THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 94: A Visit To Wyatt Corporations
Steffan adjusted himself forward towards the edge of the couch and stared deep into Shawn’s eyes.
"Have you considered the possibility that your wife might be friends with Director Wyatt’s daughter?"
Shawn cocked his head to the side, his chin placed between his index finger and thumb, as a line appeared in between his brow.
"Still that does not explain her constantly being in the company of President Jason and living in the same house with him."
"I heard Jason has a great relationship with his sister, ever since they reunited. So it’s only natural that he treats his sister’s friend well. He might just be watching out for her as his beloved sister’s friend, you know."
"To the extent of helping her take revenge against Hudson Group," uttered Shawn, his lips set in a grim line.
"What do you mean?"
"In case you don’t know, Hudson Group was on the verge of signing a contract with Wyatt Corporations about two months ago. Everything was ready."
"But as soon as my darling wife showed up, the signing never took place and in the blink of an eye, it was handed over to a measly Mason Group whom I don’t think has what it takes to undertake the project."
Steffan inhaled a sheep breath, his eyes widening in disbelief. This was way beyond what he imagined. "In other words, you are saying that President Jason decided to go against Hudson Group because of Kathleen?"
If not that it came from Shawn himself, he would not believe that anything like that could happen. Someone choosing Mason group over Hudson Group. "This is simply incredible."
"It appears you’re still very smart," Shawn mocked. "So you now understand the basis on which my assumptions are founded."
The office was quiet for some time, each of them engrossed in their own thoughts. After a couple of minutes, Steffan’s voice broke through the silence.
"I don’t know what to say any more. However, if I were you, I would still get my facts right instead of working based on assumptions. You could be right though, and you could also be wrong on the other hand." Steffan advised.
"I still have a hunch that you might have gotten the whole situation wrong."
Shawn also wished more than anything in the world that his fears would end up as a huge misunderstanding, but at the same time, he could not ignore the obvious staring him in the face.
"I’ve sent people to investigate but each time, I’m met with a brick wall. She has done a good job in covering her tracks well so that nothing is discovered. It’s only what she wants revealed that is seen."
"What are you actually investigating?" Steffan asked.
"Her relationship with Jason of course. I want to know if they are married or not," his greatest fear was that possibility.
Without warning, his expression turned dark, and he clenched his jaw tightly as something came to his mind.
"This reminds me of something that happened when I was with her a few weeks ago."
Steffan looked on in anticipation of what Shawn was about to say.
"I heard her talk to a child on the phone one evening. But when I asked whose child it was, she didn’t give me any definite answer. She always has a way of avoiding it."
Hearing Shawn mention a child, Steffan lowered his head in guilt and didn’t dare maintain eye contact with Shawn as he did before.
"It might be somebody else’s child," he hesitantly suggested.
"No," Shawn instantly disagreed. "I strongly believe it’s her child. I can never mistake the look in her eyes when she spoke with the child. It was both affectionate and indulging, exuding a deep maternal love that can only come from a mother."
Steffan felt terrible about keeping this important piece of information from Shawn but like he had convinced his sister in-law, he didn’t want to raise Shawn’s hope and see it crumble if they turned out not to be his children.
He could only keep Shawn in the dark until he is able to find out the truth, hence, he subtly steered the conversation from the child and back to his wife.
"If I remember correctly, you said she didn’t get to sign the divorce papers six years ago, which means she is still married to you."
After getting a nod from Shawn, Steffan continued.
"President Jason should know better than getting married to someone who is still married to another person and not legally divorced yet.
"It is bigamy and according to the laws of The United States, it is considered a criminal offense in all the fifty States."
"I think it’s high time I paid a visit to Wyatt Corporations," Shawn declared out of the blues. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
A furrow appeared on Steffan’s forehead as he asked, "What would you be doing there?"
"Since I can’t get the answers I seek indirectly, I can as well pursue it directly with whoever that is available." Shawn said, standing to his feet.
Just then a characteristic knock sounded on the door. The pattern belonged to only one person and Shawn directly called out, "Come in, Johnson."
As soon as Johnson, his assistant stepped in, Shawn asked, "What’s the update?"
"I was able to get an appointment with Director Wyatt and he wants to meet with you in an hour’s time if it’s convenient for you."
"What was their excuse for canceling the meeting with the new President?" Shawn asked, his mouth turning up in a disdainful smirk.
’The New President will not be available for some time and hasn’t been to the company recently.’ Those were the exact words of her Personal Assistant, Boss," Johnson reported.
Shawn tapped his fingers a few times on the mahogany table, "Meeting Director Wyatt is a better idea. Maybe he will help me resolve some things."
Seeing that his presence was no longer relevant, Steffan asked to be excused and left them alone in the office.
