The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 128: Prove you wrong (2)
Chapter 128: Prove you wrong (2)
"Good morning, Lady Hazel. We brought over the new dresses and shoes prepared for you courtesy of the queen," Valerie announced as she entered the bedroom.
"How can you be certain these will fit me when I have not been measured? I will not be wearing any of the dresses you brought today. Not until I have been measured for them. Help me put on this one," Hazel said, lifting a dress she brought to the palace. freёnovelkiss.com
She had to properly thank Helena for handpicking these dresses.
"Lady Hazel, there is a dress code you are to follow in the palace. Dresses made specifically to be worn in the palace-"
"The palace hasn’t been able to provide anything that fits so until then I will wear what I know fits. I have a busy day so will you stand there and make me late or help me leave for breakfast on time? I wish to know if I should sit," said Hazel.
Valerie inspected the dress Hazel wanted to wear. It wasn’t bad and looked close to the styles used for the palace, but the problem was that it was not made by the palace dressmaker. Hazel was putting her in a difficult position.
"Lady Hazel, just this once I think you should wear what the queen sent you so there isn’t any trouble. We can try on one of the dresses and see if it fits. Bring forward the dresses," Valerie said, clapping her hands to get the maids moving.
"I am not going to wear a dress I was not measured for. I don’t care who it will upset. We’ve already had one problem yesterday with dresses that I wasn’t measured for. I will not be late by trying on a dress which may or may not fit me. Help me with this dress or leave," said Hazel.
Hazel was not going through that pain again. Her feet ached through the night and there was a mark to the sides of her breasst. She wasn’t going to be thankful if these dresses were a little less snug than the ones the day before. They should be just right so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable.
Valerie started to panic as she and Hazel weren’t seeing eye to eye. It was an order for Hazel to wear what the palace prepared for her. Hazel shouldn’t have brought any dresses to the palace for something like this to happen.
"Oh, there are still dresses in the room I used during the selection. They will be useful until the right dresses are made for me. Bring them to me. It seems that I should go ahead and get myself dressed. You are dismissed," Hazel ordered Valerie and the maids.
"N-No," Valerie stammered, moving to be at Hazel’s side. "We are to help with getting you dressed."
"We need to be quick so I won’t be late for breakfast. I cannot keep the tutor waiting," Hazel said, turning to face the mirror.
"We’ll run water for you."
"I took care of bathing myself," Hazel said.
She knew there would be a bit of hesitation to get dressed so she woke up early to take care of bathing herself.
Valerie was surprised to hear that a young lady like Hazel would not want help in the bath, but then she remembered that Hazel was the only one to be uncomfortable with her maid. She got dressed by herself and now it might have been possible that she bathed herself.
What did a woman like Hazel know about those things?
Hazel stood straight, watching as the maids circled her to do their magic to have her look perfect. She succeeded in getting the maids to listen thanks to not backing down, but there was a greater challenge ahead of her.
The queen.
"Valerie, there come a time I can pick a maid I want by my side. When will that time be?" Hazel questioned. The sooner she got rid of the maids the queen handpicked for her, the better.
"You would need to speak to the queen. She is the one to personally select your maids and I cannot change them without her permission," Valerie answered.
Hazel knew that would be beating a dead horse. Tabitha wouldn’t allow her to get rid of these maids when they were keeping an eye on her.
Hazel smiled, knowing the way to get around her. There was someone aside from Tobias who would do anything to help her settle in properly. She only needed the right timing to speak to the king when the queen wasn’t around to object to it.
Less than twenty minutes later, Hazel was dressed and made her way down to breakfast which was a little less silent than dinner. It would have been awkward if not for Tobias purposefully brushing his foot against her own.
"I must go take care of some matters," Jeffrey announced. "Tobias, why are you still sitting when you are to come with me?"
"Just because you are quick to leave your lady without a proper goodbye doesn’t mean I should," Tobias remarked.
If Jeffrey could he would grab Tobias by his collar and drag him out. Who was Tobias to allude that he wasn’t romantic? He did his usual goodbyes before he left the bedroom as it involved a bit of kissing.
"Get up," Jeffrey ordered. They had no time to waste. "I will take Sofia to her lesson on the way."
"Forgive them, Hazel. I was planning to make our goodbye sweet so you wouldn’t be upset again. See you soon." Tobias kissed the back of her hand.
Hazel wanted to step on his shoe for what he said when others were listening, but she missed the opportunity.
Soon it was just Hazel and Tabitha left sitting at the table.
"That isn’t one of the dresses sent to you. I did as Tobias requested, but you are rebelling. It’s a bit too early in your stay here for you to do this," said Tabitha.
With Hazel being new to the palace, one would think that she would be a little more well-behaved rather than behaving like a child who didn’t get what they wanted.
"It’s a bit too early in our stay for you to show the woman you are," Hazel retorted.
It wouldn’t have come to this if Tabitha wasn’t so against her.
"Let’s get this over with. You do not like me," Hazel said, knowing this was the queen’s true feelings. She didn’t care what anyone or the queen would say, Tabitha did not like her. "I’m certain it is partly because I am not the type of lady you imagined for the prince. Perhaps someone who would listen to your every word without question."
Hazel did not like the idea of blindly following anyone.
"I can’t think of what else you could hate me for. It feels like you want to punish me and make me fail, but that’s not going to happen. I am going to prove you wrong that someone else should be in my seat. No matter what games you play, I am not leaving Tobias," Hazel declared.
Hazel was ready for whatever the queen was to throw at her. She was not yet a queen, but she was still Hazel Wallace and that counted for something.
