Chapter 47: The Goblin Slayer

Ethan was confused, as if in a trance.

His sword cut without him controlling it, growing faster with every drop of blood it spilled.

Was this what they called combat enlightenment?

He didn’t know, but he was certain he wanted to make the most of it.

[You have struck terror into the hearts of the goblins of the Eternal Forest; you have received a heroic title: "The Goblin Slayer"]

[Title: The Goblin Slayer

Effect: +1 Prestige, +20% Fear among greenskins. (Upgradable) 0/100 goblins until the next title level.]

[You were the first Golden Lord to obtain a heroic title! +5 premium gacha tickets, +1 prestige.]

[A global announcement has been sent to all Golden Lords.]

Ethan couldn’t care less about those system notifications, though he was a bit confused by the message stating he was the first Golden Lord to obtain a heroic title.

Was there a difference between this title and the one he had before?

In the end, he just ignored it.

A quick glance was enough to bring a faint smile to his lips, but he did nothing but continue killing goblins, taking down six more before stopping.

The creatures, once numbering eighty, had been reduced to just a few stragglers, the survivors quickly scattering and fleeing as fast as they could.

With a sigh, his eyes focused on the guard, who quickly cleared the goblins surrounding Alaric, allowing him to fight the hobgoblin freely.

Neither of them was in good shape.

Alaric had a wound on his leg, and the hobgoblin chieftain had lost his right eye, screaming in agony like a wounded beast filled with rage.

Ethan approached from behind with quick steps, barely giving the guard time to react.

His sword pierced the air in a downward arc, aimed at the hobgoblin’s back.

The beast stopped the club mid-swing, its brutal barrage of blows toward Alaric ceasing abruptly.

"Coward... hooman..." The beast’s eyes rolled back, a blade protruding from its chest, clearly piercing its heart.

Its legs gave way. With a bloody gurgle and a sound that sounded more like a song from hell, the creature fell to its knees and then collapsed to the ground.

[You killed: 1x hobgoblin, +50% XP]

[XP bar full, accumulated XP will be added after stage advancement.]

Ethan looked at that notification, a soft smile spreading across his face as he gripped his own sword.

There was a burning wound on his right arm and the blood flowed unceasingly, the blade’s hilt nearly slipping from his bloodied grip.

It hurt like hell, but he didn’t want to show it.

Evelyn, who had also leveled up while killing the goblins, quickly took her place beside him, gripping the handle of her axe tightly.

"So... are you going to show your true colors, or are you just going to keep exuding that fucking murderous intent?" Ethan laughed, tapping the ground lightly with his sword.

The metallic clangs echoed, each one making the frown on Alaric’s face deepen even further.

"You die today, brat. It doesn’t matter if you have some pathetic plan or if you’re just a bastard with more balls than brains." Alaric growled. "Now get out of my way; I’ll take care of you after I kill that whore by your side."

"I’m not your mother, pig." Evelyn didn’t even bother to retort, merely lifting her face arrogantly.

’Ethan... if you really have a trick up your sleeve, you’d better reveal it now!’ She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, worried.

She could easily kill Alaric in a one-on-one fight, but would Ethan be able to handle the other guards?

And then there were those archers—wait!

Evelyn’s eyes widened as she looked toward the archers.

They were calm and relaxed, knowing their leader’s plan had already succeeded.

One of them, sitting quietly, stood up, grabbed his bow and arrow, and then aimed at Evelyn’s ample, luscious cleavage.

"It’s a shame for such perfect beauty to die like this." The archer smiled, ready to release the arrow.

But just then, he felt a chill run down his spine, a voice that wasn’t his companion’s echoing behind him.

"A shame, indeed."

The archer didn’t have time to scream. A powerful hand covered his mouth, and a dagger pierced his back several times.

Grunts of pain echoed, his eyes rolling back as he watched his companion meet the same fate.

Following Evelyn’s gaze, Ethan smiled, remembering the seventh item he had won from those premium gacha tickets.

[Name: Low-Rank Soldier Summoning Scroll.

Description: Summons a platoon of twenty level-fifteen soldiers, led by a level-thirty captain.

Their talent ranges from rank E to rank D, their initial loyalty is 60%, and they are already equipped with basic weapons and armor.

Rank: E]

It was a considerably low-rank item, but its use was extremely efficient.

Twenty trained soldiers and a second-stage captain, all at least partially loyal to Ethan.

Wasn’t that exactly what he needed for Goldenveil’s defenses?

"You..." Alaric spun around suddenly, sensing dozens of auras surrounding them.

The strongest possessed power no less than his own, exuding a powerful murderous intent.

"You... contacted outside forces?" Alaric roared. "You treacherous bastard."

"They aren’t outside forces; they’re my men, loyal to me and no one else." Ethan spat, stepping forward. "Unlike you."

"Now tell me, what is your plan? What gave you the confidence to keep Goldenveil standing after killing me?"

As he spoke, the guards he had summoned in the forest a few nights earlier approached.

Their leader was a man with cold eyes and a composed face, no older than thirty. He carried a sword and a shield, his black beard always neatly trimmed.

It was Doran, a second-stage warrior and captain of the small guard Ethan had summoned.

"My lord, we’ve dealt with the archers. Shall I dispose of these?" Doran asked, drawing his sword.

"No..." Ethan shook his head, savoring the look of fear that was finally beginning to appear on Alaric’s face.

"Alaric, I believe the wound on your leg isn’t too bad, is it?" Ethan’s lips curved into a smile. "Fight me, and I’ll give you the chance to die by my blade."
