The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 110: As a family (3)
Chapter 110: As a family (3)
"So, what should we do now since there is nothing to speak of? Do you want to end it here and we all retire to our rooms?" Tabitha asked, tired of the awkwardness.
"No, we can stay here and eat what was prepared," Tobias answered. He would like to leave, but it was best for Sofia that they stay and try to be a family now. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
He didn’t enjoy his time in the palace now, but he was going to try to make it better for his sister. Even if it meant having to visit her more often to play. Tobias would like that she would not come to hate the palace as much as he did and think of running off in the future.
Sofia leaned close to Tobias to whisper, "So, can I have your cake?"
She had eaten her slice and unless Tobias offered his, their mother would not allow for the maids to serve her another. Sofia loved when they got to eat cake because it was sweet. She only got it when it was her birthday or there was a gathering she had to attend, but even then she was not to eat a lot in front of the guests.
Right now it was only her family, but she could not eat as much as she liked. One more slice of cake couldn’t be too much for her.
"No," Tobias whispered, moving his plate out of her reach. If he were going to play with her, it wouldn’t be after she just had two cake slices.
Sofia pouted and folded her arms as it wasn’t fair. Her sadness over not having cake did not last long as a plate was slid over to her.
"Jeffrey, you know that she shouldn’t have a lot of cake. You know how she gets after too many sweet things. Have some water or one of the sandwiches. I will get them for you," Tabitha said, taking up a small plate to put together what Sofia could eat instead of the cake. "The fruits are sweet so you can have them."
"I don’t like cake, but it is always served to me. Sofia can eat it in place of me so it doesn’t go to waste. When was the last time she got to enjoy cake?" Jeffrey asked.
"Two weeks ago when young girls of her age were invited to the palace. We must make a decision quickly on which young girls we will allow to come to the palace to play with Sofia. She needs to have a well-organised group of friends," said Tabitha.
"You mean young girls of wealthy families to aid her in the future. I wouldn’t call them friends. I remember when you did the same thing to me. Inviting young boys into the palace from families you could gain something from. I remember your displeasure when Edgar brought Rafael. Son of a mere knight were your words," Tobias said, smiling while his mother frowned.
Tabitha wished to know who had let her words slip to Tobias as she could not recall telling him of her dislike for whom he became friends with. She would have never said it to Rafael for him to mention something to Tobias.
If she remembered it correctly, she said it to one of her ladies and then to Jeffrey who said to leave them.
"You made good friends among the boys we invited to the palace. Look at you and Edgar," Jeffrey said, pointing out one positive.
"I knew him before then because of Edmund. Let Sofia have some control in picking her friends. I see her running around with the young children coming with their parents to make deliveries-"
"A princess cannot play with anyone," Tabitha cut in, shutting down the suggestion.
"Yes. Show the people that we are too high and mighty to be around them. I am sure they will continue to love us. It wouldn’t hurt for her to play with those children," said Tobias.
They were only children wanting to run around the palace and try catching each other. If Sofia didn’t play with them, she had to wait for their mother to invite the children to come play with her.
Most of the time, the young girls invited didn’t act their age. They sat down and acted way older than they were as their parents instructed them to.
"It is for her safety, isn’t it Jeffrey?" Tabitha asked, turning to him for help.
"It is, but I suppose since they are playing in the palace, she will be safe. Should anyone try to harm her, there is always a guard around Sofia. It would be good for us to interact with the people more. We’ve been a bit cut off from the town when there aren’t balls," Jeffrey replied, making note that this was to change.
’Great,’ Tabitha sighed as she was once again going to be seen as the villain. Had Jeffrey forgotten that he was the overprotective one who didn’t want random people around his daughter? Now was not the time for him to be agreeing with Tobias.
"There will be a gathering to celebrate my engagement to Hazel. Send out invitations to families without noble titles or grand wealth to be invited. It’s time we connect with all the people again. I have no problem with taking the lead in planning it," Tobias offered.
Being in control meant he would forget to send invitations to a few people who did not need to be around to pretend they were happy for him and Hazel.
"I am the one to prepare all gatherings and balls. You can work with me and bring Hazel into the planning. It will be a good start to her having to look over balls in the future. It will help with our bonding," Tabitha said, bringing her cup to her lips shortly after as she awaited his response.
The mention of Hazel should make him agree.
"Hazel can help me and we will come to you should we need advice. Can I take over the planning, father?"
"I don’t see why not as long as you send your plans to your mother and I. It will be your duty in the future so we should test how well you do. Tabitha, consider this a test to see what more you must teach them. Should they fail, they have all the more reason to come to you," Jeffrey said, finding a way to please everyone.
"Very well," Tabitha agreed. She didn’t mind sitting back and letting them try to take the lead as failure would silence them and let them finally listen. "Then I will go ahead and plan a dinner for the two families to sit down. Renee is a fine lady with a good reputation. I would love to see her in the palace more."
"Remember your duty of helping to marry off Helena. Make sure you are not just pushing her toward a man who will not care for her," said Tobias.
Tabitha was a bit surprised to hear him having an interest in who Helena would marry. "Forgive me, I thought you didn’t care for her to be concerned about who she will marry."
’I care about her problems becoming Hazel’s,’ Tobias thought. During his marriage, he did not want to hear about Helena’s marriage problems.
