The Last Monarch : Unlimited Regeneration-Chapter 70: Royal Palace (Part 7)
Chapter 70: Royal Palace (Part 7)
Aerozar raised his hand, aiming it at Alvaric.
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted behind Alvaric. His body was thrown forward. At the same time, Urkhan leapt. He swung his enormous axe. Alvaric tried to dodge, but Urkhan moved his fingers. At that exact moment, an earth spell bound Alvaric’s legs.
His movement was hindered, but he stomped the ground hard. The earth binding his legs shattered instantly. Alvaric stepped back, dodging the incoming strike.
"You won’t be able to dodge this!" shouted Leon.
He appeared from behind and rammed his shield into Alvaric. Alvaric’s body collided with Leon’s shield. It made him stagger forward. Alvaric tried to regain his balance—but then something unexpected happened.
SLARRRH!
He was struck by lightning. His body charred. He couldn’t move for a few seconds. At that same moment, Urkhan was already closing in. His axe was only a few centimeters away from hitting. Alvaric moved his fingers. At that moment, a massive blood sword appeared behind Urkhan.
Alvaric moved his fingers again. The blood sword lunged forward, aiming at Urkhan. But at the same time, Urkhan’s slash had already reached the point of no return.
"You’re dying with me," said Alvaric.
Slarrrh!
The slash cut through Alvaric’s body—half of it. Blood sprayed from his torso, but his body didn’t fall. He remained standing, and rapidly, his body began to regenerate.
[HP: 600/22,000]
[HP: 720/22,000]
[HP: 940/22,000]
Alvaric’s HP kept increasing every second. He would be fully healed in under two minutes. Meanwhile, things were different for Urkhan. He vomited blood. He had managed to block the blood sword’s thrust by wrapping his body with thick layers of earth and Mana.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough. The Blood Sword still pierced through his defenses. The thrust nearly pierced through to the front. It nearly killed Urkhan.
"Are you okay?" asked Aerozar.
Urkhan shot him a sharp glare. He hated stupid questions like that. It was obvious he was seriously injured, yet someone still asked if he was alright. Urkhan found it dumb and irritating.
Urkhan took out one of his potions and drank it immediately. His body gradually recovered. Though it wasn’t as effective as Alvaric’s regeneration, the potion at least helped. Urkhan was now ready to fight again. He turned his gaze to Alvaric—whose body had fully recovered.
"Damn monster," muttered Urkhan.
No matter how many attacks they launched, it never seemed enough to kill him. He was struck by lightning—yet he healed. He was nearly beheaded—still, he healed. Half his body was split in two—and he still stood. Now he looked healthier than ever.
Urkhan clicked his tongue in frustration. Tactically, they had the upper hand. They had injured Alvaric multiple times and should have killed him already. Meanwhile, Alvaric had only managed to injure them once.
Yet strangely, the three of them were starting to wear down. Alvaric too, but he had his own way of recovering. He didn’t resist when struck—he focused on restoring his strength. He also brought a lot of meat, which he ate when he was almost out of energy.
"Come on, you losers!" Alvaric taunted.
The three generals didn’t take the bait. They remained calm. They stepped forward and launched their attacks again.
***
Two days passed, and still, no one had been killed on either side. But exhaustion had begun to set in. Especially for Alvaric, who had been fending off three opponents at once.
"If we keep this up, we’ll be the ones who fall," grumbled Aerozar.
Leon and Urkhan nodded. Half the capital had already been destroyed. The citizens had started to evacuate. The capital was growing quiet.
They couldn’t fight at full power while people were still inside the city.
And more than that, the capital of Valantharia was a historic site. This was the birthplace of the Valantharia Kingdom. The place where the seven demi-human families formed a pact and ended a war that had lasted centuries.
Destroying the capital meant destroying that legacy. That was why they had been hesitant.
CRACK-BOOM!
The sound of a blast echoed through the darkening sky. Red and gold bursts exploded above the shattered city, casting flashes of light like a celebration—but this was no victory.
It was a signal.
A signal only the three main generals understood.
Aerozar looked up. The final firework bloomed in the shape of a dark red circle. He lowered his gaze. His eyes changed. No more hesitation.
Urkhan gripped his axe with both hands. The veins in his arms bulged, and his body radiated an aura of firm, unshakable resolve.
Leon, with his shield in hand and a lightning symbol glowing on his chest, muttered softly, "Finally, there’s no one left in the capital." He felt relieved, though still a bit reluctant to destroy the city. "Forgive me," he whispered to the demi-human ancestors.
No more words were exchanged. Only the intense auras of the three powerhouses shook the ground beneath them. Alvaric narrowed his eyes.
"Oh?" he muttered. "Finally done playing around?"
Aerozar formed a massive magic circle in the air. Three layers, each spinning in a different direction. "Sky Prison Formation."
Leon began chanting a high-level lightning incantation. The sky responded immediately. KRKRKR-KRAAACK!
Urkhan recited an ancient mantra in the language of the Bear Ancestor Clan. Earthly aura spread from his feet, forming a giant stone golem silhouette behind him.
"You won’t survive this," said Leon in a low voice.
"At last," Alvaric grinned. Blood dripped from his lips, but his body looked more energized than ever. "The real battle begins."
BOOM! THOOM! KRAKADOOM!
Explosion after explosion rained down on Alvaric. The ground cracked open. The sky filled with lightning. The air boiled from magical heat. One by one, the attacks crashed into Alvaric from all sides. But he endured. He kept laughing.
His body was shredded again and again. Blood streamed from his wounds. He couldn’t fight back—but he smiled all the same.
[HP: 10/22,000]
[HP: 1/22,000]
BOOM!
A massive explosion hit Alvaric directly. His body was flung away. The ground beneath him shattered. A massive crater formed.
But Alvaric didn’t die.
[Shield Regeneration – activeted]
[HP: 1/22,000]
His body was still intact. Not completely destroyed like before, but the blood from the barrage had reduced the ground beneath him to rubble.
Half of the capital had become a giant lake.
[4 minutes: 45 seconds]
Alvaric looked up. This was what he had been waiting for. He raised his hand and pointed toward the three generals floating mid-air—Leon and Urkhan held by Aerozar’s talons.
"If this fails... it means death for me," said Alvaric.
He had to kill at least one of the generals he had been fighting. Once his Shield Regeneration ran out, he would be stuck at 1 HP for a brief moment.
If he didn’t level up soon, one strike from a general—and he’d die.
"Please... just die already!" shouted Alvaric.
