Chapter 133: Chapter 133 Need a DNA Test Done

Tristan gave a slight nod, and the two walked in together.

As they moved down the cold, dim corridor, they stepped into the morgue.

There was a body lying on the autopsy table, covered with a white sheet. Ryan stepped up and pulled the sheet back. "See if this is Wyatt."

The corpse’s facial livor stood out starkly against the pale skin, with dried blood still clinging at the corner of his mouth.

This guy used to be arrogant as hell—untouchable even. Now, all that’s left is a cold, lonely corpse. That smugness? Gone with him.

Tristan barely gave the body a glance before looking away. He could recognize Wyatt even if he were reduced to ashes.

Ever since he came back to the Reid family, Wyatt and Sophia had made his life miserable. That went on for years, up until he left for college abroad.

Now Wyatt was dead, and his mother was sentenced to execution next month.

Sophia had filed an appeal, sure—but Tristan had pulled some strings and had it shut down, just like that.

Justice served.

"I’ll have someone collect the body." Tristan said calmly, then turned to leave.

"Was it you who had the hotel murder suspect taken away last night, and then sent the body back after he died?"

Tristan paused mid-step, looked back, and smirked. "Captain Mitchell, with that kind of imagination, you really should be writing fiction. Instead of guessing, maybe try finding concrete leads. These cases are way too much like what happened 25 years ago—they’re serious. You should focus on tracking real evidence, not playing detective with your gut. I’m a law-abiding citizen. If the police need my help, I’m happy to cooperate."

With that, Tristan walked out without another word.

Ryan looked at Wyatt’s lifeless face, air puffing out in a heavy sigh.

These past few days had been a nightmare. This was the trickiest case he’d ever worked on. Just when he thought he caught a lead, it vanished. And now, with roots tracing back 25 years, odds are some big-shot is tangled up in this mess.

He rubbed at his temples, then pulled the sheet back over Wyatt’s face.

After walking out, Tristan got in his car, lit a cigarette, and called Cameron.

Holding the steering wheel with one hand, he flicked ash from his cigarette. "Let Sophia know Wyatt’s dead."

"On it."

"Also, upgrade the security systems at the old house. And double the protection around the Shaw family."

"Yes, sir."

As the call ended, another notification lit up his screen.

"Tristan, rumor has it you knocked off Wyatt. That true?"

Tristan ended the call without a word and drove off.

But of course, some people just didn’t get the hint. Ignoring the call wasn’t enough—he actually showed up at the office.

Tristan barely lifted his eyes before going back to his paperwork, treating Kevin like empty air.

Kevin flopped into a chair opposite him. "Be real with me. Did you do it?"

"No."

"For real?"

Tristan closed the folder. "You’re already doubting me. What’s the point of asking? He died from a poison outbreak and didn’t even make it to the hospital. What’s that got to do with me?"

"Poison, huh?" Kevin scratched his head. "Didn’t Molly have the same thing?"

"You’re not as dumb as you look."

Kevin pouted. "So then how did Wyatt even show up again?""He posed as Cloud Robinson and teamed up with the Bennette and Channing families to bid on the Wanlong property. Looks like he was trying to bring down the Four Families in one go. I’ve got a strong feeling the Richmond are behind it—payback." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Kevin let out a low whistle, clearly spooked. "Are we talking about ghosts of the Richmonds now? You sure?"

Tristan gave a light laugh. "Caught one of the core players last night. Too bad he’d already been poisoned—those guys are slick, never leave evidence behind. Keep an eye on Chloe, I don’t think she’s done yet."

Hearing that, Kevin finally lost his usual cocky grin. "Got it."

After Kevin left, Tristan got on a call with Oliver. He gave a quick rundown of last night’s events and told him to stay alert for any changes.

Once the call ended, Oliver’s face turned grim.

Shane Clark noticed and walked over. "Mr. Lewis, something wrong?"

Without answering, Oliver suddenly snapped the pen in his hand in two. "The one who killed Andy is dead. Too easy a way out. Tristan says this all connects back to the Richmonds from years ago. Recheck on Amelia—see if she’s stirred up anything recently. If they reached out to her, she’s got some value to them."

Meridian University.

Thanks to the short distance between Building One and Two, Megan and Rachel were just walking over after class.

"Ever since that jewelry design contest flop, Amelia’s been flying low. Probably too embarrassed to show her face..." Rachel rambled on.

Megan, on the other hand, wasn’t listening at all. Her mind was still racing through possible suspects behind everything.

Suddenly, Rachel tapped her shoulder hard. "Oh! Heard there’s this totally gorgeous new professor in our department!"

Megan chuckled. "Seriously? You into women now?"

Rachel rolled her eyes. "What? No! He’s a guy—super hot!" she said, practically drooling.

Just then, Megan pointed ahead. "Hey look, it’s Kai!"

Rachel snapped up like a meerkat, craning her neck to look. When she realized she’d been tricked, she pounced on Megan. "You little brat!"

Megan just laughed, walking backward. "Catch me if you can! That’s what you get for falling for it!"

She turned to run—only to bump right into someone’s solid chest.

"Whoa there, Megan, trying to fall into my arms?"

She looked up to see Samuel grinning down at her with a sunny-boy smile. "Wonder if Tristan’s gonna be jealous now. Also—ow, my new shoes!"

Megan quickly stepped back. "Not my fault you were in the landing zone!"

"So... have you thought about what my mom brought up? You know, become her goddaughter? Total win for you!"

"Huh?" Megan blinked, caught off guard. "Oh, that... I meant to talk to Tristan about it, just been swamped lately and totally forgot."

Samuel laughed it off, giving her a friendly pat on the shoulder. "No rush. Mom’s just really hoping you’ll say yes."

Megan just smiled and pulled Rachel away.

Samuel watched them walk off, then glanced down at the single strand of hair in his palm, the corner of his lips curling upward.

He spun around, heading out of campus while dialing a number.

"Brandon, you busy?"

"Depends who’s asking."

"It’s me."

"Then no, I’m not."

Samuel rolled his eyes. "Need a DNA test done."

Brandon stepped out of his lab, peeling off gloves and goggles. "Where’d you get it this time? You’re usually full of nonsense."

"It’s from Megan."

The mention of her name flashed across Brandon’s mind in an instant. No hesitation now.

"Bring it to me yourself."
