The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 117: Listening (1)
Chapter 117: Listening (1)
"Lady Hazel."
"You may enter," Hazel answered, standing up from the bed to greet Valerie. She looked around the room to ensure there was nothing odd about it and then back at the door.
Valerie entered with the four maids behind her. "I have brought the trunk of things you brought with you and your old room from the selection was properly cleaned to get your things. You may pick what you want to keep and return the others to your parent’s home."
"Thank you. I hope it is not too heavy," Hazel said, watching as the maids lifted the trunk inside the room.
"It is not. I gave it a little lift earlier. Now, the dress you are wearing is lovely, but it is best if you wear one of the dresses picked for you. You will fit right in when you meet with the Castros. Did you look through them?" Valerie asked, going toward the dresses she had a hand in picking out.
"I did. They are all beautiful," Hazel replied. ’Just a little small looking.’
"Close the door. We must get the lady dressed quickly. Can you please turn?" Valerie asked.
"Oh yes," Hazel said and then turned back to Valerie.
"Your maids will come early in the morning to prepare your bath, do your hair, and help you get dressed in time for breakfast. It is important that you get the proper sleep you need as you should not be late for breakfast. Being on time should be what you strive for," said Valerie, repeating her earlier advice.
Valerie thought Hazel would make a good impression if she were the first one to arrive, but she was going to let Hazel decide that on her own. "Winter, please bring down the yellow dress for us to try."
"Yes, head maid."
Hazel remained unaffected by her dress coming off and being the only one undressed in the room. It was easy to get used to since that was how she grew up with maids tending to her.
Hazel stood still, only moving when asked to help with putting on the new dress.
"Oh dear," Valerie whispered as she failed to properly tie the dress. She stepped to the side to look at the front of Hazel. "It’s a little snug in the chest area. This is not good. You will need to try sucking in your body so the dress can fit."
"Wouldn’t it be best that I wear one of my dresses? I have a yellow one that is also beautiful," Hazel said.
The dress was already trying to take her breath away and it was not yet tied.
Her dresses could be used until Tobias convinced his mother to let her wear what fitted her. It wasn’t like the dresses she brought with her were not of good quality. They were all made by popular dressmakers and cost quite a lot of coins.
It was evident by how much her father cried despite it not putting a dent in their wealth.
"These dresses were made within the palace for you. You are to wear them and I will do my best to get you in it. Now, please suck in your body so that I might be able to tie it. I will make note that your food is to be reduced so this matter will be taken care of quickly," said Valerie.
They already had the trick to get anyone to slim down to the perfect size.
Hazel had gone all her life thinking that she was a good size. She was a little bigger than Helena, but her body was not much different from many of the other young ladies who joined her in the selection therefore she was not going to feel like she was suddenly fat.
The only people she ever saw trying to keep their bodies at a particular size were the actresses at the small theatres since they had to sometimes share dresses.
"There," Valerie said, succeeding at tying up the dress thanks to Hazel’s help. "Your hair will do for now, but please sit so we can change your shoes. About the prince."
"Y-Yes?" Hazel quickly answered.
"I found out that he is to be doing training today so you won’t see him until dinner," Valerie repeated what she was told by a maid. She was lucky that Tobias was busy so he wouldn’t disturb Hazel. "We are going near the queen’s side of the tower today. Your tutors will come to you here tomorrow to start your lessons. Would you like to visit a library to get a few books for early reading?"
Hazel was still in the midst of calming herself now that she knew the head maid wasn’t asking about Tobias being inside this very room. "Yes, that would be wonderful if we could visit a library."
Hazel sat down on the bed and at the worst time, she was reminded of somewhat laying here with Tobias. ’I should have sent him out in the beginning,’ she thought. Now this was going to haunt her as she thought about what she was not to do with the head maid around.
It was like her mouth wanted what happened to slip out.
Hazel sat not saying another word as the maids changed her shoes. They were also a bit too small and rather than mention using her shoes as it was pointless, she would stay quiet until Tobias helped her with the matter.
’I can see losing weight for dresses, but why do they expect us to all wear the same shoe size?’ Hazel wondered.
The palace was getting stranger by the second and making the town seem normal. Of course, Lockwood was the way that it was with a palace with ridiculous rules like this.
"We are finished. We are right on time to start your tour and end for you to sit with the queen. Allow me," Valerie said, offering her hand to help Hazel stand.
Hazel would need a moment to get used to what she was wearing now, but after the tour, she would be quite comfortable in her shoes and dress.
Hazel accepted Valerie’s help off the bed. Standing up at first was painful thanks to the shoes pinching her feet, but she could endure it. Rather than enjoying a nice tour around the palace, she wanted it to be quick so she would get to sit again.
There would be no greater feeling than returning to her room at the end of the day and having this dress and shoes removed from her body.
"Yes, but before we go, do you regularly cut your hair? It would be better if you grew it to be a little longer. There is not much to do with the length that you have now," said Valerie.
Hazel touched her hair. "My mother would just have it cut to stay this length because I liked it like this growing up. My maid at home would find good styles for it."
Valerie smiled, deciding to move on since it would be too much change for Hazel all at once. "Then I am sure the palace maids can find something to do with it."
Hazel also smiled, but she wasn’t having the best time right now. ’I hope Tobias is doing better than I am.’
