THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 72: You Need To Get Your Act Together Shawn.
He couldn’t help but wonder about the effect the young Madam had on his boss.
He had seen how the young Madam ignored his boss’s call some minutes back at the airport and even left without turning back.
She is the only person in the whole of Baltimore who can get away with pulling such a stunt on the boss, who happened to be one of the few most powerful and respected presidents in Baltimore. He was feared by many and no one dared to offend him consciously or unconsciously.
Although his boss is usually cold and appeared unapproachable, he was actually a good boss that cared for his employees.
He remembered when his only son was diagnosed with leukemia and they needed a bone marrow transplant. When he couldn’t get a match from other family members, he was devastated and also fell sick himself.
When his boss heard about it, he spared no resources to ensure they got a perfect match and his son’s life was eventually saved.
He wished they would resolve whatever issues they have between them in the shortest possible time.
He checked again and saw that the boss was a bit stable. Luckily Doctor Steffan came along, if not he didn’t know what he would have done faced with such a situation.
"You need to get your act together Shawn. How long are you going to continue like this?" Steffan scolded. However, it sounded more like a concern query rather than a rebuke.
Steffan studied his friend and wondered what was going on in his mind at the moment.
He had caught snippets of the conversation Shawn had with his assistant over the phone and from the little he gathered, he knew his emotion was going to be triggered again.
The moment he sensed a change in Shawn’s breathing, he knew a crisis was inevitable and reached out for the pill.
After the last episode, he had instructed Johnson to always have a box ready in all the cars in case there was an emergency like today.
After taking the pill, Shawn rested his head on the car headrest, his eyes were closed, as his breathing gradually returned to normal.
When Steffan saw the way Shawn was looking so helpless, his previous anger towards him was forgotten.
"Should we still continue to Hudson manor or your apartment?"
"Hudson Manor," Shawn replied with eyes still closed and without any emotion in his voice.
Until they got to Hudson Manor, there was complete silence in the car, no one spoke except for the occasional sounds from their phones announcing a new message.
By the time they got to Hudson Manor, some colour had returned to Shawn’s face and he stepped out of the car and headed straight to his grandmother’s wing of the manor.
He was greeted enthusiastically by the few people he met as they believed he would be in a good mood when he gets to know about the improvement in his grandmother’s health.
His only response to them however was a curt nod and nothing else.
He entered the room without making a sound and met one of the nurses adjusting his grandmother’s head on the pillow.
He stood there watching his grandmother sleep.
His arms were folded across his chest with an unfathomable expression on his face.
The nurse was startled when she turned around and saw that she wasn’t alone in the room. But quickly suppressed the scream that was about escaping her lips when she saw who came in.
"Good day, Sir." She fidgeted and adjusted her dress. A blush was already spreading on her face as she unconsciously twirled a lock of hair on her fingers.
’What a rare privilege to interact with President Shawn at close range. Only the sight of him and my heart is about to burst out of my chest. Someone should please help me before I pass out.’
She had met President Shawn, the heartthrob of countless ladies in Baltimore only twice in the hospital. But since she started working here at the Hudson manor she sees him every day and has always looked forward to his visits. Although they were very brief, he was sure to check on his grandmother at least once a day.
Like he did for others, a cold grunt was the only sound she got as a response from him.
"Dr Steffan, you are also here?"
Steffan was standing by the door, an amused smile played around his mouth as he watched the whole drama.
’If only you knew that only one woman can move the heart of this man, you would not be wasting your precious time and talent on him.’
’Anyways, it’s none of my business. Experience, they say, is the best teacher.’
He strolled into the room and asked, "How is she doing?"
The previous shy look on the nurse’s face was immediately replaced with that of excitement.
"After the awesome doctor treated her this morning, she has greatly improved. In Fact, she moved her body barely an hour after the treatment."
"That doctor is so awesome. I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw today." The nurse’s eyes shone bright as she recalled the event of this morning.
"Did Nana really move?" Shawn finally spoke since he entered.
"Of course Sir. Not only I, but everyone of us saw it with our own eyes. It was a miracle."
Her excitement knew no bounds. Not only did she see President Hudson today, but she is also having a conversation with him.
And the news she gave has made him happy seeing the way he was now looking, , compared to other times when he came around and his expression when he just arrived a few minutes ago.
As if on cue, a faint sound came from the direction of the bed and they all turned in sync.
Before you could say Jack, Shawn was already by the bedside.
Right before his eyes, his Nana whose eyes he hasn’t seen open for over a month now, flickered a few times before opening.
