Chapter 63: Road to the Capital (Part 12)

"Are you sure, My Lady?"

The snake woman stood up. She walked over to close the file she had been working on. Her eyes showed determination.

"Are you doubting my decision?" she asked back.

Her personal guard bowed his head. He even looked away. "Forgive me, My Lady."

The snake woman turned toward the window. Outside, clouds drifted in the wind. One cloud looked like a massive spear.

On the other side, another cloud took the shape of a sword. The two clouds moved toward each other, clashed, and then both vanished as if they had exploded.

The snake woman looked back at her personal guard.

"I know why you doubt me, but..." She picked up a report she had received two days ago. "Read this. After you’ve read it, you’ll understand why I chose that strange man."

The guard caught the large document. His body was no bigger than a human hand. He placed the file on a chair and began to open its pages one by one.

As he read the report, he swallowed hard.

Looking at the snake woman again, he asked, "Is this real? Does such a powerful being really exist?"

The snake woman smiled. "Now you understand?"

The guard nodded. He understood very well now, but deep down, he still felt the report might have been exaggerated. It didn’t make sense for a demi-human of that power to exist without ever being known.

If someone that strong existed, they should already be one of the generals. But that wasn’t the case.

"Are you certain this is real?" the guard asked again.

"Trust me! I would never make a foolish decision."

The guard immediately nodded. "You’re right, My Lady."

Elsewhere, Alvaric and Tamae were ready to leave the village. As they prepared to go, they were given food and plenty of gifts by the villagers.

Many of the gifts were politely refused by Alvaric. He felt he didn’t need them, and the villagers needed them more.

"I’ve got Tamae to pay for all my needs. So, I don’t need that many coins," Alvaric said confidently.

Tamae, hearing that, gave him a small side glance. She felt like she was being used. Even though her brother had given her a good amount of money, Alvaric’s words were still annoying.

"Well then, we thank you once more!" said the village elder with a bow.

"Thank you," the villagers said in unison.

Alvaric felt relieved and happy. After that, he and Tamae boarded the horse carriage. Not long after, the carriage began to move.

The villagers waved goodbye. Tamae and Alvaric waved back, both of them smiling at the people.

Their destination was the capital. Their journey was still long, so they wouldn’t be stopping too often.

"We’ll only stop two more times. Do you agree?" Tamae asked.

"No problem."

This trip was Alvaric’s request, yet strangely, Tamae seemed the most excited. Even though she was a part of the capital and the kingdom. She was one of the ten Reserve Generals. fгeewebnovёl.com

She should’ve been more worried about her fellow generals, but that didn’t seem to be the case.

While Tamae was busy tending to her sword, Alvaric opened his system window. He saw that his level had now reached Level 15.

"It’s been a while since I’ve done any level farming. My stats haven’t grown much because of it," Alvaric muttered.

Aside from his level reaching 15, his evolution points had also increased.

[2,500 / 100,000]

It had grown by 1,300 from leveling up and completing previous missions. Still, it was far too little to reach 100,000 evolution points. It was severely lacking. Alvaric was curious what would happen once he evolved again. But he had to bury that curiosity for now.

Alvaric scratched his head. "If I only get 1,000 points per mission, it’ll take decades just to reach ten thousand."

He could say that because missions didn’t appear daily, and rewards were only about a thousand. If he got one mission per day, it would take roughly 100 days. But in reality, missions could be several days apart.

Alvaric let out a long sigh. It felt like reaching evolution was a foolish dream. Better to focus on something else.

He turned to Tamae, who was still holding her shoulder that was still in pain. She had already drunk a potion, but internal injuries were hard to heal. The impact from before was too strong and had hurt her internal organs, but she was still in decent condition. She wouldn’t die.

"How many main generals are in the capital?" Alvaric asked.

"If you’re referring only to the main generals, then there are seven demi-humans. However, they’re not always in the capital. Some are busy with missions or... live in their family estates in other regions," Tamae replied.

Alvaric nodded in understanding. That meant he had to face around seven powerful enemies and the thousands of Valantharia royal troops. Alvaric had no idea how strong they were since he hadn’t met even one of them. Trying to use Tamae as a standard wouldn’t work either.

Tamae was only a Reserve General. Very different from the Main Generals. He didn’t know how vast the gap was, but his instincts told him it was massive.

"If I fought against all seven Generals... who would win?"

Alvaric frowned, stroking his chin. "I think I’ve answered this before. I forgot, but fine—I’ll answer again." She looked at him. From her gaze alone, Alvaric already knew the answer. "The chance of you winning is probably only 2%. Almost impossible."

Alvaric was quite shocked by that answer. He had thought he could at least tie or win. But Tamae’s answer was completely different. What surprised him the most was that his chance of winning was only 2%. That was ridiculously low.

"Is the power gap really that wide?"

"I’m not fully certain on individual strength, but... you asked about a one-on-seven fight, plus there are thousands of soldiers in the capital. You’d just be throwing your life away by doing that," Tamae explained again.

Alvaric went silent for a few seconds. "But I have to get revenge on them for Niva’s death."

"I never said you shouldn’t seek revenge. Do it! Especially since even if you lose, it won’t necessarily mean death. At least you’ll still have another chance."

Alvaric remained silent again. He couldn’t tell Tamae that he wasn’t immortal. He could keep recovering because his healing regeneration was 1% per second. But if the damage exceeded his healing rate, then he’d die.

He could definitely die. Alvaric was still mortal.
