Chapter 142: Chapter 142 There’s No Way She’s Coming Into This Family

Mrs. Lewis’s sharp remark froze the whole room; the air turned heavy in an instant.

Oliver and Samuel, who were halfway down the stairs, paused mid-step.

Tristan’s face darkened. He pulled Megan away from Stella with obvious frustration in his tone. "Nobodies off the sidewalk? Mrs. Lewis, you can insult me all you want, but don’t talk about my wife like that. This is the first time we’re meeting, and I don’t get why you’re already so hostile toward Megan. If being your goddaughter is this hard, then forget it— we’re not interested."

He pulled out the car key Zachary had gifted them from Megan’s purse, tossed it on the coffee table, then wrapped an arm around Megan’s waist and strode out of the Lewis family estate.

By the time Stella rushed out, their car had already disappeared down the road.

Her face turned pale. For years, she had been plagued by longing for her daughter. The moment she saw Megan, it felt like the sky had cleared for the first time in ages.

It had all felt like fate. Megan agreed to be her goddaughter— something that should’ve been a joyful miracle. But with one harsh line, Mrs. Lewis completely severed that connection.

Stella turned back to face Mrs. Lewis, her face brimming with anger. But no matter what, she couldn’t argue with an elder.

"And what? Am I wrong? You’ve been obsessed with finding your daughter for years— doing DNA tests every other week like you’ve lost your mind. And now what? You’re just grabbing random girls, calling them your goddaughter? At this rate, how many are you planning to collect?"

Still woozy, Stella collapsed to the floor in a faint.

Zachary rushed over and scooped her up. He turned to his mother, his voice heavy with reproach. "Mom, you went way over the line today. You don’t want to acknowledge her, fine. But those words? You embarrassed the whole family and damaged the relationship with the Reids."

He looked to Oliver. "Call Dr. Green."

Oliver turned and headed upstairs to get the family doctor.

As Zachary carried Stella up the stairs, Mrs. Lewis sat stunned, her hand twisting the prayer beads so hard that the string snapped— beads bounced across the floor with sharp clicks.

"What a disgrace... what a sin this is!" she cried.

Mr. Lewis suddenly stood, his voice grave. "Yuxian, you went way too far today!" With that, he turned on his heel and left.

Amelia crouched on the ground, carefully picking up the scattered beads one by one.

She reached for the last one— but a slippered foot suddenly landed on it.

Looking up slowly, her eyes followed the long legs to find Samuel standing above her, his gaze indifferent. "What did you say to Grandma?"

Tears streamed down Amelia’s face as she shoved her hand under his foot and shook her head vigorously. "Nothing, I didn’t say anything! You’ve got it all wrong, Sam!"

Mrs. Lewis shot up from the sofa and marched over, delivering a harsh slap to Samuel without hesitation.

"You stepped on her hand?! How could you treat Amelia like that? Do you even have a heart?"

Samuel stepped back, slowly licking his back teeth in annoyance. "You’ve all always been blinded by appearances. When will you start seeing the truth for once? She’s a manipulative faker— or is that too hard to tell?"

Amelia buried her face in her knees and began to sob harder.

With trembling fingers, Mrs. Lewis pointed at him, rage shaking her voice. "Get out! The Lewis family doesn’t need a grandson like you. Get out now!"

Samuel gave a cold snort. "You think I actually want to stay here? Don’t worry— I’m out."

Mrs. Lewis watched him stride away, chest rising and falling with fury.

Amelia stood shakily and helped her to the sofa. "Grandma, don’t be mad, I’m okay. It didn’t even hurt."Mrs. Lewis looked at Amelia’s swollen fingers, heart aching with pity. "That little punk’s completely out of control! Look what he did to your hand. He must’ve stomped really hard."

Amelia sobbed, tears streaking her cheeks. "It’s okay, he didn’t mean it. Please don’t blame him. He just really cares about Megan and probably got upset seeing all that."

"Don’t worry, Amelia. As long as I’m here, that girl isn’t stepping foot into this house!" Mrs. Lewis stroked her hand gently. "She’s not even a real daughter. Even if Megan were our biological child, without my blessing, she’s not walking through that front door!"

Just then, Jason walked into the manor. "Grandma, you’re back? I just saw Samuel leaving and he’s not answering his phone. What happened?"

Mrs. Lewis waved him over. "Jason, there you are. Let me take a look—getting more handsome by the day."

He sat next to her, but she suddenly grabbed his hand and Amelia’s, putting them together.

Jason quickly pulled his hand back, frowning. "Grandma, what are you doing?"

"Jason, look, you’ve been single for so long, and Amelia’s been around forever... maybe you two could—"

Jason shot to his feet. "Grandma, this is ridiculous. Amelia’s like a sister to us."

"But there’s no blood relation..."

He cut her off, voice firm. "Grandma, I don’t care what the other cousins think—none of the four of us see her that way."

Mrs. Lewis huffed. "So all four of you are into that Megan now?"

Jason raised an eyebrow. "You know about Megan?"

He figured Oliver and Samuel must’ve spilled the beans about who Megan really was.

Mrs. Lewis pointed at him angrily. "You’re all completely bewitched by that little vixen! I’m telling you right now, as long as I’m still breathing, there’s no way she’s coming into this family. I don’t care if she’s a foster daughter or the real deal!"

Jason finally understood what was going on. He shot Amelia a cold glance, then turned and walked out.

Mrs. Lewis watched him leave, chest heaving in frustration. "Dear heavens, what did I do to deserve this?"

Amelia held her softly, trying to soothe her. "Grandma, calm down. You’re home now, this should’ve been a happy day. Don’t worry about me. Everyone in the family treats me really well."

Mrs. Lewis sighed. "You’re the only one with a good head on your shoulders."

At that moment, Oliver came downstairs, just in time to hear that last line. He smirked and walked straight out of the house without saying a word.

The crisp autumn wind slipped in through the half-open window, brushing across Oliver’s windswept bangs as he drove off.

One hand on the wheel, the other fished out a cigarette. The tip flickered to life, smoke curling around his sharp features.

He’d heard that right after he dropped off Amelia yesterday, screaming came from the villa soon after. Some even said she’d been assaulted. At first, guilt had crept in, but now, after today’s drama, whatever sympathy he had left was gone—just like the smoke, scattered by the wind.

He pulled out his phone and called Zachary. It rang for a bit before it was picked up.

With a light tone, he said, "Dad, I found little sis."

Zachary’s voice came through, slightly breathless. "Where is she?"

Oliver chuckled quietly. "The one who just got kicked out of the house today."
