Chapter 708: Chapter 708: Family Disgrace Should Not be Publicized_1

The name Tang Rou made Li Qing frown slightly.

"Didn’t Xu Sanwang’s daughter-in-law just come over last year? How did she end up getting involved in this matter, and even the first to do so?" Li Qing asked, quite puzzled.

Sanhe Village was actually not small, and Li Qing was not very familiar with Xu Sanwang’s family situation.

However, Li Qing had attended the wedding gift-giving when Xu Sanwang’s son got married last year, so he knew about this matter.

Qin Wenjun, as the village secretary, knew almost everything about every household. She recounted as if listing treasured items, "Xu Sanwang and his wife are almost sick all year round, his wife is mentally ill, the kind who grabs a kitchen knife and starts chopping wildly when she has an episode."

"When they married off Tang Rou, they hid all these issues. It wasn’t until after she entered the family that Tang Rou discovered these things, and then she adamantly refused to accept the situation. Later on, Xu Sanwang’s son moved out of the old house, and the young couple set up another home for themselves."

"But Xu Sanwang’s son is quite young, it seems like he has no concept of taking care of the family. He went out to work, and, from what I understand, he hardly takes care of the family at all. It’s always Tang Rou who has to call and remind him every month to send some living expenses before he remembers to do so."

Having heard this, Li Qing roughly guessed why Tang Rou, as a new bride, would do such a thing. The fundamental reason was probably a lack of money. He handed another bundle of banknotes to Qin Wenjun, "Given the situation with Xu Sanwang’s own family, they’re probably not going to think about supporting their daughter-in-law. I guess they’re still waiting for her to take care of them."

"Exactly, Xu Sanwang’s wife comes to her son’s new house every once in a while to berate her daughter-in-law, accusing her of being an ungrateful wretch that cost them thirty thousand yuan, and all around the village, she badmouths her daughter-in-law whenever she meets someone. Tang Rou’s reputation has actually been ruined by her mother-in-law. Sometimes it makes me so angry listening to it, because a thirty-thousand-yuan dowry is practically nothing nowadays," Qin Wenjun said, shaking her head.

Li Qing let out a sigh of relief; sometimes these trivial family matters were just headache-inducing to listen to.

"Alright, I’ll go talk to Tang Rou tomorrow and see what’s going on with her!"

Qin Wenjun urged, "Go now, why wait for tomorrow? I reckon Tang Rou is probably hanging around near the square right now."

"It’s not urgent at this moment. Didn’t you complain about not having a man around the house? I’ll give you folks a hand," Li Qing said with a smile.

"Oh please, as if we can’t carry on when you’re not here?" Qin Wenjun said irritably.

Li Qing chuckled, "Fine, I’ll go see what’s up with these ladies. Tasting ’a thousand men’s kiss on the coral lips,’ sleeping ’in the embrace of ten thousand on the jade arms’ probably isn’t all that delightful for them either."

"Stop your babbling, just go!" Qin Wenjun yelled.

Li Qing laughed, washed his hands, and strolled over to the square.

But Qin Wenjun’s guess was wrong; Tang Rou was not at the square. After asking around, Li Qing learned that Tang Rou hadn’t come out today and was likely at home.

Li Qing thought it over; since Qin Wenjun was eager to solve this issue, he might as well visit Tang Rou at home.

Although he wasn’t very familiar with Xu Sanwang’s family situation, he still knew where their house was located. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Down a ditch, across the river, and just a bit further, and he would be there.

Tang Rou and her husband’s new house wasn’t far from Xu Sanwang’s old one, just separated by a patch of woods.

When Li Qing arrived at the entrance, the gate was wide open, and there were bursts of intense arguing sounds coming from inside, as if a fight was taking place.

He hurriedly quickened his pace and rushed into the courtyard.

In the courtyard with only two rooms, Xu Sanwang and his spouse were frantically smashing things, with blankets, clothes, and various household items strewn all over the place. The couple kept cursing while they threw things around, the vulgarity of their language made even Li Qing cringe.

In a corner of the courtyard, a woman who appeared to be in her late twenties stood calmly with a sharp knife in hand. She wasn’t making a fuss or intervening, just watching the older couple wreak havoc with a cold eye.

Li Qing actually didn’t have much impression of Tang Rou, only remembering her as a polite woman who liked to smile and greet people from afar, and they hardly had any interactions before.

"Stop it! What on earth are you two doing?" Li Qing shouted.

Xu Sanwang had a bunch of clothes in his hand and was about to light them with a lighter when he heard the shout and noticed Li Qing in the courtyard.

"Qingzi, what brings you here? We’ve got some trouble at home today, and it’s not convenient to entertain guests. If you need something, come another day," said Xu Sanwang, who was as thin as a zombie, with an awkward wave of his hand.

It’s a common saying that one should not air one’s dirty laundry in public, and Xu Sanwang’s face must have been hard to save upon being seen in this state by an outsider.

"Both of you, just stop for a moment. What in the world is going on here?" Li Qing asked.

"Qingzi, our family matters are none of your business," Xu Sanwang said, waving his hand.

"Your family matters, I really shouldn’t be meddling, but looking at you two like this, it seems I can’t just walk away!" Li Qing said, "Your son has already split the family property with you, and you two barging into your son’s house like this is akin to burglary, you understand? If I don’t stop you now and this escalates into a bigger issue, you’ll have to be taken to the station for a chat, get it?"

Although Xu Sanwang spoke politely, his ferocious-looking partner instantly lost his temper and, pointing at Li Qing’s nose and hopping madly, began to curse, "You little brat, stop talking nonsense. This is my son’s house, what burglary are you talking about?"

"It does count, strictly speaking, this is now the house of your son and daughter-in-law, it has nothing to do with you two old folks legally, it’s their joint property. You’re both getting on in years; getting locked up for ten or eight years over this would be a bad deal," Li Qing said.

"You may not listen to me, but I can’t just turn my head and walk away having seen this. Otherwise, I’ll call the cops, let them judge the situation for you."

"You little punk, just because you have some money now, you think you’re something special," Xu Sanwang’s partner shouted fiercely. "I remember how poor your family used to be, so don’t you start acting like a big shot in front of us."

"Stop your yapping at me, I’m giving you a piece of advice out of respect for the people in the village, otherwise, I’d have called the cops long ago!" Li Qing suddenly became furious. "This has nothing to do with whether I’m rich or not, talk to me with some respect."

"What can you do if I don’t talk to you respectfully? Maybe you’ve slept with this harlot too, and that’s why you’re so eager to take her side?" Xu Sanwang’s partner yelled hoarsely, looking menacing.

Li Qing took out his phone directly, "Nice words don’t work on you, do they? Fine, wait for your turn to be locked up, you’re just too spoiled!"
