning look. "Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? Elijah should be the one chasing you, not the other way around."
Kim nodded. "That’s true, but what’s stopping me from going for him first?
He’d be my first boyfriend, and he’s the type of guy my brother would actually approve of.
You understand, right?"
Mai sighed. "Do whatever you want."
Kim smirked. "Just don’t be jealous when he chooses me."
Mai didn’t respond.
Elijah, who had been watching their silent exchange, frowned in confusion but shrugged it off.
"Alright, instead of a party, how about this? Name a place you’ve always wanted to go but never did."
Kim perked up. "A place, huh...?"
Elijah turned to Mai. "What about you? Any place in mind?"
Mai hesitated before answering. "Well, there’s this place my dad promised to take me before he died. It’s called Tournament Rise."
"Oh yeah, isn’t that the event where the three schools that train in Mana and Ki battle it out?" Elijah asked.
Mai nodded. "Yeah, that’s the one. I always watch it on TV, so when my dad told me he’d take me to see it in person, I was beyond excited."
Elijah smiled as he looked at her. "It’s rare to find a girl who loves fighting as much as you do."
Mai averted her gaze. "What do you mean?"
"Every time Jack and I spar, you’re always there watching. You train at night with Kai, and in the morning with Jack or Tristan. Whenever you’re training, you seem... alive. Like something straight out of a movie."
Mai glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "You really pay that much attention?"
Elijah nodded. "Yeah, after what happened to Lucas, I started paying more attention to everyone."
Mai smiled slightly. "I know it’s weird for a girl to love fighting, but the rush of it... it’s something I can’t explain with words.
I know I’ll never be better than Kai, you, Jack, or the others, but I’m part of the group too.
Managing finances is useful, but it’s not what I truly want."
Elijah raised an eyebrow. "Then why didn’t you want Lucas and me to fight back then?"
Mai lowered her head. "Because it’s not good for friends or people working together to fight each other. It just creates a rift between the only friends I have."
Elijah smiled. "So, you consider me a friend?"
Mai nodded, and Elijah locked eyes with her. "You know, ’weird’ and ’strange’ are just other words for ’unique.’ You’re unique, extremely so. Don’t ever listen to anyone who says otherwise."
Mai blushed, and before she could say anything, Kim groaned. "I have nothing! Am I really that boring?!"
Mai smirked. "Yes."
Kim stuck her tongue out at her, snorting.
Elijah chuckled. "How about this—we travel to different places and enjoy ourselves. That way, we can discover new places to visit or new activities to do."
Kim beamed. "Okay then, it’s a date!"
Elijah finished his ice cream and got up. "Alright, time for me to head out."
"Why now?" both Kim and Mai asked at the same time.
Elijah was taken aback. "Damn, what more do you want to talk about?" he thought to himself before sighing. "I’ve got something to do."
He looked at Mai. "See you tomorrow."
Then he turned to Kim. "Goodbye, Kim. I’ll talk to you on the phone."
As Elijah walked away, Kim pouted. "Where do you think he’s going?"
Mai watched him for a moment before answering, "He’s going home. I remember him mentioning taking his mom and sister out to dinner."
Kim nodded. "I wish I had gotten his number instead of just giving him mine."
Mai chuckled. "What do you even like about Elijah, anyway?"
Kim sighed. "Because I finally understand why Lisa was so obsessed with him."
Mai raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Kim simply smiled. "He moves with respect."
Mai looked confused. "What the heck does that mean?"
Kim shook her head. "You’ll never understand. Anyway, let’s go to my place. I have this dress that’ll make you jealous."
Mai groaned. "I hate rich kids."
Kim laughed. "That’s just one of the perks of being the mayor’s daughter. Also, I bought some cute outfits for you too."
Mai chuckled. "Do you think Elijah even knows you’re the mayor’s daughter?"
Kim smirked. "Nope. He was super relaxed, so I don’t think so."
