The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 129: Prove you wrong (3)
Chapter 129: Prove you wrong (3)
"I thought you would have understood after yesterday, but you went and made me an enemy in your head. And here I was going to thank you for not saying anything yesterday. It’s good you spoke up before I could have made a fool of myself," said Tabitha.
She owed Hazel for not saying that she ignored Hazel being in pain with the small shoes because Tabitha could have had them changed with one order. Seeing how Hazel was behaving now, she did not deserve a thank you.
"I am not the enemy you want, Hazel. I am the one who will best understand your predicament. You should have me as an ally."
"That was all I wanted, but before anyone in the palace could attack me, you were the first to do it. You made yourself an enemy I need to watch out for," Hazel said, annoyed by the queen pretending to not know of her actions. "And you didn’t need to thank me. I didn’t let what happened yesterday go because I felt sorry for you. It was so Tobias wouldn’t stop speaking to his mother."
"I do not want to be in the midst of your falling out with him. I won’t ever make him have to pick."
Tabitha smiled, entertained by Hazel. "Is it because you fear the outcome of him picking?"
"No." Hazel shook her head. "I would hope that right now he would pick his mother. The same cannot be said for when we are married. I care for him enough to not want him to ever pick because from what I have seen the people he can trust in the palace are slim. It would be cruel to make him have to pick."
Tabitha frowned. "Do not tell me what to do with my son!"
"I am not telling you what to do. I am stating what I will not do. We see eye to eye on one thing. I won’t run to Tobias for my problems concerning women like you. I want him to keep thinking that his mother is a wonderful woman. When you show your colours to him will be of your own doing," Hazel said.
"It’s disappointing," Hazel continued. "I had hoped you would want me to succeed you in places you failed so we could make it better for the next queen. You don’t want to miss the chance to hurt someone as you might have been hurt."
"Do not try to lecture me. You continue to speak as if we are-"
"We are to be family,’ Hazel interjected. "Therefore there are times that I should be comfortable when speaking to you. I still respect you as a queen so I hold my tongue for other things. You are aware that Sofia will one day have a mother-in-law, right? Would you be satisfied with someone treating her as you do to me?"
Tabitha stood up, angered by Hazel mentioning her daughter. "Do not speak of my child. You are out of line."
’Because you have pushed me to be this way to protect myself. I’ve heard that you are a loving mother to your children. That you are understanding and try to help those around you. That was before I entered the selection and got to know what you are like for myself. How disappointing," Hazel repeated.
Hazel stood up as she had lessons to attend and could not waste time sitting with the queen. "I mustn’t be late meeting with my tutor. Please excuse me."
"You’ll come to regret not listening and not taking my advice. I have to be hard on you to help you. It is what helped me be the queen that I am today. You won’t make it on your own," said Tabitha.
"That could end up what happens, but I am going to try to avoid it. You are still to offer me advice as that is what everyone expects. I’m sure the king might not like it if you don’t prepare me well. Remember, I need to be perfect just like Tobias," Hazel said, reminding Tabitha of her words. "For someone wanting me to be perfect, you are making it hard for that to happen."
Hazel curtsied as she bid Tabitha goodbye. What occurred right now would have Tabitha hating her more, but nothing she would do or say would make Tabitha like her unless she were to become another young lady.
Tabitha wanted to see her have a fire to be here and now she was going to let it show.
"That insufferable girl," Tabitha muttered, watching as Hazel left her sight.
At the very least, she didn’t have to try to pretend like she cared about Hazel. There was just something more than the attitude that made it hard for her to like Hazel.
Hazel was right that she was nothing like the lady Tabitha envisioned Tobias would marry.
"Very well," Tabitha said, letting go of her anger. She would give Hazel the chance to prove her wrong. To prove that she belonged here and was deserving of the seat for the queen.
She would be fair by doing this without giving Hazel any help. Hazel would soon see why Tabitha wasn’t holding her hand during this process and repeating the same methods used on her in the past.
Tabitha walked toward the exit of the room where her maids awaited her. "When Hazel is busy with her studies, gather her maids and find out everything that girl has been doing. Who she has been meeting with. Should Hazel ever meet with anyone alone, tell the maids to come to report it to me right away."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"I believe I gave a strict order that she was to bring nothing to the palace as everything would be prepared for her. Send any extra dresses she brought with her back to her parent’s homes. If she will not wear what has been prepared, then she will stay in her room," Tabitha ordered.
She was in the position where she was to be respected and Hazel was not yet family to speak so comfortably.
"Inform me as soon as Helena Wallace arrives."
Tabitha had something to get under Hazel’s skin and it was her very own sister. Helena was so quick to hang onto her every word because she wanted to stay in the palace and who better to learn more about Hazel than straight from who grew up with her?
Hazel had to be put in her place quickly. She needed to be dragged down to a weak point so she could get rid of that attitude and start listening.
Tabitha could not allow for the next queen to be someone who wouldn’t listen to her orders.
