Chapter 79: Mission Impossible

Eleanor pursed her lips and cocked her head to the side, a frown appearing on her face.

Cheryl couldn’t help laughing at Eleanor’s thoughtful expression.

"I brought you a beautiful gift and I’m sure you will love it!"

"Really? But I can’t see the gift," Eleanor said, darting her eyes everywhere.

"My driver will..," she trailed off as she saw Elvis standing aside like a mini grownup.

"Little man, is that you?" She deliberately creased her brow and moved her head from side to side as she scrutinized Elvis.

"Why does it look as if you have grown taller than the last time I saw you?"

"Of course I’ve grown," Elvis sneered. "And I’m not a little man."

Apart from being a drama queen, the other thing he didn’t like about his uncle’s girlfriend was that she was always looking down on him, calling him "little man" all the time.

Just then, Stacy descended the stairs and Cheryl’s eyes widened in shock.

She loked stunningly elegant in her white cotton shirtdress with a wide, cognac crocodile belt.

From her tall slender frame, one wouldn’t be wrong in assuming she might have been a model when she was much younger.

Cheryl gently set Eleanor down and went over to pay her respects to her future mother in-law.

"Good morning Aunt. I didn’t know you were around."

Stacy’s mouth curved in a soft smile. "Welcome my dear. We came to spend some time with the children."

Cheryl good naturedly offered her arm as Stacy descended the last two steps.

Taking her seat elegantly, Stacy asked. "How are you doing?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"I am doing great, Aunt and how have you been?"

She smacked her forehead as soon as the question came out of her mouth. "Na, quite silly of me to ask. You are looking as radiant and gorgeous as ever."

Stacy was very satisfied with this soon to be daughter in-law of hers.

Not only was she beautiful, she was well bred and such fun to be with. She could relate with just anybody. ’No wonder my son loves her so much.’

"How are your parents? Have you heard from them lately?"

"My parents are fine, although they are not in the country at present."

"That’s true, I saw some pictures of your mother’s tour on instagram the other day. She’s sure having a nice time traveling around the world."

"Auntie, where’s Janice?" Cheryl deftly changed the subject. She didn’t like talking about her parents.

They were always going on one vacation or the other since Cheryl and her brother came of age and could handle the family business.

Sometimes they would be gone for months leaving just her and her brother to take care of business. She was even tempted to forget that they have parents.

"Janice went out for some business, my dear. You know how she is." Stacy complained, however, her eyes held an affectionate look.

"Miss workaholic," Cheryl stated, rolling her eyes. "I wonder when she will ever take out time to rest."

"I wonder why I have to deal with weird personalities all year round. On one hand are my parents and on the other hand, my very busy friend. The only rational person among them is you, my dearest Aunt."

"Thank goodness you came around to check on us."

She went down on her knees beside Stacy and pleaded, "Aunt you have to talk some sense into her."

At Cheryl’s words, Stacy couldn’t help but dissolve into a wave of laughter.

Elvis shook his head at Cheryl. ’No wonder my mom always calls her a drama queen.’

All of a sudden, he felt pity for his poor uncle who will be saddled with her drama for the rest of his life.

His eyes took in Eleanor’s grinning face and he suddenly made up his mind about something. ’I will have to reduce Aunt Cheryl’s Interactions with Eleanor from now on so that she doesn’t turn out worse.’

But somewhere in his subconscious, he knew that was already tagged "Mission impossible."

Stacy wiped her eyes after a good round of hearty laughter, her cheeks flushed from the effort and she let out a contented sigh.

"I think Janice will listen to you more," she said, unaware of the complicated thoughts going on in her little grandson’s mind.

"You think so?" Cheryl asked, seemingly unaware of the ruckus she had caused by her performance.

"She never takes me seriously but I will try. The only person she listens to is her brother."

"I guess we have no other choice but to enlist Jason’s help then," Stacy suggested.

"That reminds me, how are things going between you two? When are you guys planning to tie the knots? You know, I want to have a fuller house with more grandchildren to cuddle."

"Auntie!" Cheryl blushed a deep red, not daring to lift her head, and turned her face away.

"Yes, Aunt Cheryl, I also need a younger sister that I can play with." With a serious expression, Eleanor added fuel to the fire.

She had long been tired of being referred to as the youngest and was waiting for an opportunity to be an elder sister. Now an opportunity to make her demands arrived and she wouldn’t waste it for anything in the world.

Stacy, "..."

Elvis, "..."

"Jason has been very busy lately, Aunt."

But after a brief moment of shyness, Cheryl put on her whole court regalia.

"Moreover, Eleanor and Elvis are already a handful. They still need tender loving care. A new addition to the family will cause divided attention. So let’s concentrate on loving just them for now."

Who was Cheryl? She was a renowned lawyer in Baltimore, who has never lost a case. With her glib tongue she can convince even the hardest criminal to do charity work for an entire year.

Even Eleanor, who was supposedly in dire need of a little sister, seemed to agree with her point.

If another sister comes along, her grandparents, not to talk of her best Uncle Jason’s affection will be shared with that new family member. ’Maybe I’m not ready for a younger sister yet,’ she concluded.
