Chapter 49: My Goddess

"To Medstar hospital," Kathleen instructed the driver as soon as she got into the car.

She had received a call from the doctor while she was at the head teacher’s office. And because she was in the middle of a conversation with her, didn’t pick up. After two unanswered calls, the doctor sent her a text informing her that Spider was awake.

On her way to the hospital, she put a call through to the doctor informing him that she was on her way. It was rush hour, so the journey of about forty five minutes took them over an hour because of the traffic congestion.

They finally arrived at the hospital an hour, fifteen minutes later. They had to wait for an ambulance that was coming out of the hospital with its siren on full blast to pass through the gate before driving in.

As the driver pulled up in front of the hospital entrance, she got down.

She went straight to the doctor’s office as soon as she exited the elevator and almost bumped into a stretcher carrying a patient in the hallway.

After receiving the doctor’s response to her knock on the door, she opened the door.

On seeing that it was Kathleen at the door, the doctor stood up to welcome her with a smile on his face.

A professional smile lit up Kathleen’s already beautiful face with light makeup.

"Good morning, Doc, nice to see you this morning."

She looked refreshed and energetic this morning, contrary to the fatigue he noticed in her voice the previous night, Dr, Sullivan, the chief doctor observed. ’She must have had a good night’s rest.’

He was pleased with his decision to not allow her to come to the hospital last night. And as if in support of his decision, the suspect only woke up around 7am this morning.

"Good morning Boss," he responded to Kathleen’s greetings, with an almost shy smile.

"Boss?" Kathleen folded her hand across her chest and her pretty brows rose in inquiry.

"If you don’t mind."

At Kathleen’s silence and her still curious look, he knew she needed more explanations. "Well, you see, I’ve always seen you high up there," he gestured with his hands.

"Coupled with the ease with which you solved Old Mrs Hudson’s case, you have exceeded my imaginations. So as my idol, there is no better way to address you." His mind seemed to narrow in on some truth as his head jerked back all of a sudden.

"No, I think I should call you My Goddess. Yeah that is way better. Only a goddess can be this awesome."

Kathleen chuckled, her hands still crossed over her chest as she looked on in amusement at the over forty year old doctor who was behaving like a child.

"So, what do you think about my form of address?" He asked when he still didn’t get any response from Kathleen.

"As you wish Doc, as long as you know when not to call me that. I still prefer my identity to be kept a secret."

"Of course, I’ll be careful, Goddess." He was ecstatic and found it hard to control his excitement. "I have one more request to make," he added hesitantly.

"Shoot," replied Kathleen, not knowing what has gotten into the usually calm doctor this morning.

"Can you call me Brad, and not Doctor? Although others call me Dr Sullivan or Chief at times, I’d be most delighted if you call me Brad, as my goddess."

After considering it for some time, Kathleen gently concurred. "Brad, it is then." She was an easy going person anyway and was not particular on appendages or titles.

"Perfect!" He beamed happily like a child who has just been told by his teacher that he got a ten out of ten score in his arithmetic test.

After the pleasantries were over, he knew he had to get to the reason why she was there.

"Now let’s get down to business," he said. "The patient woke up this morning as I said in the text and has been under close observation since then."

"So how is he doing now?" Kathleen asked.

"He’s pretty much fine but has refused to say anything since he woke up."

"Are there any signs of post traumatic stress to the brain or any part of his body?"

"We did some tests and a CT scan to find out if there are any. The results will be out soon."

As if on cue, a knock sounded on the door and at his invitation, a doctor from the radiology department came in. He stopped abruptly in his tract as he saw Kathleen. He was apparently smitten by her beauty and was almost drooling.

"Ehm... ehm."

He came to his senses when he heard the sound of Dr Sullivan clearing his throat. His ears were a deep red as he shyly retracted his gaze from Kathleen to the chief and handed him an envelope on which was labeled Dr Sullivan. "Here is the test result Chief."

"Thanks. You may leave," he dismissed the doctor in a stern voice.

On a sincere note, he didn’t blame him at all, as he was also and still is, a victim of Dr Janice’s unparalleled beauty and allure, the very first time he saw her face to face.

His advantage is that he now knows her identity, while the other doctor might never get to know who she really is.

Before the doctor finally left he gazed again at Kathleen in fascination, wondering who this stunning beauty was. Although he would have loved to linger behind and take in more of her gorgeous face, he had no choice but to leave, howbeit, grudgingly.

Without opening it, Brad handed over the test result to Kathleen who had a faint smile on her face. She was used to this kind of reaction from people.

She took the letter and her eyes widened in disbelief when she read the report.

"What is the matter, Goddess?"
