Chapter 69: You Have Twenty Minutes To Get Me Kathleen’s Location

The demeanor around him as he attended to all his engagements today was still baffling his subordinates as they have never seen him this approachable in years.

Even the board meeting ended on a good note to the relief of everyone.

’To think that all my effort went in vain.’ His eyes filled with sadness at the memory.

Johnson stood by the side, watching warily. He didn’t know what to make of his boss’s emotions and only prayed silently that he will not sink back to his previous state that will require him to take the pills again.

His mood has been quite stable recently which was good for everyone especially himself who is constantly with him.

Shawn’s head shot up from the desk and his cold blue eyes rested on Johnson as if he had just landed a prey.

"Are you going to stand there all day?"

Johnson collected himself before responding. "What are your orders sir?"

"You have twenty minutes to get me Kathleen’s location," Shawn barked an order and his head returned back to the previous posture of staring down at the table as if he wasn’t the one that just spoke.

Poor Mr Johnson, he could only bemoan his pitiful fate inwardly.

"Right away Sir." He hurried off to escape the cold air in the office and narrowly missed a head-on collision with Dr Steffan who had just opened the door and was entering the office.

He bowed curtly to him and asked to be excused before continuing out.

As he passed the secretary’s desk, he remembered the things Shawn swept to the floor.

"Get someone to clear the mess in the President’s office."

Steffan closed the door behind him and started complaining as he approached the large Mahogany table in the office.

"I still can’t believe you had a meeting with Dr Janice without telling me even after knowing I’ve been dying to see her all my life."

The one sitting behind the table did not even raise his head.

When he saw that the "attack" approach wasn’t working, he reverted to apologizing.

"Well, sorry I’m late, something came up at the hospital that delayed me a bit." Still no reply.

He stared at Shawn’s head bowed on the table. "It’s almost time for the treatment and you’re still seated? Let’s get going, man."

He was going to help himself to a seat when he saw the mess on the floor and knew his friend was in one of his foul moods again. "What’s up, guy?"

Shawn finally raised his head and threw him a look that would have caused any normal person to cower in fear, but Steffan has been his friend for years and was no longer intimidated by those looks.

Steffan opened his arms in defense. "What did I do this time? I hope it’s not because I’m a bit late?"

"You’re damn right. You’re late. Because the treatment ended over three hours ago."

Steffan’s eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Wait, what do you mean by the treatment is over. This is just..." he glanced at his wrist watch, "fifteen minutes to the agreed time."

Shawn snared. "Let’s say she left before you came."

"Why would she even think of doing such a thing?" He wasn’t buying any of these.

"As the attending doctor to the patient I’m meant to be there to see what is happening with my patient. And on two occasions now, I wasn’t there. I feel like I’ve been cuckolded," he protested, trying to make sense of the injustice.

Shawn raised an eyebrow. Why does it look as if Steffan was way angrier than him?

"You know her identity is not what everyone is privy to," Shawn reminded.

"Wuh...wuh...wuh.. wuh... wait. Do you mean..."

Shawn had a mischievous grin as he nodded. "Uh-huh, she doesn’t want you to meet her, that is why."

"You can’t be serious. If she doesn’t want to meet me, why would she meet you then?"

Shawn laughed besides himself. "Silly, it’s because I’m the patient’s closest relative."

Steffan scrutinized Shawn’s face for signs that he was joking with him, but found none. Then it suddenly dawned on him.

"Does she need to be that secretive?"

Shawn didn’t respond, but his impatient eyes swung towards the door and in a cold voice, uttered a terse, "come in."

Why are there so many people knocking on my office door today? Is that secretary tired of her job?

The cleaner came in and almost shrank back at the oppressive atmosphere she just walked into."

A notification popped up on Shawn’s phone. After opening it, he stood up and picked up the suit jacket he had previously flung on the couch in a fit of rage. His long legs were almost at the door before he remembered Steffan.

"I am going out. Are you coming with me?"

Of course." He jumped up from his seat. "What will I be doing in your office when you are not there?"

In the elevator, Steffan was irked when he didn’t get any reply to all the questions he has been throwing at Shawn since they left his office.

Once they stepped out of the elevator at the ground floor, Shawn headed straight into his car where the driver was already waiting for him at the entrance of the building.

"Are you coming in my car or driving behind?"

"Isn’t it a blessing having such a considerate friend like you?" His lips curled up in a sneer. "The least you could do is tell me where we are going."

"You are asking too many questions dude. Get in the car."

The comment doubled Steffan’s irritation and a bone twitched in his jaw as he glared at Shawn.

"Just so you know, the only reason I’m following you is because I don’t want Johnson calling me to come over to take care of a certain somebody who couldn’t handle his emotions."

After driving for a while, Stefan noticed that the car had left the busy city area and was headed to the airport.
