Chapter 81: The Bandit Raid Part 4

After Kai and Rick returned to camp, the other S-Ranks were already there waiting for them, specifically Rick. They informed him about some of the assassins managing to get away, but he told them that everything was fine.

All of the adventurers were gathered around waiting for the S-Ranks to tell them what was going on so they could understand what to do next.

’Now, time for the backup plan. Since some assassins managed to escape, they should also be aware of this, so I don’t need to contact them.’ Rick smiled internally before clearing his throat.

"I’m sure everyone is utterly confused and deeply heartbroken after what has just happened over the past hour. I, too, am deeply ashamed by how many we lost tonight. However, I’m more ashamed by the lack of security our camp has."

Everyone started murmuring, wondering what he meant.

"Because I trusted you all, I put the C-Ranks in charge of lookout. Not only were you all grateful to be of use, but you also promised me, no, promised US that everything would be handled properly. Yet when I wake up, I see dead bodies. The bodies of our friends! Our family!"

’He’s drawing a wedge between everyone and the C-Ranks. Not just them, but even a wedge between the C-Ranks themselves. The people with actual brains won’t fall for Rick’s bullshit, but the die-hard, dick sucking bastards who want to please the S-Ranks will agree with Rick.’ Kai thought to himself.

"Yeah! He’s right! We’re only C-Ranks! The B or A-Ranks should have handled keeping watch during the night!" One C-Rank yelled.

"What are you even saying?! You’re a C-Rank too!"

"Yeah, but it was your party who suggested keeping watch. Now look what happened! Your whole party was wiped out, and we lost 100 C-Ranks and 50 B-Ranks! This wouldn’t have happened if we just allowed the A-Ranks to do that job instead."

’And there it is.’ Kai sighed.

No one saw it, but Rick was beaming in delight. He knew the C-Ranks would start bickering with one another, and this would lead to them leaving the raid party. His plan was working in full effect.

"This is why I fucked your wife, you stupid bitch!" A mage pulled out his wand.

"The fuck did you say!" The man drew his sword.

"You heard me! And your son is actually mine! When you were off earning money, I was banging your wife! She screamed my name and begged me to impregnate her!"

’Hold on, I like that guy’s style.’ Kai nodded in approval.

"Uhh, Kai? What’s going on here?" Amaya wondered.

"Ahh, let me explain. But don’t be shocked, okay?"

They both nodded.

’So that guy, Rick-’

"Oh god!"

"What the fuck?!"

Amaya and Gwen didn’t expect Kai to speak in their head and immediately got startled. They looked at each other, both knowing what the other was thinking, then looked back at Kai.

"I said, don’t be startled." He shook his head.

"Yeah, about what’s going on! Not about speaking in our fucking heads!" Gwen hissed

"Yeah, yeah, my bad. Anyway, as I was saying."

’That guy Rick, the S-Rank, he’s actually working with the Jabber Bandits. Let me tell you everything...’

"Wow. This is the second time we’ve come across someone using people to resurrect the demon king." Gwen wasn’t shocked about the cult, but more so about Rick being a follower of it. He was literally hiding in plain sight.

"You son of a bitch! I’ll kill you!" The man shouted.

Amaya pointed at the people who were about to fight. "We should probably stop them." If what Kai said was the truth, then having them kill each other would only aid Rick.

"Yeah, I got it." Kai threw his dagger between the two men, forcing them to stop in their tracks. "Stop fighting. It’s not going to change what happened. Instead, direct your anger toward the people who did this, the Jabber Bandits."

"But he fucked my wife!" The man yelled in anger.

"Okay? Kill him after the raid is over. We don’t have time to be bickering with each other when there are more important things to do. What do you think the Guildmaster will say when she learns about this?"

Everyone froze, then backed down. No one wanted to get on the bad side of Kassandra.

"Still, I can’t let this slide!" The man pointed his sword toward the mage.

"You wanna go? Fine. Once I’m done with you, I’ll have your wife all to myself."

"Bastard!"

’Do I have to talk to these two like their kids or something? But that mage is great at ragebating, I give him a 10/10. Extra points for getting the wife pregnant as well.’

"Listen, if you take one more step, I’ll cut off your head. Try it, I dare you." Kai warned.

"Hmph!" The swordsman sheathed his sword and turned around.

"I fucked your sister as well. Your nephew is my son as well."

"YOU FUCKING BASTARD!"

’Oho, man, that guy is fucking great! I gotta buy him a drink after this is done.’ Kai stepped forward and cleanly cut off the swordsman’s neck with ease. It was so fast that even the S-Ranks almost couldn’t see Kai move.

"Anyone else?" He asked.

Everyone shook their heads to the side.

"Great, now since we’re all up and full of energy, let’s pack up and get moving." Everyone complied, and the camp was cleared out within 20 minutes.

’Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! That bastard ruined everything! I was so close! Now I have to actually attack Carlos! Fuck! But how is that bastard so strong? I could barely see him move! Is he faking his rank?’ Rick was glaring at Kai with rage, holding his sword so tightly that it started shaking.

"Are you okay, Rick?" A dwarf woman asked

"Huh? Oh, Sasha, yeah, I’m fine. Just angry at those assassins."

"Yeah, I hear ya. Can’t believe that caught us off guard like that. We’d better stay vigilant next time. Anyway, we’re ready to leave, so just join us when you’re done with...whatever you’re doing."

"Yeah, yeah, I will."
