THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 52: Please, Don’t Mess With My Brain!
"I did it myself. No one contracted me to kill you," Spider surprisingly said.
He was in a dilemma here and didn’t know what to do. He had thought about the whole thing. ’If I expose that witch now, I’m hundred percent positive she wouldn’t think twice about dumping the whole thing on me and finding a way out for herself.
Then, I will never get to know what happened that year. Until I get her to reveal all that she knows, I can’t give up but I have to persevere till I get a good result, but for how long, is what I can’t predict.’
’There is also a likelihood that they might not do anything to me until they get the answer they seek, I have to stall for time before planning my escape.’
"Is that so?" Kathleen wrote, oblivious of Spider’s train of thoughts. "It so happens that you suddenly relapsed and need an urgent operation. I’ll ask the doctor and nurses to get you ready for an emergency brain surgery."
She dropped the sheet of paper and walked away as if she was prescribing medication for headache.
"Hey! You can’t do that to me." Spider screamed as soon as he read what was on the paper. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
She stopped and turned around to look at Spider’s bewildered face. The look in her eyes read; "we’ll see about that," then she finally turned on her heels and sauntered out of the room, not even bothering to close the door behind her.
Spider pushed his bed cover off and wanted to rush over to stop her from leaving but felt a sharp pain on his back and fell back on the bed. With the fall, he felt a bout of dizziness coming, and held his head, "no not now, I... can’t... black out... now..." he groaned before he was engulfed in a thick cloud of darkness.
He woke up some minutes later and was startled to see a pair of eyes frowning at him through a pair of thick rimmed glasses.
He suddenly remembered Kathleen’s words before he had fallen unconscious and gasped, holding on to his head.
’Has she performed the OP on me like she threatened? Oh my God! what would happen to me now. Am I gonna go crazy, maybe I’m an imbecile now.’ He was freaking out and no one bothered to educate him otherwise.
He looked around and saw from the clock on the wall that he had been out for about ten minutes. ’Ten minutes? There was no way they would been able to carry out an operation in ten minutes; that can only happen in fairy tales.
Does it mean she didn’t perform the OP? Because if they did, he’d be receiving an IV drip by now.
With that understanding, he became more confident and felt his head, indeed no bandages were wrapped around it. He looked around and to his greatest relief found out that he was still on his bed and in the ward.
"Thank goodness! He breathed out deeply, a gust of air escaping through his mouth. ’I knew she was no doctor and was just bluffing,’ he chuckled to himself.
Unfortunately, his celebration had the lifespan of a snowball subjected to a scorching summer heat,
it ended right after it started, as the next minute, Kathleen walked in and said something to the guy with the thick rimmed glasses, afterwards she handed Spider a sheet of paper.
"They’re here to prepare you for the operation. Any last words before you finally go insane for the rest of your life?"
She had a menacing look as she handed him the paper. It was even difficult to breathe from the oppressive aura emanating from her.
Each breath he took appeared to be his very last. He has never been this scared and at the same time helpless in his whole life of living as an outlaw. He knew without a doubt she wasn’t joking this time and would carry through with her threat.
"I’ll talk. Please don’t mess with my brain. I beg of you."
His two hands were clasped in front of his face as thick beads of sweat appeared on his face and dripped down his body.
"Too late," wrote Kathleen. "I’m no longer interested in who sent you as I already have a rough idea. But what I don’t understand is why you are bent on protecting whoever sent you at the expense of your own life. It may also interest you to know that your colleague is no more."
Thinking Kathleen has decided to spare him after his plea, he quickly grabbed the paper from her as soon as she stretched it out to give it to him.
Blood drained from his face and was instantly covered with undisguised dismay, after reading the last sentence.
"Drake is dead? You killed him?" he whispered, his voice wobbly and collapsed back onto his bed, with just five words replaying and echoing in his brain.. "Your colleague is no more!"
Drake was the only friend he has ever had. No, he wasn’t just a friend, their relationship was way more than friendship; he was the only family he had. He blinked away the tears that welled up in his eyes as a muscle in his jaw twitched.
His eyes were filled with sadness at the memory of Drake and how they met in the farming settlement where he was living with his family.
He had again broken one of the rules of not eating until you were done with all the chores you had to do for the day, including clearing the barn and feeding the sheep.
The sun that particular day was scalding hot and he was both thirsty and hungry.
When he got home after rounding the sheep to their shed, he went to the back of the house. His intention originally was to just wash his hands and drink some water to quench his thirst.
After washing his hands he was about leaving to get some water when a delicious aroma wafted to his nostrils.
