THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 98: Losers From The Beazell Family
"I did and his assistant assured me that he was going to pass the message across to him."
Ariel couldn’t wrap her head around why it feels as if her boss was avoiding the handsome President Shawn Hudson.
Although she hadn’t met him before, but from what others said about him, he was every woman’s dream and still single.
I wonder why my boss would let go of such an outstanding man like President Hudson. Not only is he handsome as rumored but he is stinkingly wealthy.
If it were to be me, I would grab this opportunity with both my hands and legs.
Oblivious of Ariel’s mind that has gone into fantasy mood, Kathleen remarked,
"My father had asked me to meet him somewhere, so I’ll be leaving first."
She walked towards her car, then remembered that Ariel left her car in the company that morning.
"But I will have to drop you off where you can easily haul a cab since you didn’t come in your car."
When Kathleen didn’t get Ariel’s response after waiting for more than a minute, she glanced beside her and noticed that Ariel was deeply lost in thought and was no longer paying attention to her.
She stopped, but Ariel was still walking ahead not aware that Kathleen had stopped.
As Kathleen watched Ariel walk past her car, she was at a loss for words. ’This is quite unusual. What has come over her all of a sudden?’
"Ariel Stanford," yelled Kathleen.
It would please you to know that Ariel was already thinking about how a "Prince Charming" will come to look for her in her place of work and propose to her while everyone is busy urging her to say yes. She was at the point where she would respond when Kathleen’s call brought her back to reality.
She stopped and saw that her boss was no longer beside her. She turned around with an apologetic smile on her face. "I’m sorry Boss," she said and walked back to meet Kathleen who was already standing beside her car.
"Are you alright?" Kathleen’s tone was etched with concern as she opened the car.
"No. I mean, Yes Boss, I’m Ok.
Kathleen was still not convinced, "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"
"I’m perfectly fine, Boss." Ariel insisted,
"If you say so. Get into the car," Kathleen shrugged and began to count as she strapped on her seatbelt, "5, 4, 3, 2,..., here it comes,"
"Boss?" Ariel called out after a failed attempt to win the inner battle she has been fighting within herself.
Kathleen chuckled, she already knew something was bothering her by virtue of the relationship they had developed over the few weeks they’ve worked together.
Ariel had also taken her, not just as a boss, but someone she could confide in which she wouldn’t do with others based on past bitter experiences.
"Are you ready to talk now?" Kathleen asked as her eyes took in Ariel’s countenance who was obviously still struggling.
"Can I ask you something Boss?" Ariel lowered her head and uttered hesitantly. She didn’t know what might be the outcome of her boldness but she couldn’t resist the urge any longer.
"Mm-hmm. Go on," Kathleen responded nonchalantly.
After a moment of hesitation, Ariel made up her mind to bite the bullet. Afterall she had already taken the first step.
"Do you hate President Hudson?"
Kathleen momentarily stopped her action of turning on the ignition, her sharp gaze falling on Ariel’s face.
Ariel instantly regretted her presumptuous behavior just now, but it was already too late to retract the words that had left her mouth.
After what seemed like eternity to Ariel, Kathleen’s voice finally responded.
"What gave you the illusion that I hate him?"
Ariel scrutinized her Boss’s expression to see if she could have a glimpse of her emotions.
Seeing that her expression showed nothing but curiosity, her hanging heart finally settled down and she released a deep breath.
"Everyone says that President Hudson is irresistibly handsome, and for more than two occasions you’ve canceled your appointments with him. So...," Ariel trailed off, not sure how to put the next words.
"So," Kathleen prompted, her eyes never leaving Ariel’s hands that she had been clasping and unclasping as she spoke.
"I was wondering if you were indirectly avoiding meeting him as you don’t like him."
Kathleen snorted coldly, "Handsome, of course he is handsome."
"Yes, I knew it. My boss is not that blind that she wouldn’t admit the obvious," Ariel flashed a triumphant smile and cheered inwardly, however Kathleen’s next words proved to her that her celebration was way too early.
"For your information, I am not "most women," Kathleen announced and drove off.
Ariel didn’t know whether to feel pity for her or praise her strange "high standard"
When Kathleen pulled up in front of Kingpin Cafe where her father had chosen for them to meet, she did not fail to notice the conspicuous red Ferrari that was packed there.
After entering the cafe, Kathleen pulled out her phone and was about to give her dad a call to inform him that she had arrived when she heard a sarcastic voice speaking behind her.
"Look who we have here, if it isn’t the shameless gold digger?"
Kathleen did not care about the person speaking since she was sure she was not the one being referred to.
"Hey, stop there, you unfaithful wench. How dare you ignore me?"
She was forced to stop dialing the number when she felt a hand pull her back.
"Who the hell are you?" Kathleen glared at the woman whom she obviously had no impression about.
"The woman sneered in disdain, "How will you know who I am when you are busy looking for the next available rich man to trap?"
Initially she didn’t want to banter words with her but she knew the woman would not stop if she didn’t put her in her place.
"Watch what you say, old woman. How did I offend you?"
"What did you just call me?" The woman yelled, her face twisting in anger.
"Why are you barking ?" Kathleen sneered as she looked down at the small woman. "Are you not an old hag?"
Before she knew what was happening, the woman raised her hand to send a slap to Kathleen’s face but her hand got ceased midair.
"What do you think you are doing?" Kathleen demanded, her nonchalant expression turning grim and intimidating.
"Before you think of slapping someone next time, remember to check if your hand is long enough to reach the other person’s face."
She flung off the hand she was holding and wiped her hands as if she just handled dirt.
She didn’t expect that as soon as she let go of the woman’s hand, the woman fell to the ground and started screaming at the top of her voice, attracting everyone’s attention to them.
Kathleen was sure she didn’t use any force but was surprised to see the woman fall so heavily.
She knew without being told that she had just fallen into a trap carefully crafted by the woman.
Taking advantage of the crowd that had gathered, the woman cried, "Everyone come and see how this woman is bullying a defenseless elder."
Seeing the seemingly weak woman on the floor, and Kathleen’s height of 5’7" which was already imposing, made it look as if she was the one bullying the woman, so the woman was able to successfully sway the people’s opinion in her favour.
As expected, they started passing their judgment blindly.
"How can she be this heartless? Bullying an elder without any form of remorse."
"I’m really surprised that someone as good looking as her will do such a thing to an elder."
"Good looking indeed," snorted another one. "I’d rather remain ugly and kind than have such a face camouflaging a twisted mind."
Another person’s voice came again, "Now I know why they say one should not judge a book by its cover."
Suddenly, someone pushed through the crowd. As soon as she saw the person on the floor, she shouted,
"Mom! What happened to you?"
Seeing her daughter finally appear, the woman broke out in loud sobs, taking her acting to a whole new level while pointing at a nonplussed Kathleen who didn’t know what to make of the hilarious woman.
"She is the one that pushed me."
Her daughter’s face shot up and when she saw that it was Kathleen, her face turned vicious.
"You?" She rushed towards Kathleen but couldn’t go any further when she saw the warning look on Kathleen’s face.
"No wonder," Kathleen smirked, her voice cold and laden with disdain.
"I was actually wondering whose mother would be so shameless to frame an innocent person without thinking twice. It turned out to be the losers from the Beazell family."
"Whose family are you referring to as losers? Linda snapped. "Don’t think because you are..."
Nobody got to hear what Linda was about to say as she was interrupted by Kathleen.
"Are you sure you want to complete what you are about to say?"
