Chapter 476: 475. New Patrons (2)

Just as the discussion of the Patron changing was being made high up in the conference hall of Aetherion. The said person regarding whom the chaos was about was still lying unconscious in the bed still trapped in the bounds of a feeble cat’s body.

Though in her mind she had already assumed that she was dead. She couldn’t help but feel as if the most ridiculous ways to die were written for her. In her previous life she had died because of a rookie mistake and in the present one, because of being a cat’s body.

Despite both times she had acted to save someone she couldn’t help but find it absurd. Being a Dragon and one of the most powerful among all the humans on earth she had died simply because of bad luck in a roulette game.

She blamed it all to the system who chose to present her with the shady reward that led to her demise. She had one earnest wish though, if she managed to see the system through her afterlife then she would kick the hell out of it.

Reina cried the tears of blood in her thoughts as she realised that all she had done was for naught, she couldn’t help but think of Kai, her people, her family, every plan that she had already set into motion and the upcoming things. All of those were gone for good now.

Just as she had died in her previous life without watching Luffy become a Pirate King, she had died in this life before watching Eric become a King. Or so she thought.

The clock struck midnight completing the 24 hours time limit of her being in a cat’s body and the system’s notification popped up with a cheerful message.

[Congratulations on completing your twenty-four hours experiencing the fun life of being a feline. We hope you had a memorable time.

The Host’s body returning to normal...]

The frustration was still ripe in Reina’s mind as she griped over the untimely death again completely forgetting that her own Supreme Healing spell had been used to heal her body before things got worse.

Still, it wasn’t until the involuntary clench of her fists suddenly made her realise that she had control of her body. It took some time for her stiff body and the senses to completely link up with her brain.

Slowly, it all came to her. The scent of the herbs and medicines that clogged her nostrils, the soft brush of the sheets that were draped over her and the sound of the heartbeats that were a rhythmic reminder of life around her.

Reina’s eyes slid open and she stared at the ceiling with the blank gaze. She wondered where she woke up now? Was it morgue? Shouldn’t she be six feet under in a coffin?

Stupid as her thoughts were she realised it almost quickly that she was indeed alive and the system was the first to verify it.

The anger that had been suppressed earlier because of confusion suddenly surged forth and she almost reached out to grab the blue screen but just as she sat up she realised that she wasn’t as Ocean anymore, she was rather in her original body and was dressed in a nightgown which made her wonder who dressed her and when. Just as she had been surrounded by various thoughts and questions she noticed a figure who had been silently sitting in the room moving.

She gave the system a glare before she looked at the mop of blonde hair who rushed towards her from the armchair where he was sitting earlier.

Reina almost reached out expecting Sol to run into her arms but he stopped short at the edge of the bed looking at her with a suppressed anguished look in his eyes. The rims were reddened apparently from hours of sobbing and the cheeks flushed. He looked down as if to hide his face and Reina smiled.

"Were you scared?" She asked as she leaned closer to him.

The snowy white strands cascaded down her shoulder and she reached out placing her hand over his head.

"Were you hurt? Did those bast- nasty men do something?" She asked catching herself before she could swear.

The child stood stiffly before a cracking question asked, "Why would you..."

"Hm?"

Sol stood in his spot, his arms trembling before he shouted, "Why would you act so recklessly when you were cursed?!"

"Huh?"

Sol looked up, his eyes were red again with the tears gathering at the rims threatening to spill as he glared at her.

"You go around acting all high and mighty but in that moment when you knew that you couldn’t fight then why didn’t you run yourself instead of trying to protect me?!" He shouted and Reina stared at him.

"How could I leave a child and run myself?" She asked and he grimaced slapping her hand away from his head.

"I am not a child! How many times do I have to tell you that?" He firmly said before his eyes started glowing and his curse reacted right away.

Reina reached out trying to stop him but he smacked her hand away before his body started growing and the black chains which were concealed beneath his skin suddenly broke through the layers and seated over his flesh making him grit his teeth to keep the screams.

Reina had had enough, she reached out and gripped his shoulder firmly.

"Fine, I accept that you’re not a kid and won’t treat you like one. Stop it!"

Regardless of his wishes, the curse seemed to have won as he plopped on the mattress breathing heavily while the smoke emanated from his overheated body.

Reina quickly casted the Healing spell and placed her palm on his head to keep his head cool.

After a couple of seconds, the temperature of his body came down and he simply lay there without a word, conscious.

Reina sighed deeply before she leaned back at the head rest of the bed.

"I understand that you don’t like me pampering you but I can’t help it. You’re currently too weak to do anything and since I can’t relieve you of that curse, at best I can do is look after you. But if even that is scorned by you then fine, I won’t." She said.

"As for what happened back in the town then I would done the same if it were anyone else with me." She clarified before she looked at Sol.

He crawled over wordlessly and lay on the bed at his side, Reina didn’t say anything apart from that before she got out of the bed and changed out of the nightgown that only had her and Sol’s scent, he might have tossed it over her when he recalled that the curse was going to be undone after 24 hours.

Reina donned on her usual outfit before she placed her earstud over her ear before she grabbed her coat and mask and stepped out of the door.

Reina didn’t know where she was headed in the middle of the night but she knew it would be awkward to stay at Sol’s side tonight after the heated exchange. She needed a place to calm herself.

While strolling around in the palace passing by several knights who asked after her and she gave her identity she reached at the training ground where she heard the sounds of the blade whistling and the body whipping around.

Reina stood in her spot watching Arian swing his sword slicing through the air before he turned his head, his eyes widening as he saw her.

"Ma-Master?!" He gasped before he rushed over to her.

His eyes scanned her up and down before he asked, "How are you feeling now? No, wait, what you are doing out here? You should be resting, you were injured so gravely!"

Reina/Ocean raised his eyebrows with a small smile and then assured Arian, "I’m all right now, I can heal myself."

"But that curse..." He muttered as his eyes still looked conflicted.

Ocean sighed, "It was only a little anamoly, a spell gone wrong that’s why I was in that state but now I’m fine and back to normal so, I appreciate you worrying about me."

His face flushed, "Wh-Who’s worried about you? I was just asking because it wouldn’t be good to know that a Marquis of Sestia was injured in my country."

His words made Ocean chuckle and Arian breathed evenly before Ocean thought of something and asked.

"Why are you training so hard this late though, Your Highness? Couldn’t sleep?" He asked and Arian looked at the practice sword in his hand.

"Ah, yes..." He mumbled and Ocean smiled.

"Would you mind having me as a spar partner then?"

Arian looked at the older looking male before his fingers unconsciously tightened over the sword’s hilt and he brought it forth.

"I’d like that,"

Ocean smiled as he stepped ahead making Arian frown.

"Get a sword." He said and Ocean gave him a knowing smile before he swung his leg catching Arian nearly off guard and he stepped back right in the nick of the time.

But Ocean didn’t stop at that, with one hand in the pocket of his coat he shot ahead swung his arm, letting it glide over the sharp side of the blade. Arian almost panicked thinking he’d cut the man’s arm but watching as it didn’t even leave a slight harm even to the fabric shocked him.

"Don’t think of me as a human, Your Highness. The one in your hand right now couldn’t hurt me so, I’d suggest you give this spar your all."

The words seemed to strike Arian and a comprehensive expression followed by a hard one spread over his face before he seriously stepped up.
