Chapter 111: As a family (4)

"This was a lovely surprise from the two of you," Renee said, surprised by what Hazel and Helena planned.

She was overjoyed by the sight of her daughters coming to her in the garden and asking for a moment of her time so they could sit together and have a small lunch together. It was nice to see Hazel and Helena laughing with each other like nothing was wrong in the first place.

They helped put an end to the worrying she was doing and trying to distract herself by looking around the garden. Renee would always love that her children were able to solve their problems after speaking and they would always try to put her in a better mood.

"Well, we all knew that you would continue to be sad that we couldn’t have a good sit down with each other before dinner so I hope you enjoy this," said Hazel.

Making amends with Helena was all the more important at that time because of how they were able to make their mother happy again.

Hazel preferred spending the day granted to her like this rather than being in her room alone looking out at the garden. It was always a good day when they sat together and talked.

"I would have sulked over it a bit more since you are only here for one night. Your father would be the one having to bear with it tonight. You saved him," Renee said, laughing at how Nathan dramatically wiped his forehead. "It wouldn’t have been that bad."

"When you cry I panic because I want your tears to end. It is a beautiful yet sad sight," Nathan said, picking up Renee’s hand to kiss the back of it. She was beautiful even when her face glistened with tears, but then it felt like his heart was being pulled out of his chest because he didn’t want her to cry

"Father, in the past this might have seemed lovely, but could you not do this now?" Helena asked, desperately wanting to get up and run off somewhere. "You’ve been married for how long now?"

Nathan kissed Renee’s hand even though Helena wanted him to stop loving Renee before her. "That doesn’t matter when you love the person you marry. Every day will feel like the day you got engaged. Isn’t that right, my love?"

Renee nodded her head, enjoying the kisses left on her hand. It was this kind of love that she hoped her daughters could experience one day.

"Hazel, should we just get up and leave them? I think they should be alone," Helena said, ready to leave if Hazel would go with her.

Hazel didn’t mind her father displaying his love for their mother before them. "I think that it is sweet. I hope that it doesn’t become too much for my eyes, but it’s still sweet right now."

It made the story her mother told her even better. Her parents did love each other and those upset by Nathan choosing Renee should be glad this ended how it did. Hazel didn’t think her father could have loved anyone else as he loved her mother.

"One day you are going to be so in love with the prince and not caring about how others take that love. You too Helena. You were always the one going on and on about romance," Renee said, lowering her hand Nathan was still holding for it to be under the table.

"Yes, but it is a little awkward when your parents are like this. Besides, I want to save moments like this for me and my husband’s eyes when I marry. No one should have the pleasure of seeing us so happy in love. You know how the town is," Helena said.

Many would dislike it because they weren’t happy in their homes and started looking for ways to ruin the couple’s happiness.

"This town is strange," Helena muttered. "Hopefully with Hazel as queen, we could have some change."

"I’ve witnessed you partake in gossip like every other person in town, Helena. Do you truly want change?" Hazel asked.

"Of course! Once something starts going around about you, your reputation is pretty much over. I cannot think of anyone who survived the town spreading rumours about them. I have to work hard to keep my reputation as not even our family name could save me," Helena said, finding it all to be frustrating.

"Well, we are in the privacy of our home so you are a little free to act as you want if the servants are not around. I do agree that you should keep your love private because some people want to ruin it. If they cannot be happy, why should you be? It is an evil way of thinking," Renee said, shaking her head.

It was the kind of thinking Renee knew Hazel would see in the future as there would be many to envy that she became queen and had the prince so in love with her after all that happened today.

Helena stayed quiet as this was something that she had done recently. Luckily, she wasn’t so angry that she sought to ruin Hazel in the eyes of the town or hurt her.

"Father, will Hazel be safe in the palace? There won’t be any more tests right?" Helena asked, worrying for Hazel’s safety. They should be able to send their guards who were loyal to the family to keep her safe.

"She will be. I will be visiting the palace as soon as I can to speak to the king about her safety," Nathan answered.

He would do what he could to protect his daughter even when he was out of the palace. Luckily, from what he saw from the prince, he could count on Tobias to be Hazel’s protector when he wasn’t around.

The one worry Nathan had was Tobias’s ability to watch over Hazel would change when he became king. The king was a busy man.

"I do not want to think about safety and tests right now. I just want to have a good day thinking of my family. I wouldn’t mind if father were to go back to kissing mother to bother Helena. I liked Helena cringing," Hazel said, stirring the conversation elsewhere.

She had already moved on from what happened earlier and did not want to go back there now when it might be brought up when she entered the palace. Right now all she wanted to speak of was her family and anything else to make her happy.

"Hazel," Helena nudged Hazel because of her suggestion. freewebnøvel.coɱ

Hazel poked at Helena’s side where she knew Helena would feel tickled and was again nudged by Helena.

"Girls," Renee sighed, but she was still happy to see how they were acting. "Since you are so full of life, come take a walk with me so I can show you what I have the gardener doing."

Nathan stood up first to help his wife up. Hazel and Helena then joined in standing after their mother got up.

"As much as I don’t like seeing it these days, I hope we find love like what they have or better," Helena said, watching her parents fall back into behaving like newlyweds.

Hazel held onto Helena’s arm so they could walk close together. "We will."
