THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 78: Silly Little Sister
With a deadpan expression, giving nothing away, Elvis crossed his hands behind his straight back as his two little short legs tooked determined steps towards the garden.
This time, he needed to teach his silly sister a lesson so that next time he will not unknowingly help her count the money after she has sold him off.
Eleanor followed closely behind with a sulky expression. She knew she went too far this time, but she didn’t expect to be found out so soon.
Now, her brother was really mad at her. If there was anything Eleanor was scared of, it was losing her brother’s affection.
It’s true they always bicker and argue over things but he will always easily let go and they would reconcile the next minute. She couldn’t recall the last time she had seen him this angry at her.
Stacy noticed that something was off with the children after they came back.
She approached Eleanor, "What is going on? Did you two fight again?"
Unlike before that she would be the first to complain, Eleanor was too ashamed to say anything this time.
"This is kinda serious," Stacy sighed.
She turned to Elvis but met a brick wall and knew she wouldn’t be able to pry anything out of his mouth.
Stacy often wondered how at such a young age he managed to be this imposing. If not that she was his grandmother, she would have been intimidated by his aura so many times.
She dropped the watering can she was holding and went to sit with them on the bench under the small almond tree in the garden.
"My princess, please can you tell me what happened?"
Eleanor’s head dropped down as she spoke.
"I made brother angry."
"How exactly did you make him angry?" Stacy’s voice was soft and gentle, eliciting the desired response.
"I... I... told my friend in school that I would convince brother to come to her party,"
"Uh-hmmm," Stacy urged her on, knowing that alone was not enough to cause such a huge quarrel between them.
"I asked her to... to... give... me something in exchange." The tears that had pooled up in Eleanor’s eyes streaked down her cheeks and she broke out in a loud sob.
"Hey, baby," Stacy gathered her in her arms and allowed her to cry some more. After Eleanor calmed down, she pulled away and gently lifted Eleanor’s chin to look at her.
She stared into Eleanor’s teary eyes.
"Do you think what you did was right or wrong?" The gaze from Stacy’s purple eyes was deep and penetrating, giving no room for falsehood.
"I was wrong, Grandma," Eleanor admitted meekly.
Stacy nodded in satisfaction. "It’s good you know that. And what are you supposed to do?"
"I apologized to brother, but he would not forgive me." Eleanor replied in a shaky voice
Stacy glanced at Elvis, whose eyes suddenly darted around aimlessly, his eyebrows were drawn together and his mouth turned downwards. It was obvious he was struggling within himself.
Stacy’s gaze returned back to Eleanor.
"Eleanor, as long as you are sincere in your apology, your brother will forgive you." Stacy gave her an encouraging smile and nodded slightly in Elvis’s direction.
Eleanor knew exactly what she had to do. "I’m sorry brother. I promise it won’t happen again."
Seeing how pitiful and sincere Eleanor looked, Elvis’s heart melted inexplicably and the temporary wall he had built in his heart collapsed completely.
"I forgive you." Although his voice still sounded cold, his doting eyes gave out his true emotions.
Eleanor’s lashes swept up and she blinked, a ghost of a smile flickered across her face.
"Really?"
"Really."
She dashed forward to hug him. "You are the best big brother ever. I love you brother."
Stacy looked on, her content smile exuding peace. What more can one ask for in this life other than what God had graciously bestowed on her: a happy family.
"Go and clean up, I’ll take you both shopping for your friend’s birthday gift.
"Yeeeee, we are going shopping,"Eleanor shrieked in excitement.
But her celebration was cruelly interrupted when she remembered what caused the quarrel in the first place. "But brother said..."
Elvis cut in before she could finish speaking.
"Of course I will go with you," he declared which caused Eleanor’s radiant smile to burst forth.
But his next statement spoiled everything.
"I know all those boys from school will be there, so I have to look out for my silly little sister."
"El...vis!" Eleanor yelled and chased Elvis all around the garden, her gaily laughter rang out and the jovial atmosphere returned to the garden.
Stacy expelled her breath in a whoosh. "It’s not easy meditating between those two. Thank goodness it is over."
Her affectionate gaze followed them across the garden as she packed up their gardening tools and stowed them away safely in the garden house.
By midday, Eleanor and Elvis were ready. They were waiting for their grandmother in the living room when the doorbell suddenly rang.
"Could that be mom?" Eleanor asked.
"Mom wouldn’t need to ring the bell if she’s the one. It may be someone else," Elvis analyzed.
Although the Villa was safely secured, they had been instructed not to open the door for anyone randomly, so Elvis called out to Mrs Carr.
"Mrs Carr, someone is at the door."
"I’ll check it right away," came Mrs Carr’s voice.
They didn’t need to wait for long as Elvis’ analysis turned out to be true. The next moment, a cheery voice announced the arrival of an "August visitor."
"Hey everyone, did you miss me?"
"Aunty Cheryl?" Screamed Eleanor who had followed Mrs Carr to the door.
"Isn’t that my Cutie Pie?" Cheryl bent down and scooped up Eleanor, the head of PR.
She was always the first to launch out anytime someone she loves and haven’t seen for a long time shows up.
Eleanor flung her arms around Cheryl’s neck.
"Where have you been all these while?"
"I went on a Business trip and guess what?" A mysterious glint danced in Cheryl’s eyes.
