THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 81: Striking Resemblance
Steffan felt something hit his waist and looked down to discover that he had almost pushed down a little boy.
Afraid the impact will be too painful he bent down. "Are you alright? "
"I’m sorry, good Sir. I wasn’t paying attention just now."
They both spoke at the same time. Steffan’s voice was laden with concern as he checked the boy, while Elvis’ voice conveyed his sincerity.
"I’m alright. I wasn’t paying attention just now." Elvis responded to Steffan’s question.
"That’s fine, as long as you are OK." Steffan sighed in relief.
"I have to get going." Elvis said and continued to where he had left Eleanor and the rest.
’What a well mannered, cute little boy,’ Steffan smiled warmly, his thoughts running wild.
When Elvis got to the section where dolls were displayed, he didn’t see the people he was looking for. Even his grandma was nowhere to be found.
A frown appeared on his face as his eyes darted all over the place. "Where could they have gone?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"I’m sure Eleanor has not made up her mind yet and dragged them somewhere else to find what she wanted. I wonder what is so difficult in picking a gift"
He went round to the next aisle with the hope of seeing them but instead of the people he was seeking, he heard a voice behind him.
"Hey, little man, why are you wandering alone in the mall? Where are your parents?"
Elvis’ face darkened, ’who is it that has formed an alliance with Aunt Cheryl in this vast mall?’
Turning to the source of the voice, Elvis realized it was the man he had bumped into a few minutes ago. It seemed I was too nice to him earlier on. "Mind your own business. I am not a little man."
Steffan was speechless. ’Woah! What’s with the attitude?’ He had been deeply impressed with him a while back and even wished to have a son like him in the future when he finally settles down. ’Why is he so uptight all of a sudden?’
He couldn’t help but feel slightly familiar with the little boy’s temper when he was angry. He jogged his memory for a name but none was forthcoming.
"Hey, take it easy kid. I was only concerned, given that you don’t seem to have a grownup with you."
Elvis lifted his head again, his eyes staring coldly at Steffan. "I am not lost." How dare he insinuate that he was lost. That saw an insult on his intelligence. If he was actually lost, he knew best what to do to find his family.
"But you ..." Steffan tried to explain but trailed off after his eyes settled on Elvis’ face.
That piercing blue eyes and the expression on the face instantly jogged his memory and his mouth slacked in shock.
"Who are you?"
"Elvis’s little nose turned up in a sneer. "Are you asking that as my father or mother? I am under no obligation to reveal my identity to a complete stranger."
With a snort, he turned away and continued in his search for his family.
Steffan: "...."
He hadn’t paid attention to his face during their first encounter and only admired his behavior but facing his fierce temper which was exactly like Shawn’s whenever he was angry, left no room for guesses. Even their aura and the way they carried themselves were exactly the same.
"Wait." Steffan tried to stop him but Elvis paid no further heed to the annoying man.
Steffan stood transfixed and couldn’t digest all that had been shoved down his throat.
’How can there be such a striking resemblance? But Shawn never mentioned anything about having a child.’
His train of thoughts was disrupted by a chubby dark haired woman who was pushing a fully packed trolley towards the checkout counter but couldn’t pass because he was blocking the way.
"Make way please," she said when she saw that he made no attempt to move aside.
"I’m sorry," Steffan muttered, a pronounced frown still etched on his handsome face.
"That child’s mother must be somewhere if I’m not mistaken. Should I follow him to know who his mother is?"
"Or should I give Shawn a call." He dipped his hands in his pocket, but changed his mind almost immediately and withdrew an empty hand from his pocket.
He shook his head. "I had better be sure first before informing him. Who knows how that nutcase will react."
Having made up his mind on what to do, he took the direction he had seen the little boy go.
Elvis was still searching for his grandma when he noticed the weird man again.
It seems he was deliberately following him. In order to confirm his suspicion, he slipped to the next aisle where children’s bicycles were displayed and ducked behind a huge trolley just at the end of the bicycle.
Due to his height, he was perfectly concealed and could see others from his position but others couldn’t see him, except they were coming from behind.
He saw a little girl in ponytail standing beside a pink bicycle with her mother. She pointed at him and before she could tell her mom about him, he gave her one of his disarming smiles and hushed her with a finger on his lips.
The girl grinned in understanding and occasionally would take a peek at him.
A minute or so later he saw a long leg and the beige trousers he had grown quite familiar with since bumping into the man.
His eyes traveled up the length of the trouser to see the owner’s eyes wandering about the section.
Luckily his clothes today were a black and green checkered shirt on army green denim trousers which blended perfectly well with the green trolley he crouched behind.
After a few seconds the man moved away, probably to look for him somewhere else.
He waited another five minutes to be sure the man was not lurking around before coming out.
He mouthed a "thank you" to the girl as he dashed away.
