The Lady of the Prestigious Family is a Big Boss-Chapter 61 - 0, Hmm, bottoms up (second update)
Upon pushing open the door to room 501, Director Xu led the way inside.
"Uncle Xu."
The mild voice was like a breeze in March.
Mingqian trailed behind and when he saw the standing figure not far away, he was slightly surprised.
What a coincidence?
Was Jiang Yisheng the person Director Xu was talking about?
Jiang Yisheng noticed him too. Their gazes met in midair, and Yisheng nodded slightly towards him before indifferently shifting his gaze away.
"Yisheng, this is Ji Mingqian, the male lead of the movie I’m currently shooting," Director Xu enthusiastically introduced them.
"Uncle Xu, we’ve met." Jiang Yisheng’s voice was soothing.
"You know each other? You should have said so earlier, I was worried that my last-minute meal arrangements would be awkward for you," Director Xu said with a stunned laugh.
"Let’s sit down and then talk."
The three sat down, and Director Xu took a sip of water. "Let’s order first. You two pick, I’m fine with anything."
Suddenly, the vibrating sound of a cellphone rang out.
Director Xu took it out for a look; his wife was calling. He stood up, "You two go ahead and order, I’ll take this call outside."
With his departure, the private room suddenly felt a bit chilly.
Technically speaking, the two had only met by chance twice before, so they were not exactly familiar with each other.
Mingqian browsed through the menu, selected a few dishes, and also ordered some bottles of alcohol before setting the menu down.
Across from him, Yisheng had already ordered. He leisurely sipped warm water from a cup.
The atmosphere turned even more awkward with Director Xu’s absence.
In the end, Mingqian was the first to break the silence, "Has your cold gotten better?"
"Huh?" Yisheng looked up, puzzled.
Mingqian explained, "I saw it on the trending topics when I was browsing Weibo."
Yisheng’s lips curved slightly, revealing a shallow dimple, "That’s false. I didn’t have a cold, just didn’t rest well the night before yesterday, so I looked a bit pale."
Remembering when he saw the trending topic and even jokingly labeled him a ’sick beauty’ to himself, Mingqian felt somewhat guilty.
"I’ve seen the movie you shot. It was very well done," Yisheng said in his soft voice, without even a hint of flattery.
Watching his movie, it felt like the character was tailor-made for Mingqian – he brought the character to life.
"I am looking forward to your new work."
Mingqian’s lips curled into a smile, teasing, "How about you book an entire showing when the movie’s released, to support me and Director Xu?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Yisheng agreed heartily, "Sure."
The atmosphere had unconsciously warmed up a bit.
At that moment, Director Xu returned from his phone call, followed by a waiter.
"Finished ordering?" Director Xu asked as he pulled out his chair to sit.
Yisheng nodded and handed both menus to the waiter.
"Please wait a moment."
After taking the menus, the waiter turned and walked out.
"Yisheng, how long will you be staying in S City this time?" Director Xu inquired.
"I’ll stay for a few more days. I have to shoot one of my new album’s MVs here," Yisheng replied.
"If you have time, come visit our set. It’s not often we get to meet, we should have more meals together."
"Alright." As ever, he was the epitome of modesty.
Shortly, the dishes were all served.
Director Xu took a bottle of alcohol and filled three glasses; the crisp fragrance of the drink quickly filled the air.
Aside from Yisheng, both were fond of alcohol. They clinked glasses and downed their drinks in one go.
Mingqian set down his glass and, looking up, noticed the untouched drink in Yisheng’s cup. His lips curved mischievously.
"Yisheng, the alcohol here is quite good. Try it, it’s not too strong," Director Xu said, lifting his glass to clink with his.
Yisheng reluctantly picked up his glass and went along with it.
Seeing his glass empty, Director Xu moved to pour him another.
Yisheng stopped him with a wry smile, "Uncle Xu, I really can’t hold my liquor well, one glass is about my limit."
"Alright then." Seeing that he couldn’t drink, Director Xu didn’t insist and instead turned to Mingqian to continue drinking.
"Mingqian, let’s carry on drinking."
Yisheng hadn’t eaten much before dizziness overcame him, his usually cold and jade-like cheeks tinted with a touch of red.
Just one drink and he was already slightly tipsy.
When Mingqian ordered the alcohol, it naturally wasn’t the mild stuff. These drinks might not have a high alcohol content, but they packed a punch later on.
He put down his chopsticks and leaned back in his chair, his hand moving to massage his forehead. His fingers slipped to the side, pressing against his temple instead.
"Yisheng, there’s no rush on the ending song for the movie; you can take your time," Director Xu said after a few rounds of drinks, bringing up work.
Yisheng responded with a simple "okay," reached for his cup, and slowly took a sip of water. The cool liquid slid down his throat, helping him to clear his head a bit.
For the rest of the time, he quietly listened to Director Xu and Mingqian chatting, occasionally chiming in.
With Director Xu getting carried away with his drinking, he failed to notice Yisheng’s discomfort.
Belching from the alcohol, Director Xu’s face flushed red. "I’m going to the restroom. I’ll be back to keep drinking, wait here."
Mingqian glanced at him, at his staggering steps that looked like he might hit a wall at any moment. "Uncle Xu, do you need someone to help you there?"
"No... no need... don’t underestimate me." Director Xu waved a hand and staggered out.
Mingqian chuckled. His gaze swept over the person across from him, noting the hand pressed against his forehead and the slightly hazy look in his green eyes.
Knocked out by just one drink?
Is his tolerance really that bad?
"Are you okay?" Mingqian’s voice was magnetic and slightly hoarse.
Yisheng looked up, the dizziness intensifying, "I’m..."
"Thump—"
Face down, his forehead hit the table producing a muffled sound.
Mingqian was taken aback, then rose to his feet and walked over.
"Yisheng, wake up." He extended a finger and poked Yisheng’s shoulder, "You can’t be this bad with alcohol, finished after just one drink?"
"..."
All that answered him was the back of a head.
At that moment, Director Xu returned.
Having washed his face he felt more sober.
"Mingqian, I’m going to head back first. Xu’s wife is already here to pick me up." He walked in as he spoke.
The next second, catching sight of Yisheng slumped on the table, Director Xu was flabbergasted. "What happened to Yisheng?"
Mingqian crossed his arms, "He drank too much."
Director Xu was astonished, "Didn’t he just have one drink?"
"Yep, one drink down," Mingqian said, holding back laughter.
Director Xu scratched his head, "Let’s call it a night then. Let’s go."
"Is his manager here?" Mingqian asked.
