Chapter 473: 472. Day As A Feline (3)

Sol and I set out in a carriage arranged for us, I lay leisurely on the cushioned seat with Sol sitting in front of me. His gaze was observant and assessing, as if he was trying to decipher what was wrong with my body.

After a long moment of pondering, he finally seemed to give in on his own devices and asked, "Why are you like this all of a sudden?"

I looked at him, "I’m cursed."

[It is a reward for experienc-]

The system tried to correct but I shoved it’s notification away. For me it was a curse and no reward.

Sol’s eyes widened as he was shocked learning of that, "A-A curse?! But how... When?... Who?"

He couldn’t even make up his sentences properly so, I simply sighed and assured him, "Don’t worry, I’ll revert back to my original form till midnight."

"H-How do you know that?" He asked.

"I just know." I shrugged and he gave me a conflicted look.

"Who... did this to you?" He asked.

"A scamer." I answered feeling my tail flicker.

[It offends the system to be insulted like this.]

"Whoever said you are a scammer? Or is it that you understand the nature of your deeds that’s why your guilty speaks so, mighty system?" I retorted in a concealed condescending manner.

There was no response so, I took it as my win.

Sol still looked confused so, I simply sighed, "Don’t think too much about it. It’s just a spell gone wrong, I’ll be back to normal tonight so, let’s just enjoy today like this and I’ll take you out tomorrow and we’ll have a lot of fun."

Sol didn’t look impressed but he didn’t say anything.

I could feel his eyes on me before he asked, "You seem quite used to this body... Has this happened before?"

I looked at him, my tail flicking from left to right while my ears rotated over my head with curiosity.

"Not really, this is the first time that I’ve been reduced to an animal." I admitted.

Although, it would be alarmingly normal for me to jump from one body to another since I was already a Master of Disguises. I wouldn’t even live in my own skin for a whole day before using my disguise for my work. With the way I jumped between the identities of Reina and Ocean, only the skilled and seasoned actors would ever be able to match my par.

Either ways, it was exactly because of my being accustomed to move about in different kinds of bodies that I was able to adapt so well. Still, it did take some time for me to adapt to this cat’s body. The other disguises I had were of men and only men so, being an animal all of a sudden had knocked me off for a while but since I had no other choice but to adapt and move on, I did just that.

It would be a waste of efforts and time to keep arguing with the system or my Patrons and just take this as a lesson to never trust the lot.

The carriage stopped after a while and the coachman helped Sol down, Sol diligently carried me in his arms as he looked around the tall humans walking around.

The coachman looked a little concerned as he saw Sol and after seemingly pondering over he decided to speak.

"My Lord, if you must, please allow me to accompany you. I cannot let you go alone like this without a knight or a maid."

Sol looked up at him and then smiled, I stared at his face, this kid could smile?!

"Thank you for being concerned, but I’ll be fine." He said sounding affable and I was at a loss for words.

This child had never smiled at me before, but since he would occasionally smile at Kai so, I thought he would only show his kindness to those he was close with but also to this coachman?

Where did I fail in raising this kid?

All right, I didn’t raise him but I was looking after him and I had never been harsh on him, never abused him or did anything to hurt him but he would drop smiles at random strangers but not someone who wished to be his parent?

I was hurt.

Sol didn’t seem to notice my thoughts as he stepped ahead towards the sea of tall people.

He pulled his hood over his head while he looked around, the street was filled with the myriad of scents and sounds. The spicy and sweets scents wafted around with the people shouting and hollering.

Sol had the pouch of money with him and his little face held the expression of wonder as he looked upon the people and different stalls.

"Let’s start with that!" I spoke pointing at the stall which was selling spicy kebabs.

The scent was mouthwatering and somehow the scent seemed even more enticing for this body.

Sol moved forth and the stallkeeper looked down at the little boy and then smiled amicably.

"Oh, my! Little young man, aren’t you quite adorable? Would you like some kebabs?" He asked and Sol nodded.

"Two please." He spoke bring up two of his chubby fingers and I frowned.

"Why two? But more, we both are Dragons!" I spoke and he gave me a displeased look.

"Are you around only with your cat, young one? What about your parents or knights?" He asked clearly noticing the noble air of the said boy despite the simple looking outfit.

"I’m fine with this one," Sol said and the stallkeeper laughed while he handed two sticks to Sol.

I stretched my paws for my share but with the state of my limbs, I was incapable of holding it and eat gracefully. I shed tears for this and had to rely on Sol as he fed me.

The kebabs were tasty. Sol paid for it and we moved on about the other stalls eating and moving, I was happy enough but the drifting conversation from a couple of steps away from us was making me sigh.

"It’s good that he hasn’t gotten in any trouble yet."

"We should keep this distance, it seems like they haven’t noticed us."

"How on earth could they let such a tiny child to go on alone? Master is utterly powerless in his cats form."

The trio following us were none other than the future Grand Duke of Sestia, the future King of Denril and the present Queen of Mordino. I had peeked at them while eating to find them so awfully conspicuous among the crowd that I wondered if they were even trying to be inconspicuous in the first place.

"Stalking really isn’t Davian’s cup of tea." I mumbled to myself as I rode on Sol’s shoulder since he was carrying a cotton candy.

"Do you want some?" He asked bringing up a small bite and I waved my paw.

"No, I don’t like sweet things,"

"You ate the spicy and salty things earlier, even in a cat body you can keep up with your pickiness." He muttered and I narrowed my eyes.

"Look who’s talking," I spoke without extending the fact that Kai had actually managed to get him to stay back at Ryujin only by using the tasty food.

After walking for a while, Sol found a bench and he took a seat, I leapt down from his shoulder and landed beside him watching the hubbub around us. It was a festival all right so, everyone seemed like they were preparing something special. I could see the families strolling about with the parents holding the hands of their kids and buying them delicious food or toys. The couples who were on a date seemed to be enjoying the company of their other half while the atmosphere only added to their sweet memories.

Amidst these was a boy and his cat. It actually sounded like a Hans Christian Andersen short story. freewebnøvel.coɱ

I looked up at Sol who stared at those people with no emotion on his face, his eyes seemingly like the golden plates staring off into the space. I had no idea what was going in that pretty little head of his. What part of this crowd his attention? What kind of people appealed him?

I inadvertently spoke, "Do you like humans?"

Sol blinked before he looked down at me, "Do you?"

There was no hint in his tone so, I just enlightened him with my perspective, "I don’t like them,"

Sol’s eyebrows twitched and I added, "The humans who give in to their wretched desires and don’t look back and forth before trampling over other people’s lives. I hate that lot. I specifically don’t like those who are too righteous... what would righteousness do when the lives of their loved ones are on line... They simply toss away the lives of the ones they should protect with the excuse of it being for the greater good. I wonder what greater good lies for them after."

Sol observed me as I sat down watching the humans around and gestured to them with my chin, "These kind of normal people are my favourites. They are simple folk, they don’t get into complicated affairs, they accept the grace given to them and criticise the injustice. They don’t have power to abuse, nor are they too weak to not fight. They know what they need to protect and what they need to sacrifice."

"After seeing all kinds of humans around, I have come to realise of what sort to not be." I concluded and was slightly taken aback when I felt Sol’s hand land over my head.

He brushed it gently while I let my head rest over his thigh watching the people going about their lives.
