The Kingmaker System-Chapter 474 - 473. Day As A Feline (4)
Chapter 474: 473. Day As A Feline (4)
Sol didn’t answer about his thoughts on humans after hearing my perspective, he simply say there brushing my head as if his silence meant something. I tried reading into his silence and after pondering over for a couple of minutes, I couldn’t reach any conclusion. It was like he only wanted to hear my side, as if he was simply testing me. Despite me asking the question, he hadn’t said anything but simply observed me.
It was at times that I felt this kind of profound feeling while being near Sol, as if he was thinking lightyears ahead. But I had no idea of knowing.
While we sat, I could hear the whispering from behind us. The ones hiding in the bushes were conversing.
"Are they tired?" Davian mumbled.
"Well, he’s so small it’s obvious that he got tired." Miri chided.
"Hey, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now but is that really Master?" Arian asked.
"You have a doubt? You didn’t sense his mana?" Davian asked.
"No, I mean... then the cat should resemble him, right? But apart from his eyes nothing else matches." He pointed out and my eyes nearly widened but I didn’t give a damn at this moment, not until another vital point was mentioned.
"Now that you say it..." Davian mumbled, "Master is a man but that cat is a female."
I nearly choked on the snacks that I had fed on since the morning and I jumped to my feet patting my front paws ove Sol’s thigh.
"Let’s go, before they make anymore assumptions." I spoke and Sol glanced at me before scooping me up in his arms and then bounced off the bench making his way towards the crowd again.
Sol moved rather faster through the crowd this time, he wove past the taller people until I couldn’t hear the sounds of our followers anymore. He stopped once we were out of their sight and then walked leisurely.
"Thanks," I sighed and he hummed.
We moved ahead until I saw a familiar face at a familiar stall, "Oh,"
Sol looked at my line of sight before moving towards the stall where a girl was selling the handicrafts made of the Dragons and Saintess. Sol watched the wood crafted pieces with interest.
The girl noticed his gaze and smiled warmly, "Do you see anything you like, little one?"
Sol didn’t look at her but then he reached out and picked up a small figurine of Saintess Miella with the Dragon. He watched the figurine with utmost focus which made the girl lean over.
"Do you like it?" She asked, "I’ll give it to you for free, if you want it."
I cocked my brow, his adorable form really was easy on eyes for people to bestow him with gifts. Still, just as light is faster than sound, he only looked cuter until he opened his mouth.
"I don’t want it." He spoke placing it back and I resisted the urge to shrug, he only showed the rare bouts of his smile and kindness to random people.
Sol watched the figurine before he stepped back nearly bumping into someone before a voice fell on my ears.
"My Lord, this one is better." I turned my head and my pupils must have shrunk to pinpoints as a shocked yelp escaped my lips and the pink headed person’s head jerked looking around.
"Sol, hide! Hide now!" I mewled desperately and he quickly looked around before he dove into the narrow alleyway close by.
"Wh-What?" He asked.
"My brother! If he saw me, I bet my arm that he’ll recognize me and that will really complicate things."
"Brother?" Sol gave me a conflicted expression and I realised that he wasn’t introduced to my family properly yet.
"I’ll explain later," I said as I craned my head out of the edge to see Rune and Celestia at a stall looking at ribbons and trinkets.
"They’re out on a date..." I mumbled, "Hopefully, they’ll pass by without noticing us."
Sol peeked out as well watching Rune and Celestia before he glanced down at me.
"Young Duke Rune is your brother?" He asked and I hummed.
"So, you’re the daughter of Duke Aurelius." He concluded and I sighed.
"Yes, since you haven’t agreed for the adoption yet so, I didn’t tell you. But now that you are in on the secret, count yourself as a Ryujin, Sol." I said and he scoffed.
Sol didn’t walk out of the alleyway and we waited for a while until the finally passed by but just as Sol tried to walk out a tall, burly figure blocked our way.
"Look what we got here." The man spoke with a hint of smirk and Sol tried to sidestep without acknowledging him but he blocked our way again.
"Are you lost, little young Master? Is your maid looking for you?" He asked and my eyebrows twitched.
"Sol, we can’t fight. I’ll create a distraction, you make a run for it. Davian and others must be close by, you can find them quickly if you run out and shout, all right?" I instructed but just as I was preparing to leap at the man’s face the disfigure his ugly smirk, Sol tightened his grip on me.
"What the- Sol?!" I mewled and the man reached out to him but Sol ducked back and tried to run in the opposite direction but just as our luck had it, two more men appeared from that direction.
