The Last Monarch : Unlimited Regeneration-Chapter 68: Royal Palace (Part 5)
Chapter 68: Royal Palace (Part 5)
Alvaric stood up again. His body was fine. Even his head, which had been slammed against a stone by one of the generals, had already recovered. He drew the Vapper’s Dagger and his Crimson Sword Demon. The moon phenomenon from their blades appeared once more. The three main generals felt a familiar pressure weighing down on them.
"So that’s the source... it’s coming from one of the weapons he’s holding," said Aerozar Skywing.
He was one of the generals from the Sky Bird family—a spirited old man whose energy and vigor rivaled that of young men, even though he was nearly a hundred years old. He was also the grandfather of Clard—the Sky Bird whom Alvaric had killed.
Clard’s body was discarded in the desert, where he died in a pitiful state. Naturally, as a member of the Sky Bird family, Aerozar possessed the same type of weapons and magic: spear, wind, and explosion. He was the one who had previously slammed Alvaric’s body.
"If I could obtain that sword, I think my power would become even stronger," said Leon Grave.
He was the uncle of the King of Valantharia—a man who often stood behind crucial decisions made by the king. His age wasn’t as advanced as Aerozar’s. Leon was only 60 years old—still considered young among the primary generals. freēnovelkiss.com
Leon wielded rare lightning element magic. In addition to that, he fought with a sword and shield, serving as the frontline tank in every battle.
"Don’t be overconfident. He defeated all seven reserve generals alone. And you can see it yourselves—his regeneration ability is beyond reason."
This time, the one speaking was Urkhan—a general from the demi-human family of bears. He carried a massive battle axe on his shoulder. His body was the largest among the three. He also possessed two very effective elements in combat: Earth and Fire.
The three of them slowly walked toward Alvaric, who was also ready to fight. This was the true battle—if Alvaric could defeat these three main generals, the chances of him destroying the Kingdom of Valantharia would become very real.
Each of their footsteps caused the ground beneath them to tremble with their aura. Dust fell from the ceiling, and the air turned heavy. But Alvaric stood firm, holding both of his weapons—ready. His instincts screamed, "Run," but his will refused to obey.
Aerozar narrowed his eyes. "I didn’t expect anyone to still be alive after that slam. You’re a tough opponent."
"Your attack was too weak. It felt more like a massage. Actually helped my neck feel better," Alvaric mocked.
Aerozar looked irritated, but he restrained himself. He knew Alvaric was deliberately provoking him. A cheap trick often used—but just as often, it worked. Aerozar had used such tricks himself many times, and they had yielded good results.
He would not fall for Alvaric’s words.
Leon Grave’s eyes were fixed on the crimson sword in Alvaric’s hand. "That weapon... I like it. I think it would suit me well."
"You can try to take it," Alvaric challenged.
Behind them, Urkhan tapped the handle of his axe on the ground. A new crack spread out. He was ready to fight. He suspected all this talking was Alvaric’s trick to buy time. Though it wasn’t entirely wrong.
"Enough talking. He’s stalling," said Urkhan.
Aerozar and Leon nodded. Both were now poised with their weapons. Alvaric also readied himself. He knew this would be a hard battle. He wasn’t sure he could win, but he would do everything to survive—and at least take one of the main generals down with him.
"If I survive this... it’ll be a terrifying miracle."
The three main generals began to move. Aerozar leaped first, sharp winds slicing through the air as his spear surged forward. When he reached Alvaric, he immediately lunged with a quick thrust. Alvaric blocked it, but the force pushed him back a step.
Baam!
Alvaric was pushed back two more steps. The explosion caused blood to run down his face. However, the wound healed in just seconds.
"Take that!" Aerozar jeered.
While Alvaric was brushing off the dust from the explosion, Leon followed up—lightning coursing along his blade. He attacked from the side with a horizontal slash, but Alvaric managed to block it.
Not only that, Alvaric countered and pushed Leon back. He raised his own sword and slashed, but Leon’s shield absorbed the blow. The impact even slightly bounced back against Alvaric’s strength.
"You’re stronger than I expected," Leon praised.
Leon and Urkhan exchanged glances and nodded. Both ran toward Alvaric at once. However, once they got close, they suddenly darted in opposite directions—attacking simultaneously. Alvaric was caught off guard.
"Damn, they’re cunning," Alvaric cursed.
He had to choose. He turned toward Urkhan. Urkhan didn’t wait. With one brutal swing, his axe slammed into the ground. Shards of stone shot out in all directions. Alvaric had to leap back to avoid the cracks racing toward his feet.
"Bastard... he changed his attack pattern at the last second."
As Alvaric jumped back to dodge Urkhan’s attack, Leon and Aerozar launched their strikes from behind. Aerozar hurled his spear. Meanwhile, Leon charged in shield-first like a bull.
Alvaric’s focus was torn. He was completely outmaneuvered by these three war veterans. He managed to deflect Aerozar’s spear, but then Leon’s shield crashed into him. He was thrown back.
"Got you!" shouted Urkhan.
He swung his axe in a wide horizontal arc. Alvaric tried to dodge, but Leon appeared again, ramming him the same way. Alvaric’s body was thrown even closer toward Urkhan’s axe.
Blaassshh!
Alvaric’s body was sliced in two. At that moment, Leon and Urkhan rushed toward him again. They didn’t leave any opening—they attacked without pause.
But this time, it wasn’t so easy. A wall of blood rose up to block their attacks. It even retaliated against them. Leon and Urkhan were forced to retreat a few steps.
"This is getting interesting," said Alvaric, fully recovered.
His body had reformed. His three opponents were already preparing to attack again. They fought with incredible skill.
Years of combat experience couldn’t be denied. They hadn’t even taken a single wound from Alvaric. And they hadn’t shown their full power yet either.
"I don’t know where you got that insane regeneration ability. But since you’ve attacked the Kingdom of Valantharia, there will be no mercy," said Leon.
"I have no intention of begging," Alvaric replied, lowering into a battle stance. "Come at me, old men!"
