Chapter 85: A Man’s Got To Do What A Man’s Got To Do

A few minutes later he went downstairs to the living room where everyone was already seated and said his greeting in the usual order when they were all together.

"Good morning grandpa."

"Good morning grandma."

"Good morning mummy."

After their corresponding responses, they broke into little chatters, and as expected, Eleanor was the main contributor.

Kathleen received a call and her eyes lit up at the caller ID displayed on her screen.

"Hello there, has the Indomitable President suddenly remembered his family that he left behind?" She turned on the speaker icon as she teased.

"How can you say that, Sis?" complained Jason. "You all are always on my mind. how are you doing?"

"Is that Uncle Jason?" Before Kathleen could reply, Elenor’s ecstatic voice rang out causing Kathleen to swallow the words that were on the verge of coming out from her mouth. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Yeah, you got that right." Jason’s affectionate voice responded. "How is my "Miss Universe" doing?"

"I am doing fine, Uncle. It’s just that we miss you a lot. When are you coming back?"

"Once I’m done with my work here, I will come over to see you. Is that Ok?"

"Yeah, yeah. Then finish your work early."

"I will," Jason said.

"Do you know what is happening today, Uncle Jason?" Eleanor asked.

How was Jason to know what was happening in her little life all the way in Luxembourg? He had to return back to the head office as both his parents were traveling to spend some time with their grandchildren.

"Can you please tell Uncle what is happening, my dear Miss Universe."

"My friend’s birthday is today and we will be going for her party soon," announced Eleanor, grinning from ear to ear.

"Really?" Jason asked in mock surprise. "Make sure you don’t dress too much and outshine the poor birthday girl with your stunning beauty.

Eleanor could only pick out one word from the whole advise and answered accordingly. "But Uncle Jason, Sophia is actually very rich."

"Let me tell you something Uncle Jason," her eyes shone as if she was going to let out a big secret.

"Her dad is a big shot. I heard the teachers talking about it the other day."

She paused to swallow her saliva and continued with a serious expression. "My teacher also said that a big shot is someone that has loads and loads of money and can buy anything. So you see, she is not poor at all," she concluded, satisfied with her wise analysis.

Her analysis, especially the seriousness in her tone, left everyone roaring with laughter, even Elvis was not spared as he joined in the laughter.

"Oh, I get it now. Is her father as rich as your Uncle Jason?"

"Na," refuted Eleanor instantly,

"My uncle Jason is the biggest shot," she praised. As far as she was concerned, no one can compare to her uncle and mother.

"You know me too well. I am the biggest shot among all the men and your mummy is the biggest shot among all the women, right?"

"Right," Eleanor nodded eagerly forgetting that he could not see her.

"How is Mr Genius, has he discovered anything of interest yet?"

Elvis saw this as a cue for him to finally speak with his uncle. "Hello uncle Jason. I’m doing fine."

"So Big Bros, what’s up? I hope you’ve been taking care of your mummy in my absence."

"Of course. With me here, no harm can come to her. Also grandpa and grandma came to visit and we’ve been having a wonderful time."

"That’s interesting. So what have you been doing?"

"We did some gardening and grandma taught me how to prune the flowers, Eleanor also knows how to harvest the fruits now."

"Wow! That’s great. At least you were not tied to your computer for once."

Elvis shrugged and his next words left everyone speechless. "A man’s got to do, what a man’s got to do."

"How did you come about that?" Director Wyatt asked, the creases on his forehead still visible.

"Grandpa, that’s a slang every serious minded man should know," Elvis stated matter of factly.

"So Mr man," Director Wyatt chuckled, "What is it that you’ve got to do?"

"Taking care of the ladies of course, they are the weaker vessels," Elvis replied without thinking which sent everyone into another bout of laughter.

Jason chatted some more with them and ended the call as he needed to attend to something.

Once the call ended, Stacy turned to Kathleen,

"Janice, will you be taking the children to the Rosse’s or the driver should drop them off?"

"I think the driver should drop them off. I have an appointment scheduled for this morning," Kathleen said.

"If I’m able to wrap it up on time, I’ll go pick them up, if not, only Mrs Carr will have to accompany them and keep an eye on them."

Stacy was okay with the arrangement as it wasn’t just right to send the children there by themselves, but she wasn’t still comfortable with her daughter’s current schedules.

"Don’t you think you are pushing yourself too hard, my dear?" Stacy’s voice was full of concern. She was constantly worried about her daughter that will not slow down yet will still advise others to take care of their own health.

"I’m in my prime mom, so a little jumping around every now and then will do me more good," Kathleen countered.

"You know I never miss out on spending time with the children on their weekends but for now, things are really hectic."

"But thank goodness you and dad are here to stand in for me so of course I can’t afford to waste these few days."

"That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a rest," reproved Stacy.

"You know, Grandma is right, mummy. You need to rest more," Elvis seconded.

He has seen how his mother had been running around these past few weeks with little time to rest. He was also worried that she might break down one of these days.

"I have been resting since I returned to Baltimore mom. I just got busy recently."

Kathleen was touched by their concern but couldn’t help wondering. Wasn’t this supposed to be a lovely, family breakfast time, how did it suddenly turn to a welfare session specifically for her?