"Oh, what’s this?"
"A lost young Master." The man behind us said and the other two laughed.
"It’s a good catch," one of them commented and I felt my anger sizzle beneath my skin/fur.
It was stupid to try and fight these three men as they had an upperhand in all senses, I wasn’t in my original body and my mana was locked away so, our best bet were the Davian and others who were following us.
Since Sol had abandoned the idea of using me as a bait so, it was either to give in or try and fight. The chances of winning were nill.
"Hey system, can you make a concession here and give me some of my power? We’re in a pinch." I thought.
[Request denied.]
"Why?"
[The Host’s body isn’t strong enough to endure the mana more than what is provided. The risk of mana explosion or internal organs failure of the body prevails.]
"If I don’t take that chance there are high chances that we would definitely die here." I retorted.
But the system remained fixed on its side leaving me with no option but to fight tooth and nail to get out of this, literally.
"He’s too small and even that cat can fetch some price... Looks exotic." The men moved closer and I sighed calming my nerves.
"Sol, let’s do this again, I’ll distract them, do whatever you can, run out and scream. Got it?" I spoke again and felt his gripping me tightly.
"No," he said and I was taken aback.
"What?!"
"What? So, you won’t go with us like a good boy?" One of the men spoke and I didn’t even have a time to argue as I felt one large hand reaching out towards us.
My body moved on instinct as I lashed out, my sharp claws tearing through the palm making the man shout a strong of curses and the other two also broke into motion.
"What the-"
"Damn, this cat!"
My body wasn’t large enough to take on the three of them and having Sol to protect I was caught up.
I scratched and bit on the arms that approached us but soone enough I was ripped out of Sol’s arms making him yelp as he was gripped back by one man and the one who grabbed me slammed me on the ground.
The impact knocked the air out of my lungs and I distinctly heard the sound of my feeble ribs cracking. My vision swam as the metallic scent clogged my nostrils and mouth. I didn’t even have my passive skills.
I heard the men laughing and Sol staring at me with wide, terrified expression. He couldn’t use mana because of his curse, his body was just as weak at mine so, I could only stand back up for this fight. We couldn’t take a gamble here.
I pushed my sorry excuse of a body and got on all fours glaring at the three men who looked at me.
"That’s quite a determined cat," one of them laughed.
"Let’s just get rid of it quickly and move." Other said hastily.
The last one of them scooped Sol up while, one of them moved towards me. I dodged the first one’s attack and swiftly leapt over his shoulder reaching out for the second one behind him and but sharply onto his ear making him howl in pain.
The one behind me grabbed me and yanked, with the grip I had on the man’s ear, I was only pulled away while his ears in my mouth. He kept shouting and wailing in pain as he held the bleeding side of his head.
"Kill it! Kill it! Goddamnit!" The bleeding man shouted and the one who had me gripped my head before he squeezed it tight enough for me to see stars and I felt my skull crushing.
He then smashed me on the ground again and I could feel the agonizing pain all over my body as several crunches responded in my ringing ears at once.
I didn’t expect to die in this feeble body after doing all that I had done.
"Dear, Patrons. Hear my will, once I die, I’m going to haunt you till the end of time." I thought vengefully.
[Goddess of Wisdom says you won’t die.]
"Are you blind?"
[Defender of Divine Glory asks you to not worry.]
"I’m definitely haunting you three."
My eyesight was going in and out as I stared up at Sol who stared down at me, for some reason, there was no light in his eyes. He looked as if something had snapped within him.
Just as I was about to close my eyes his eyes started glowing blinding gold before my vision was enveloped in that light.
I felt as if I had died in that moment but then the light faded and I could hear the sounds of heartwrenching screams. The screams were so loud that they might have caught the attention of the people from outside the alley.
I heard the soft footfalls approach me and Sol’s pale face came into my vision. I tried to lift my appendage to reach out to him but I couldn’t even feel my body at this point.
[Supreme Healing Spell has been activated to heal the Host’s body.]
The notification pinged before my eyes and I felt Sol scoop me up before the familiar voices barged in.
"Sol!"
"Master!"
"What the hell?!"
Davian, Miri and Arian rushed in to see me in near dead state and Sol thankfully, unscathed- his heartbeats made me half my thought.
The sound was erratic and was growing slower and slower, I cursed myself to not realising that he had used his mana despite the clutches of curse and it must have made the curse react.
The Healing was going on rapidly on my body so, before Davian grabbed Sol’s collapsing body, I casted the final healing spell of the day on Sol.
