Serya and the others were confused. Suddenly, Alvaric disappeared. Serya and Velka tried to search for Alvaric’s presence using their detection abilities, but no matter how much they tried, it yielded nothing.

Serya pointed upward. Velka and the soldier glanced at each other. Then they both looked up toward the ceiling of the room in front of them. That instant, their eyes widened and their whole bodies trembled in fear.

There were more than a hundred giant lizards crawling along the walls of that room. Their eyes glowed in the darkness. One second later, several of those lizards dropped down. The ground trembled. They began moving toward Serya and the others. Velka and the soldier immediately stepped forward and prepared to fight.

"Protect the lady!" shouted Velka.

The soldier nodded. He stepped back two steps and stood in front of Serya, who was still on the ground. Velka pulled out her weapon—a spear. Her body was small, so naturally, her weapon was also small. Even so, Velka was highly respected in the city of Vashtraal.

She was a skilled fighter. Not someone to be underestimated, though fighting dozens of giant lizards wouldn’t be something she could win easily.

One of the lizards opened its mouth. A fireball lit up in front of its jaws. One second later, the other lizards did the same. One by one began to open their mouths and moments later, they fired fireballs.

Velka clicked her tongue in irritation. Dozens of fireballs were rapidly approaching. She took a deep breath and nodded. With incredible speed, Velka suddenly appeared in front of one of the fireballs. She made a vertical slash. The slash split the fireball into eight parts.

After that, she moved toward another fireball. Velka did the same to that one. Her movements were extremely fast, but slashing through dozens of fireballs? That was impossible.

Velka’s body was hit by a fireball. Her body was thrown back, and burn wounds on both her arms made her wince. It was painful and stung. Meanwhile, a dozen other fireballs kept coming closer to Serya.

The soldier was ready to sacrifice himself. Velka wouldn’t allow that. She ran once again. She channeled magical energy into her legs. She launched herself using legs powered by lightning magic. The pain was intense.

"For Lady Serya, I will do anything," said Velka with full resolve.

She stood up and immediately slashed through all the fireballs. All were cut down. The fireballs were now smaller. The soldier standing in front of Serya nodded. He understood his duty. He made a move and stomped the ground hard once.

A five-layered earthen wall emerged. It blocked all the fireballs heading toward him.

"Is it over?" he muttered.

However, when he removed the earthen wall, the soldier was stunned. His face, which still had determination, suddenly lost all that resolve when he saw hundreds of fireballs moving toward them. When he looked at Velka, he saw nearly her entire body covered in burn marks.

Her body was red, her skin blistered in several places. Her eyes could barely open wide. She had blocked many fireballs, but it wasn’t enough.

"Forgive me, Lady," said Velka.

She gave a bitter smile. Filled with disappointment and regret for not being able to protect her lady, Serya. The giant lizards were too powerful for her to fight. And there were just too many of them. It was simply impossible for someone as small as Velka.

"Alvaric, I beg you... help us!" said Velka just as the fireballs came extremely close to her.

The fireballs got even closer. Velka was ready to sacrifice herself to block several incoming fireballs. But just as she braced for death, suddenly a bright light appeared in front of her. A light so bright, but only for a few seconds.

In that moment, Velka smiled in relief. "Thank you."

Alvaric deactivated the Blood Domain skill. That skill put a lot of strain on his body. He was exhausted. One of his arms even felt hard to move. Alvaric wanted to rest after defeating the monster in that room. But as he blinked and returned to the real world—

Alvaric instead saw hundreds of fireballs right in front of him. Only a few millimeters away. Alvaric clicked his tongue in annoyance.
