THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 84: I’m Not Interested in Knowing who you are
After getting the present for his niece, going home was completely out of the equation, so Steffan drove aimlessly for quite some time all the while reminiscing about the little boy he saw at the mall before deciding to head back to the hospital, the only safe place he could think of for now.
He had called Shawn to hang out with him on his way to the mall but that workaholic had refused, saying he had an appointment.
As punishment for refusing him he resolved to not tell Shawn about the little boy.
He was at the hospital parking lot and was about to drive to his allotted parking spot when a figure in a long flowery maxi skirt and white lace blouse appeared within his line of vision. The blouse hugged her body, outlining her perfect shape.
He wiped his eyes with the back of his hands and when he opened it again, she was still there.
She was walking in his direction and then smiled about something she probably heard from the other end of the phone.
Her smile was so dazzling that he couldn’t look away.
Everything he ever wished for was encapsulated in that single smile; it was beautiful, pure, sincere, peaceful and captivating.
The late summer evening breeze that was blowing caressed her unclamped voluminous blonde hair which seemed to be dancing in rhythm with the wind.
He didn’t know how he managed to park his car, when he left it, and how he arrived beside her.
All he knew was that he couldn’t look away from her for a minute.
When she was finally done with her call and lifted her head, his heart melted like wax before the light as soon as their eyes met.
Her purple eyes which dazzled like a rare gem seemed to cast a spell upon his heart, making it beat frantically.
"How can I help you, gentleman?" Kathleen who has been feeling a hot gaze trained on her for so long finally asked.
The man standing before her was apparently in a trance and her displeasure for being stared at for so long was perfectly conveyed by the coldness in her voice.
The sound of her voice finally brought Steffan to earth.
He realized that his heart had been given a huge shock twice in a row and that within a space of three hours. At this rate, he was not far from having a heart attack if it continued.
When he saw the impatience on the lady’s face, he somehow managed to regain his senses.
Putting on one of his best smiles which have never failed to work on countless ladies, he said,
"Hey beautiful, we meet again. What are you doing in the hospital?"
"Have we met before?" From the frown on her face, it was obvious she had no impression of the man standing before her.
"Don’t you remember me?" Steffan didn’t expect he would be forgotten so soon considering his dashing looks.
Normally, it was the ladies who would try to make him remember them, not the other way round.
Anyway, he was willing to let it go since she was such a beauty and had caught his fancy.
"We met in the hall beside the theater earlier this week. You were standing with Dr Sullivan atfter an operation, " he explained patiently.
A brooding look appeared on Kathleen’s face, then she said, casually, "Oh, it’s you?"
Just when Steffan was about to celebrate that she finally remembered him, her next words gave him no chance to do so.
"I’m sorry I have to be somewhere now," then she took a step forward.
Steffan jumped in front of Kathleen, halting her movement. "Not so fast, beautiful. You can’t leave just like that."
Kathleen was taken aback for a moment. ’What is he up to?’ Anyways, she wasn’t bothered because she had successfully dealt with similar situations in the past, and was sure that this would not be an exception.
"Why can’t I leave?" Her expression was casual, as if she was looking at a joke.
"You can’t leave because I want to get to know you."
A smug look appeared on Steffan’s face. Apart from Shawn and President Jason, there was no other man that could compare to his looks and status in Baltimore.
"Sorry, I’m not interested in knowing who you are."
That was a huge blow to his ego, but he pretended not to care. "Maybe that was too direct. Can I have your contact details?"
She stared at him for a very long time as if she wanted to see the depth of his soul. With such an intimidating stare, Steffan couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable.
He suddenly had a haunch that the lady before him was an unattainable object that could only be seen, even admired but not touched.
"I don’t give my contact to just anybody," she finally said. "Is there anything else?"
Steffan, who had clearly lost his previous confidence but still managed to remain calm on the surface, requested, "Can I have a name at least?,
"No," came Kathleen’s terse reply and she strode off to where her car was parked.

The next day, Eleanor was the first person to wake up in the morning, unlike before when she would need Mrs Carr to make five consecutive visits to her room before she would wake up.
After taking her bath and still didn’t see any sign of Elvis, she went to his room and found out he wasn’t ready to part with the dream world yet.
"How can you still be asleep by this time of the day. Wake up and get ready."
Elvis yawned and stretched his limbs, his blonde hair had been restyled into a hilarious Mohawk during his twists and turns while he slept and they now stood straight like that of Peter Pan.
Eleanor couldn’t hold back her laughter as she saw Elvis looking so hilarious which earned her a scowl from her brother.
Elvis ignored her and went to freshen up. He was very meticulous about his looks and hated being seen this way in this morning.
